Game Overview

The Aztecs used to be the trendy ancient civilisation to base your new online slot around, but those days are long gone! Today, it’s the Inca who are in the spotlight – we’ve already seen games from Pragmatic Play and Play’N’Go with an Inca theme, and today it’s the turn of Foxium with their new 4 Masks of Inca online slot. The game boasts an attractive maximum jackpot of 20,000x the total bet – far above the current industry average – whilst the RTP can range between 96.20% and 96.35%, depending on the game mode used. The payout configuration looks to be the only relatively average aspect of the specification of this machine – it’s a standard five-by-three reel setup with 20 fixed paylines,

Moving on to the feature set, Foxium has included four coloured Inca Battle Tokens in the base game. The battle tokens sometimes appear as overlays on top of the game’s high-paying symbols; when they do, the game will collect them in a token spinner for future use. Collecting three tokens of a single colour will start the Inca Battle feature, which awards five free spins with new instant prize symbols. Bonus scatter symbols appear on reels one, three, and five only, and hitting all of these will begin a three-spin feature with sticky wild symbols – more on that one later! Both bonus bet and bonus buy facilities are included for those who are fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of them.

Who do you believe are the cool kids? So, the Aztecs or the Inca? Perhaps they should have a battle and sort it out once and for all? I suspect we might be waiting a while to see that particular event – why not give our free demo slot of 4 Masks of Inca a few spins in the meantime?

4 Masks Of Inca Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

As far as the raw numbers are concerned, Aztec-themed slots are still much more numerous than their Inca-themed counterparts. The Inca are catching up quickly, however, most recently with the release of Play’N’Go’s excellent Legacy of Inca online slot. It would probably be wrong to discuss the Inca and the Aztecs without mentioning another famous South American ancient civilisation too; any ideas? Of course, I’m talking about the Mayans! They have also featured in a large number of online slots – my personal favourite is undoubtedly Hacksaw Gaming’s Mayan Stackways, which is a must-play machine for anybody who has yet to try it! All of this presents some tough competition for Foxium’s new game – so how does it hold up?

Let’s start by investigating the game’s paytable, which is headed up by the rather scary-looking Black Panther mask symbol! These symbols act as the wilds in this game and will pay you 25x the total bet whenever five appear in sequence on a payline. There are four more high-paying symbols – the red and purple masks are both worth 10x the total bet for a five-of-a-kind combination, whilst the blue and green masks are a little less valuable at 7.5x each. The majority of the paytable is made up of lower-paying royals – there are six of these, which does feel a little bit excessive considering that there are only four high-paying symbols! Five aces or kings are each worth 3.75x the current stake, whilst the queens drop this to 2.5x for all five symbols. Beyond this, the jacks, tens, and nines are worth 2x, 1.5x, or 1.25x the total bet, respectively, for a five-of-a-kind combination.

The betting range available in 4 Masks of Inca is relatively limited, with minimum/maximum limits of just €0.20 and €12.00 per spin, respectively. On the other hand, there are plenty of options between these two extremes, so the majority of players ought to have little trouble finding a suitable bet.

Base Game & Modifiers

4 Masks Of Inca Slot Base Game

Foxium’s 4 Masks of Inca is a five-reel, three-row video slot that includes 20 fixed paylines. Regular line wins always begin with the leftmost reel and require at least three matching symbols on adjacent reels to award a win. The reels also include several special symbols which do not have prizes attached to them and are instead used to invoke the game’s many features:

Inca Battle & Battle Tokens

Four Inca Battle Token colours are included in the base game – red, purple, blue, and green. The four tokens are all functionally identical, but it is necessary to collect three of all colours before you can make use of them. The battle tokens are stored per bet amount, meaning that changing the size of your bet will cause your tokens to disappear – don’t worry though, you can always resume playing at the previous bet size at a later date, and your tokens will still be there.

After collecting all of the tokens, five free spins will be awarded. In this mode, the reels contain instant-pay mask symbols, each of which awards between 10x and 10,000x the total bet.

Wild Puma Symbol & Wild Puma Collect

The wild symbols are the most valuable included in 4 Masks of Inca, but they can also appear with a multiplier of up to 5x attached to them as well. Furthermore, whenever a wild symbol lands on the playfield, it will be collected in the Wild Puma meter. When this meter reaches a predefined level, the game will award an instant cash prize between 10x and 50x the total bet.

Boost Bet

Enabling the ‘boost’ option via the button on the left of the reels will increase the size of every bet by 50% in return for increased odds of triggering free spins, Inca battles, and wild puma symbols. This does reduce the game’s RTP ever so slightly, but that could be a price worth paying for the promise of a much-improved bonus frequency.

4 Masks Of Inca Slot Bonus Features

The main bonus round is a three-spin feature that is triggered by hitting all three of the scatter symbols that are present on reels one, three, and five only. There is no cash prize for hitting the scatter symbols – only the feature is awarded.

Free Spins

This is a three-spin style bonus round, meaning you are initially given three lives. Any spin that does not include a wild symbol will cause you to lose a life, whilst spins that result in one or more wilds appearing on-screen will return your life counter to the initial three.

All wilds that land during the free spins feature will lock into place immediately after landing and stay in that position for the remainder of the bonus round. Furthermore, the multiplier attached to each wild will increase by 1x for every free spin played – the longer you can survive, the more valuable your sticky wilds will become!

Bonus Buy

The free spins feature is undoubtedly the most exciting – and potentially profitable – part of 4 Masks of Inca. That makes it all the more surprising to me that Foxium has included a bonus buy facility at the low price of just 60x the current bet – this is a real bargain in my eyes, especially as it also causes your RTP to increase by 0.15% as well.

Pros

  • Good presentation, great graphics, and a well-executed theme.
  • The huge top prize of 20,000x the total bet.
  • The amazing bonus round that combines many features in a way that I don’t recall seeing previously.

Cons

  • Many bonus rounds finish within just five or six spins – if you can’t take advantage of the bonus buy facility, this will likely be very frustrating.
  • Regular symbol payouts aren’t that exciting – you’ll need the wilds or the bonus round to come anywhere close to that 20,000x jackpot.

Final Thoughts

It took a little while for me to warm up to 4 Masks of Inca, but by the time I reached this point in my review, I was fully convinced by what Foxium has put together here. This has to be one of the developer's best games to date and is certainly not to be missed.
