Game Overview
The official title of this slot is quite a mouthful, isn’t it? 9 Coins – Hold the Jackpot™ was a previous Wazdan release that appeared just a few months back – I even remember writing the review – so this sequel must have been in development either at the same time as the original, or production may have started immediately after the release of the game. What could the new subtitles mean? Cash Infinity™? 1000 Edition? We’ll find out in just a moment after I’ve told you about the vital statistics – the 3×3 grid may look like this is a three-reel slot. However, it is, in fact, nine-reels in a 3×3 arrangement. The RTP is listed as 96.14% on Wazdan’s website.
Bonus symbols appear on the middle row of the nine real arrangement. Hitting three of these simultaneously will trigger the Hold the Jackpot™ bonus game. The Cash Infinity™ symbol can appear randomly in the base game and helps you to hit the Hold the Jackpot™ bonus game by becoming sticky on the middle row. If the Cash Infinity™ symbol also happens to land in the centre position, it will also increase the odds of the Hold the Jackpot bonus being triggered, too. The Hold the Jackpot™ feature is a three-spin bonus with various added functions.
So, are you ready to play an innovative nine-reel game with an unusual arrangement and a killer bonus round? Good for you, my friend, because we have such a game right here. Our free demo slot of 9 Coins Hold the Jackpot™ Cash Infinity™ 1000 Edition is available to play below:
9 Coins 1000 Edition Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Like the original 9 Coins™ game, this game doesn’t feature much of a theme. The background is non-descript; my best guess is that it is a blue rendition of the sky, but once you look at the reels, the game is just based around those huge golden coins, with no attempt to add any further theming to the slot. I guess you could say this isn’t a negative, considering that 99% of us playing slots play for the winnings more than the theme. Whilst this is true, I personally believe that players enjoy the additional effort that is demonstrated when a developer tries a bit harder with their theming.
Perhaps the paytable can offer us some small relief? Well, probably not, I suspect… there are no prizes to be won in the base game whatsoever; you have to win the Hold the Jackpot™ bonus round to score any winnings at all, so forget all those gold coins with numbers on them that appear during the base game – they really do have zero point or value. During the bonus game, gold coins will appear with fixed values of between 1x and 5x the bet. This is down from the much higher coin values range in the original game, which topped out at 50x. Thankfully there are also jackpot coins to be won here, and they appear very frequently, effectively replacing the higher paying symbols from the original game. Jackpot symbols can be won more than once and include the MINI (10x Bet), MINOR (20x Bet), MAJOR (50x Bet), and of course, the GRAND jackpot, which is worth 1,000x your stake. If you hit this coin, or the total of coins you accumulate exceeds the maximum payout of 1,000x your bet, the remainder of your spins will be forfeit, and the bonus will end.
We have the usual bizarre betting options here that seem to appear in all Wazdan demo slots. The minimum bet is €0.10, whilst the maximum selectable here is €10K per round. If any casino accepts those bets, please let me know, and I’ll eat my hat!
Base Game & Modifiers
I’ve taken a look back at my review of the original version of 9 Coins and had to laugh at what I wrote in this section. Just as now, I struggled to think what I could write in the base game section of a slot that doesn’t really have a base game!
You are presented with a 3×3 grid which contains nine reels. Each box is a reel, but when that reel stops, you only see one symbol contained on it. All of the symbols appearing in the base game are bonus symbols, but they are useless as far as you are concerned – until you hit a full line of bonus symbols on the centre row, you will not be winning a penny. There’s little more to discuss in the base game, so let’s move on.
Volatility Levels™
A “chilli meter” shown to the left of the main spin button allows you to select the volatility level of the game. It isn’t explained exactly how this affects things. Still, presumably, there will be more low-value bonus rounds at the low volatility setting, whilst the chances of hitting the Grand Jackpot will be higher at the high volatility setting. However, I kept a chart of my winnings from 20 bonus rounds and didn’t notice any significant difference between the three settings!
9 Coins 1000 Edition Slot Bonus Features
I’m sorry to report that the bonus round here seems to be just the same as the original 9 Coins online slot. When a developer adds an additional suffix or two onto the end of one of their games and re-releases it, you hope to see some new stuff in the new variant.
The only new thing you will see here is that the GRAND jackpot is worth 1,000x rather than 500x, and the value of the majority of your bonus rounds will be much lower as a result.
Effectively, Wazdan has upped the volatility of their Hold the Jackpot™ bonus round, and that is it. If this was a more interesting game, that might be fine, but come on – you can’t so much as win a penny in the base game, and now the bonus round pays next to nothing 9/10 times as well. Sorry Wazdan, but I can’t help but feel you are going in the wrong direction here.
Hold The Jackpot Feature
Just like the original game, you start your feature with three lives, and any red coins that were locked in place before the feature triggered will now be locked as well. On each spin, you need to land at least one extra symbol to avoid losing a life. Lose all three lives, and your feature is over. Each time you hit another symbol, your life counter will reset back to three, and the process will repeat until you either run out of lives or fill the screen with bonus symbols.
Here’s the bad part – in the original, I said that most of my bonus rounds ended up at less than 100x by my bet, but I did at least have a couple of breakout hits, scoring 200x and 400x. In this version of the game, my average win was well under 50x, and my only “breakout” hit was a massive 82x, created from hitting a MAJOR jackpot and a MINOR jackpot, along with a handful of coin wins.
The fact that my average winnings in the original were all under 100x bet doesn’t seem so bad now. I never broke that number once whilst testing this game.
9 Coins 1000 Edition Slot Review Final Thoughts
I’m not sure what to make of this, if I’m honest – I said in my previous review that this type of game might appeal to old school slot players, but if that includes you, I would seriously recommend sticking to the original version of 9 Coins.
This upgrade does allow you to win twice as much as the original game, but the way the rest of the RTP has been rearranged to accommodate for this has been poorly thought out, resulting in a game that very few people are likely to want to play very long. Sorry Wazdan – we love most of your slots, but your original 9 Coins game was far better than this “upgrade”.
