If you have a phobia of clowns, like I know many people do, you should look away now as I’m reviewing Play’n Go’s 3 Clown Monty II, which is obviously a slot themed on a bunch of creepy-looking clowns. Just as obvious is the fact this is a sequel – the number at the end of the slot’s title should tell you that. We reviewed the original 3 Clown Monty and gave it an excellent score, so it will be interesting to see if this 5-reel sequel goes down quite as well. Off the bat, there are some telling differences. While both offer 5 reels and 3 rows, the second instalment has 20 paylines compared to the 10 on the original. The RTPs are almost identical, although the follow-up game edges out the previous 96.23% with 96.26%. Somewhat confusingly, Play’n Go has halved the original 20,000x max win down to 10,000x for 3 Clown Monty II.
As for the features, these have been revamped, which is nice, as I’m not a fan of sequels that are the same as the original, aside from a tweak here or there. Wild multipliers play a part again, and during the base game, these can multiply wins by up to 5x the stake. Landing these during the free spins bonus and wilds can reward up to 500x, far more than the 25x on the first slot. The free spins bonus also features guaranteed walking wilds, which can also have multiplier values, and these will walk one position on each spin. Another new addition is the Bonus Prize Pick feature that can trigger in either game mode to deliver instant multiplier wins of up to 500x.

It’s surprising how few clown themed online slots there are. As we get to the symbols on 3 Clown Monty II, many original symbols have returned, including the three different coloured laughing clowns. The smaller payouts will come with the generic low-paying playing card symbols, with the Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and Ten paying 5x, 3x, 2.5x, 2x, and 1x for a winning combo of five. Before I get into anything else, I have to point out just how great the 3 Clown Monty II slot looks. The graphics and animations are pretty fudging good. Looks mean nothing, however, unless they prove the icing on the cake. Are they the cherry on the top? I think so, as 3 Clown Monty II offers plenty of differences compared to the original, and while I’m dumbfounded Play’n Go has halved the max win down to 10,000x, I have to admit this is still a great slot and one I'll continue to play.
