12 Trojan Mysteries Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The title sort of gives it away with this one, doesn’t it? 12 Trojan Mysteries is set in the age of the roman empire, although there is no gladiatorial combat to be seen here. It also appears you must be the one delivering the trojan horse too, as he acts as the mystery symbol and thus is friend – not foe – in this slot game. The symbols suit the theme well, and the background music features a piano-based tune that does eventually become repetitive, but I didn’t find myself reaching for the mute button at any point.
Now here is something you simply have to hear – proudly displayed at the top of the paytable is the scatter symbol, along with an explanation that three or more will award you 12 free spins. This is nice to hear, because some games only award the maximum number of spins for the maximum number of scatters. 4ThePlayer had a better idea, however – why not throw in a payout of 10,000x your stake for hitting all six scatters instead? I don’t ever recall seeing such a monster payoff just for hitting all the scatters. Kind of makes Dead or Alive with its 2,500x payout seem quaint, doesn’t it? We’d advise just chucking in one or two spins at that kind of level occasionally, however; there can’t be many people with the bankroll to sustain that kind of betting level on an ultra-volatile slot like this for long.
Base Game & Modifiers
We certainly wouldn’t call the base game dull, even though the mystery symbol is the only mod to speak of. There’s the typical “heart-stopper” effect when you hit two scatters, but thankfully 4ThePlayer has made the transition quick – none of the reels slowing down to a snails pace nonsense only for the feature not to land kind of business happens here.
Mystery Symbol Feature
Occasionally, this feature can be a little frustrating – we saw the mystery symbol land multiple times when it could potentially have delivered us a huge win. When this happened, rather than convert straight into an alternative symbol, the trojan horse will cycle through the various options for a moment or two instead. When it picks the wrong one, you will undoubtedly be cursing it. On one occasion, we had a slew of horses on reels one to three, and princess symbols on reels four to six. We’ll spare you the rest of our nightmares.
To be fair though, it can also play another trick when you have many horses on the first few reels – it will pick a high paying symbol that you don’t have on screen and award a better win than could have been possible with anything that matched later reels. Overall, the feature feels reasonably balanced.

Ah, let’s talk about the all-important bonus round… that’s what we all want, right? It’s the only real bonus in the game after all, and whilst you could theoretically hit a full screen of the princess symbols during the base game, you are much more likely to see it happen here. Why? Read on.
During the free spins feature, a “mystery meter” will randomly select the symbol for all trojan horses to be transformed into. There are many more trojan horses on the reels during free spins, so this can be particularly important.
At the start of the feature, all twelve possible symbols appear on the mystery meter. After each free spin you play, the lowest paying symbol on the left of the meter will be removed. By the time you are halfway through, only the picture symbols and wild will remain. This is assuming you haven’t caught any additional scatters – these will add extra spins to your remaining counter, meaning the late stages of the bonus will be extended.

Ah… I feel torn. This isn’t 4ThePlayer’s best effort, that’s for certain – but the top payout is just enormous, and that is something which can never be easily ignored.
