It seems that the guys must be playing a trick on us with Canine Carnage, though, as I fail to see how a game with just 15 reel positions can have up to 248,832 payways? I’m looking forward to finding out what the story is on that one! The default RTP of 96.20% is all well and good, and the max win comes in at 3,000x bet.

Canine Carnage Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The title leaves little room for doubt with respect to the overarching theme of this game – it’s got to be all about dogs, doesn’t it? These are no ordinary dogs, however! In my opinion, some of these mutts look scary as hell, and what exactly are the Gerry cans for? We aren’t setting fire to the poor creatures, are we?! It’s quite surprising how few canine-themed online slots are out there; Doggy Riches Megaways springs to mind immediately, along with the excellent Disco Dawgs, but generally speaking, it feels as if man’s best friend doesn’t get anywhere near the level of respect that he deserves in this industry. Come on, slot developers, show your favourite breed some love!
The past week has seen an almighty tsunami of payway based games, and as a result, almost all of my recent slot reviews have suffered from slightly disappointing numbers on the paytable. I’m afraid that is a pattern set to continue today, as the highest-paying wild symbol will only award you 5x your total bet for each completed payway of five of a kind. The red canine (if you say so, Play’N’Go!) is the top-paying regular symbol, but I suspect the return of just 3x your bet isn’t likely to blow anybody away. The purple dog will pay you 2x for all five, whilst the blue one – complete with space suit – is worth just 1.6x for a full payway. A green dog (not the beached surfer dude… apologies if that reference confuses you, I guess I am showing my age here…) completes the picture symbol lineup, but his return of just 1.2x for five-of-a-kind is, once again, nothing worth shouting about.
The wagering options start at €0.10 and top out at €100.00 per spin; the lower end of the scale has plenty of intermediary steps, but high rollers may be a little put out by the size of the jumps once you approach the other end of the spectrum.
Base Game & Modifiers
So, we have yet another “typical” *looking* online slot here, sporting five reels and three rows, along with 243 payways, a common setup and payout mechanic that we have all played hundreds of times before. And yet, the paytable promises us that the Canine Carnage video slot can deliver 248,832 payways; what on earth gives?
Golden Bones Symbols
Every canine on the reel set will no doubt be drooling at the prospect of wrapping their mouth around a golden bone or two! Luckily for them, these symbols appear on all five reels as standard, each being tied to a payout of between 1x and 5x your bet.
Collector Symbol
Unfortunately, those golden bones are technically useless unless you also managed to catch a collector symbol on the same spin. This can be extremely frustrating if you end up with half a dozen golden bones littered all over the reels, blocking traditional line hits and yet being worth absolutely nothing to you.
If the maximum prize was a little higher than 5x your bet, I could probably forgive this mechanic, but as it stands, you’ll be lucky to receive anything above 30x your stake from the golden bones’ symbols – and that’s only on the spins where you are fortunate enough to collect them!
Splitter Wild
Ah, now this is more like it! Any wild that lands on the reels will split any paying symbols to the right of its position once the reels have stopped spinning, significantly increasing the number of active payways and thus your potential returns.
Multiplier Symbols
Just like the Golden Bones symbols, these bad boys can appear organically on the regular reel strips, of a modifier may also kick in at the end of your spin, adding several of these special symbols to the playfield.
Multiplier symbols can be worth 2x, 3x, or 5x, and any winning combinations that land on a spin featuring one or more of these multiplies the total winnings of that round by the product of all visible multiplier symbols.
Canine Carnage Slot Bonus Features
As with so many Play’N’Go online slots, the scatter Gerry can symbol will only appear on reels one, three, and five. You’ll need to hit all three of these to win yourself six “bone spins”, which come with several unique mods and features.
Free Spins
During this mode, regular symbols are removed from the reel set, leaving just the golden bones and collector symbols. Each time a golden bone lands, you will immediately collect its value – unlike during the base game – however, the total value of all golden bones is also added to a cash pot prize, which will be awarded to you each time the collector symbol lands.
At least one of the special features listed in the base game section above is active on every bone spin, but there is an additional special symbol included in this mode – the circular saw! This symbol will cut all Golden Bones on the same row in half, doubling their effective value and increasing the number of active pay ways.
Up to three circular saws (or “splitter” symbols…if you want to be boring!) can be added on every free spin.
Canine Carnage Slot Review Final Thoughts
My overwhelming opinion of this game was near entirely positive! Play’N’Go never lets me down, and this is another sure-fire game to try as soon as the developer launches it for real money play during the next week or two. Add this one to your shortlist – you won’t regret it!
