Game Overview
I believe there have been previous officially-licensed World Wrestling Entertainment online slots, but this type of game often gets pulled off the web as soon as the contract with the license owner expires; previous fans of Microgaming’s “The Dark Knight Rises” online slot still complain that they miss the game today, so it’s a huge shame that this type of thing has to happen. Hopefully, All41Studios has acquired a lengthy deal with WWE for the release, titled Clash of the Wilds, including the likeness of four of the WWE’s best-known Superstars. It’s a 40 fixed payline game with a 96.13% and a maximum win of over 10,000x your bet. Let’s dig in and see what else it has to offer!
Several free spin modes are activated depending on which reel triggers them; because of this, a stack of wilds will trigger the bonus round rather than a set of scatter symbols. The various modes include giant wilds, multipliers, nudges, sticky wilds, and a wrestling-inspired “ladder match” feature. The prices for each feature in the bonus buy facility suggest that the sticky wilds feature is slightly better than the previous three, whilst the ladder match is potentially the best of the entire bunch.
Fans of World Wrestling Entertainment probably haven’t waited until now before firing up our free demo slot of Clash of the Wilds, which is, as always, available for you to try below:
Clash Of The Wilds Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
In the opening paragraph, you’ll remember that I mentioned this game utilising the likeness of four of the WWE’s best-known Superstars. Well, that statement is true, but as I’m not much of a fan of the WWE, I hope I have managed to get these names right! I believe the four wrestlers in question are John Cena, Charlotte Flair, Roman Reigns, and Bianca Belair – if I’ve got this wrong, please feel free to email me an e-mail and berate me using the details on my about page! As far as other wrestling-inspired online slots are concerned, you can check out our Numero Uno and Beast Mode demos, but neither of those games is officially licensed, so you won’t be finding any real wrestlers in those games!
All five of the WWE Superstars have the same value on the paytable – 5x your bet for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind – so I guess this recap of the paytable is going to be quite a short one! Note that two versions of each wrestler are shown on the paytable, but you don’t need to worry about these colour variations during the base game – they are only used in specific free spin modes. The wild symbol has a premium payout at 10x the bet for a full payline, but it’s such a rare combination that it barely matters. The four lower-paying royal symbols all pay 1.25x for all five, so all things considered, you shouldn’t have too much trouble remembering how much the base game winnings are with this slot!
Betting options start at €0.20 per spin and max out at €25.00 for each round, which should be enough to satisfy all but the craziest slots fans, I would guess.
Base Game & Modifiers
Regular gameplay utilises a standard 5×3 playfield, with the usual requirement of hitting at least three matching symbols starting from the left to score yourself a win. I kept seeing three jackpot-type figures popping up on the left of the main reel set. Still, there doesn’t seem to be any explanation for these in the game’s paytable – a curious oddity, for sure, but perhaps this is something that cannot be accessed until we are allowed to play the real money version of the game.
Sadly, there are no base game modifiers, but with five different free spin modes, it is perhaps not surprising that the developers didn’t have much RTP left for any additional base game features! That being the case, let’s go straight on to check out the free spin modes, as there is a lot to discuss there.
Clash Of The Wilds Slot Bonus Features
Hitting a full stack of three wild symbols on any of the game’s five reels will trigger a different free spins feature, with some apparently being better than others. I say this because the cost of the various features differs in the bonus buy feature, suggesting that the features attached to reels four and five have a slightly larger cut of the game’s RTP than those tied to reels one through three.
Reel One – Wild Blocks Feature
Hitting the wild stack on the first reel triggers six free spins with “wild blocks”, which can appear as 2×2, 3×3, or 4×4 giant symbols appearing anywhere on the reels. The entire wild block is not guaranteed to land fully in view on every spin, and indeed, I was frustrated to catch a 4×4 block on two occasions but only have one row of it visible on the screen both times!
Reel Two – Wild Multipliers Feature
This feature seems a little tamer than the first one, as it simply guarantees that two 2x multiplier wild symbols will land on the screen for each of your six free spins. Although it sounds simple, I found that I won more from this feature than I did from the wild blocks!
This could be because landing a symbol with a golden frame in this mode will add one additional spin to your remaining counter – a feature that is not available in the first mode and that seems to trigger quite frequently, significantly extending the length of your bonus round.
Reel Three – Nudging Wilds Feature
The third free spin mode includes the ability to add an additional free spin to your counter by hitting a golden framed symbol, but the headline feature is the nudging wilds.
These special wild symbols don’t really nudge but are more of an expanding wild, as they will fill the whole reel where they land with wilds every time one appears. It is possible to hit more than one of these “nudging” wilds. Therefore it should be possible to hit a full screen of matching symbols during this feature.
Reel Four – Sticky Wilds
Once again, you will receive six free spins initially in this mode, with every wild symbol that lands on the reels becoming sticky and locking in place for the duration of the feature. You can add additional spins just like in the previous two modes by hitting symbols featuring a golden frame, but those extra spins are much more valuable in this bonus round.
Reel Five – Ladder Match Feature
Finally, the WWE inspired ladder match initially awards three free spins, and you will need to make your way through eight levels without losing all three of your lives to win the jackpot prize at the end of level eight.
The jackpot prizes, in ascending order, are as follows: 5x, 15x, 40x, 100x, 500x, 1,000x, 5,000x, and 10,000x. Even 10,000x still doesn’t account for the numbers shown to the left of the base game’s reels, but I have to say I would be more than happy to walk away with such a prize!
Bonus Buy
Provided that it is permitted within your jurisdiction, you can pay to skip directly to each of the five free spins features. The first three modes cost just 35x the regular bet to purchase, whilst the sticky wilds feature costs a little more at 40x, and the ladder match is the most expensive at 50x. Even at 50x, these prices are very low compared to those charged for the bonus buy feature in most other online slots, so there seems to be little reason not to experiment with all five options, in my opinion.
Clash Of The Wilds Slot Review Final Thoughts
The WWE license does feel a little bit underused here – there isn’t much in the way of wrestling-related content, other than the likeness of the four Superstars on the reels, but this is still a solid on-line slot with a big maximum win and that is probably the most important thing – even for slots fans who enjoy watching WWE!
