Game Overview
An African safari is definitely on my bucket list, but I think it’s one of those things where you have all the best intentions of wanting to go until you price it all up and realise you’d likely have to remortgage your house. Thankfully Pragmatic Play is offering us a cheaper alternative with their new title African Elephant. Okay, so we won’t experience the sights and sounds of a safari, but we do get 20 fixed paylines, an RTP of 96.04%, and a maximum win of 15,000x.
So, what other major selling points does this game have? We start with the wild shape modifier that can randomly trigger on any spin. This will create a shape in a position on the reels, and once they come to a halt, all symbols inside the shape will transform into wilds. As for the main bonus round, this is a free spins feature triggered by landing at least 3 scatter symbols in view. Whilst this is active, a wild shape is guaranteed to land on every spin. Finally, if you’re impatient for a natural bonus trigger, you can utilise the bonus buy option, which will cost you 100x your stake.
Have I convinced you this game is a serious alternative to packing your bags and heading out on safari? Hmmm, I’m still determining if I’m buying it myself. But I’ve got a better idea; let’s try out the free demo slot of African Elephant below; it could turn out to be the deciding factor.
African Elephant Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Along with Egyptian and fishing-themed games, one of the most common genres of slots you’ll come across online is that of Safari. There really are so many to choose from if this is a style of slot you like, and a simple search here on our site will produce some absolute classics for you to try, like SG Gaming’s Raging Rhino or Blueprint Gaming’s Buffalo Rising Megaways. Yes, fellow slot fans, this is one of those themes that it would appear all game providers enter into a contractual agreement over, whereby their game portfolios must contain at least one safari game. I wonder if they get bonus points if it’s also a ” Book of ” slot. Anyway, enough with the wisecracks; let’s move on to the all-important pays section.
On we go to the paytable then, and the highest paying is the Elephant, which is also the wild symbol in the game. This will pay 75x the bet for a 5 of a kind win. Next is the rhino, worth 30x for all five symbols, followed by the zebra at 12.5x. Then we have the wildebeest, which will pay 7.5x for five symbols on a payline, and finally, the leopard and meerkat, both of which will award at 5x for all five symbols. Dropping down to the low pays, we have four royal symbols, the Ace, King, Queen and Jack, with all of these paying 4x for a five of a kind win.
It’s pretty much business as usual down at the betting range on African Elephant, with the minimum stake starting at €0.20, with a whole bunch of options available before reaching the maximum stake of €100. If you’re familiar with Pragmatic slots, you’ll be aware they are among the best in the industry at offering bet sizes that cater to all types of players, which is again the case in this game.
Base Game & Modifiers
African Elephant comes with a 5×4 reel set and 20 fixed paylines in place throughout all of the gameplay. To grab yourself some of those lovely winnings, you’ll need to land at least three matchings on adjacent reels, with the win needing to begin from the leftmost reel first.
Wild Shape
During any spin in the base game, there’s a chance the wild shape modifier can activate. When this triggers, it will mark random positions on the reels, and when that spin has ended, all marked positions will transform into wild symbols.
African Elephant Slot Bonus Features
Scatter symbols are present on all five of the game’s reels, but you’re only required to hit three for the bonus round to be triggered. Landing three will award 10 free spins, whilst four and five will reward you with 15 and 25 free spins, respectively. Multiple re-triggers can occur during the feature, and again you’ll need to land a minimum of three scatters to activate these.
Free Spins
The free spins mode doesn’t differ too much from the base game. However, the one significant difference is that on every spin, you are guaranteed that the wild shape modifier will activate. This provides your best chance of hitting any huge wins on this slot, and during my testing of the game, I was lucky to hit over 1000x a couple of times. Still, it’s a far cry from the maximum win of 15,000x, but it does at least provide you with a chance to unlock the game’s full potential.
Bonus Buy
If you’d rather skip playing the base game and you reside in a jurisdiction where the bonus buy button is active, you can trigger the free spins intently courtesy of the feature buy. Accessing this option will cost you 100x the current bet.
African Elephant Slot Review Final Thoughts
There’s literally a hoard of online slots themed around safari for you to choose from, so is African Elephant any different from them and worth playing? I’d have to say it’s a reasonable game and built to the usual high standard you’d expect from Pragmatic Play, but other than that, after you’ve played it once, I doubt you’ll be coming back for more. I would just add the max win of 15,000x bet does make it slightly more appealing to play, but still, I think you’ll soon forget all about this one and go back to looking through the brochures and dreaming of an actual safari trip on the African plains.
