Achilles (Jelly) Slot Demo & Review

The Roman hero Achilles is probably best known today for the phrase “Achilles Heel”, referring to a weakness despite overall strength. Achilles was also a great warrior who survived several huge battles, which seems to be the more likely explanation for his place as the protagonist of several online slots. Jelly’s Achilles video slot uses 20 fixed pay lines, has an RTP of 94.99%, and a maximum win of 5,248x your stake.

There are four modifiers which can be invoked during the base game. The Achilles modifier, for example, allows players to choose one of six shields to win a cash prize or a set of free spins, whilst the Agamemnon modifier will add at least one full column of stacked wilds to the reels. There are also three bonus rounds, so there should be plenty to hold your interest whilst playing Achilles.

This latest Achilles online slot has just been released and is not to be confused with the Real Time Gaming slot of the same name that has been on the market for over a decade. Check out our free demo slot of Achilles below:

Paytable For Achilles Slot

The story of Achilles goes that, in Greek mythology, Achilles mother Thetis was told by a soothsayer that her son would die at a very young age. To prevent this, she took Achilles to the river Styx, which supposedly had the power of invulnerability. Thetis dipped Achilles in the water by one of his ankles, leaving our hero with one part of his body that was not protected. There are some alternative versions of this story, but this version is believed to be the most “accurate”. For extra bar trivia points, did you also know that the tendon in your ankle is named the Achilles tendon? You’ll be smashing the quiz night in no time if you keep on visiting demoslot.com!

The scatter symbol is not assigned a value in Achilles, but the wild symbol certainly is – at 50x your stake for five-of-a-kind, the wild beats all over symbols on the paytable by a significant margin. I’m going to take a guess that the roman soldier-like character is Achilles in his armour, and he pays 20x for a line of all five. You then have what could be another depiction of Achilles, this time smiling outside of his armour, and he pays 15x for five-of-a-kind. The final two high-paying symbols are a rather angry looking soldier holding a spear and a female character which could perhaps be Achilles love interest… or it could be his mother. Either way, you’re looking at 12.5x your stake for a full line of either of these interesting characters. Not an outstanding paytable by any means, but with the right modifiers and multipliers, there could be some big win potential here.

Picking your stake is nice and simple, with a single stake button leading you to a separate page where all the different possibilities are laid out for you to choose from. The lowest possible bet is €0.20, matching the number of pay lines, whilst the high end of the spectrum is set at €80.00 per spin.

Base Game & Modifiers

Play With 5 Reels, 20 Fixed Paylines, And Win Up To 5,284x Your Stake In Jelly's Achilles Video Slot

Achilles video slot uses the traditional 5×3 playfield in both the base game and free spin-based bonus rounds. The 20 pay lines are fixed, meaning you must play all of them on every spin, and are laid out in regular patterns that should be familiar to most online slots’ players. There’s a bunch of modifiers to get through, so let’s go straight to those:

Agamemnon Modifier

This modifier can be triggered on any spin and will add at least one full column of stacked wilds to the reels. The paytable does not make it clear if this modifier can award a full screen of wild symbols, but it would not be outside the realms of possibility given the advertised maximum win of 5,248x your stake.

Achilles Modifier

Another modifier that is triggered at random on any spin, this time around you are given six shields to choose from, each of which hides a prize. The shield you choose may award a five-of-a-kind win of any symbol, one of the games three bonus rounds, or even a “big win”. Again, the paytable is not specific as to how high these wins can be, but it must be assumed it can potentially be larger than the biggest five-of-a-kind win.

Skinny Greek Soldier Modifier

This amusingly named modifier will pick a random symbol from the paytable and then begin placing between four and seven of these mystery symbols on the reels. This helps immensely with winning on multiple pay lines at once, and a 2x multiplier is also sometimes applied to your final win.

Helen Modifier

Finally, the Helen modifier will create a “supersized” symbol somewhere on the reels. This symbol might be 2×2 in size, or occasionally it will grow even larger to a maximum of 3×3. It is also possible for two 2×2 supersize symbols to appear on the reels when this modifier is triggered. The supersize symbol can be anything on the paytable except for the bonus symbol, so you could potentially land a huge 3×3 wild symbol if you are super lucky!

Achilles Slot Free Spins Feature

You might think that Jelly had already done plenty with all those modifiers, but they haven’t been shy about adding bonus rounds to their Achilles slot game either. All the bonus rounds are triggered by landing a bonus symbol on reels one and three, as well as one additional symbol on reel five which will determine the feature that you will receive. Here are the possibilities:

Trojan Horse Feature

This is probably the one you don’t want to receive – quite apt, given its name! The maximum win from the Trojan Horse bonus is just 40x your current stake, so really isn’t anything to get too excited about. When this feature is triggered, soldiers will line up to enter the Trojan Horse. The maximum number of soldiers who will enter the horse is five, and you will receive a cash prize for each one. It does not matter how many soldiers enter the horse; the maximum prize still cannot exceed 40x your bet.

The Empire Feature

This bonus is a little better than the Trojan Horse, with a maximum pay out of 60x your bet. A world map is displayed, and you are asked to select a country to try and conquer. You will collect smaller cash prizes on your way to the country, as well as a larger prize if you successfully conquer the target country. Either way, you do not lose what you have collected on the way, thankfully!

Achilles Free Spins Feature

Finally, here is the feature everyone is going to want – ten free spins with sticky wild symbols! Additional wilds are added on reels one through four compared to the base game, and these wilds can remain in place for between one and three spins. It is possible to get many wilds on screen for a significant period of your free spin bonus, which is where the big money lies in this game. You can also purchase the free spin bonus for 80x your current stake, if this is permitted in your jurisdiction.

Achilles Slot Review Final Thoughts

This is the first game I’ve seen by Jelly, and I was mostly impressed. The graphics are extremely pretty, even giving off something of a Disney vibe. The sound, particularly the vocal effects, are a little bit on the cheesy side, but still made me crack a smile the first few times I heard them.

The winnings potential could be a little higher though, and the fact that 2/3 of the times that you land the three bonus symbols you will receive the Trojan Horse or Empire features does lead to a lot of disappointment. If you have the option to just buy the feature, I would use it in this game.
