9k Kong In Vegas Slot (4ThePlayer) Slot Demo & Review

4ThePlayer has become one of my favourite new slot development studios over the past year or two – every one of their games seems to ooze with quality, with bucket loads of player-friendly features. These games genuinely do feel as if they have been made by players, for players, so the name of the studio could not be more appropriate! Their latest release, 9K Kong in Vegas, is a comedic take on the cultural icon King Kong. This is a 1,024 payway slot with an RTP of 96% and a maximum win of 9,216x your bet. That last number is presumably where this game gets its name.

What features has 4ThePlayer got in store for us this time? First up, there is a Big Win Repeater wheel which allows you to double your win as many times as you dare. Next, a free spins bonus round is triggered by hitting three scatter symbols and includes an interesting highest win repeater feature. You can opt to play “Xtra Bet” mode if you wish, which costs an extra 50% on top of the regular price per spin but boosts your chances of hitting the free spins as well as giving you two chances to double your winnings on the repeater wheel rather than just one. Finally, a bonus buy facility is available with two options: purchase the free spins bonus round or take a chance on a big win with the repeater feature.

You shouldn’t need more prompting from me to try this game! Our free demo slot of 9K Kong in Vegas is available to play below.

Paytable For 9k Kong In Vegas Slot
9K Kong in Vegas slot paytable

King Kong is a fictional giant monster that resembles an enormous gorilla, but the history of this character is far more interesting than you may expect! One of the story’s most fascinating parts revolves around the character’s intellectual property rights, which resulted in a famous legal case whereby Universal sued Nintendo over their Donkey Kong video game. Universal claimed that Nintendo infringed on their copyright, as Donkey Kong was a blatant copy of King Kong. However, it later turned out in the ensuing court case that Universal did not own the rights to King Kong anyway, and the entire case was thrown out, much to the amusement of the media at the time. Because the copyright to Kong is well established as being in the public domain, you will find him featured in all kinds of popular culture – take a look at Gorilla Madness for another example.

4ThePlayer’s games usually excel when it comes to their paytables, but as always, when a game has a huge number of payways, you cannot expect it also to have huge numbers on the paytable. The highest paying symbol in this game is, of course, Kong himself, and he has a return of 4.5x your bet for each completed payway of five-of-a-kind. The wild symbol has the same return of 4.5x, which is a tad disappointing – it’s nice when the wilds have at least a small premium over the top regular symbol – but I guess you can’t have everything! A huge Elvis-like lizard character is next, paying 3.5x your bet for all five symbols, followed by a flamingo holding a microphone with a return of 3x for each complete pay way. A rack of bananas will net you 2.5x, as will a cocktail, whilst a pair of dice or stack of casino chips will add 1.5x your bet to your balance. The four lower paying symbols are represented by playing card suits, with the spades and hearts paying a small premium over the diamonds and clubs.

The betting range seems a little unusual to me – the lowest you can play at is €0.40 per spin, but the next few steps after this are €0.50, €0.70, and €1.00. I can’t help but wonder why €0.40 was chosen for the lowest permitted bet. At the other end of the scale, high rollers can play at €70.00 per spin if they wish. Note that the Xtra Bet option increases the minimum/maximum bets to €0.60 and €105.00, respectively.

Base Game & Modifiers

Win Over 9,000x Your Bet In The 9k Kong In Vegas Online Slot From Provider 4theplayer
9K Kong in Vegas slot base game

The base game is relatively straightforward for a 4ThePlayer game; there aren’t many modifiers to discuss, but the screen is still filled with buttons and options – it could even be said to look a little cluttered on smaller screens. The playfield has five reels and four rows, for a total of 1,024 payways, and any three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels starting from the left will award a win.

Big Win Repeater

Any win greater than 10x your current stake will trigger the repeater wheel, which looks like a pie gamble. Unfortunately, this gamble feature lacks the flexibility of a true pie gamble – you cannot bank a share of your winnings; it’s all or nothing with this one.

If you are successful in spinning the wheel, your prize will be doubled, and you will be offered the chance to spin the wheel again. If you lose, your entire prize is lost.

Xtra Bet

The bonus bet facility costs 50% on top of the regular cost per spin and adds two additional benefits in return for its premium price tag. First, your odds of triggering the free spins feature are boosted by 150%, as many additional scatter symbols are added to the reels. Secondly, the big win repeater wheel will give you a second chance each time you lose, both during the base game and during the bonus round, where the wheel is used to determine if you will receive an additional set of ten free spins. The second advantage is the one that stands out to me, and I feel that the extra cost is warranted by this secondary benefit alone.

9k Kong In Vegas Slot Bonus Features

Land A Scatter On Reels 1, 3, And 5 To Trigger The Free Spins Feature
9K Kong in Vegas slot free spins feature

The scatter symbols appear on reels one, three, and five only, and you’ll need to hit all three of them in order to trigger ten free spins with the repeater wheel feature.

Free Spins

During this mode, your highest win will be remembered for the duration of the bonus round. If you win a smaller amount on a subsequent free spin, your winnings will be substituted for your previous highest win instead!

After playing all of your free spins, the repeater wheel will be displayed. At that time, the wheel will be divided into three segments:

  • 25% Chance – 5-20 Extra free spins, with your current highest win staying in play
  • 25% Chance – 5-20 Extra free spins, but your highest win will be reset back to zero
  • 50% Chance – The feature will end, and your winnings will be added to your balance.

Bonus Buy

There are two options to choose from on the bonus buy menu, provided that you are permitted to use these features in your jurisdiction:

  • 50x Bet – Big Win Repeater Feature will guarantee a win of over 10x your bet, which you can then opt to try and double up using the repeater wheel. I tried this option many times but rarely managed to win more than 50x from the initial spin alone, forcing me to use the gamble option if I wanted to make a profit. Of course, I would often lose my winnings altogether on the gamble wheel. All things considered, I’d probably give this one a miss.
  • 85x Bet – 10 Free Spins with Highest Win Repeater Feature, exactly as if you had hit three scatter symbols during the base game. This one feels like a bargain, and I had no trouble making a profit many times whilst testing this option out. If you are going to use the bonus buy facility, definitely pay the extra for the free spins option!

9k Kong In Vegas Slot Review Final Thoughts

This is still a great game and has a stunning presentation, but it isn’t 4ThePlayer’s best effort, in my opinion. I’ll definitely be playing it for a while when it goes on general release, but I can’t see this one becoming a favourite or anything like that.
