Game Overview
Ah, Rome, the land of gladiators, emperors, and a whole lot of impressive marble. It’s also the theme for several (or, actually, several dozen) slots, mainly because if you’re going to use history as the basis for a slot storyline, not many places have quite as much to work with. I mean, you’ve got battles, epic architecture, powerful rulers, and even some notorious backstabbing – it’s like a slot developer’s dream come true. Eurasian Gaming is the latest developer to dip its toes into such history, and the result is Ancient Rome Deluxe, a 5×3 slot with 30 paylines, three fixed jackpots, and two bonus games.
So what of those features, then? Well, there isn’t a hell of a lot to grab the attention in the base game, but there is a Wild Stab feature that can add up to five random wild symbols to the reels and a gamble feature you can opt to use after a win. That’s about it, at least until you trigger the two bonus games. The first is a Hold & Win-stye game, with you attempting to land cash prizes and jackpots worth up to 100x the stake while filling all positions on the reels will land you the Grand Jackpot worth 1,000x. As for the free spins bonus, that bonus plays out similarly to the base game, except now the Wild Stab feature triggers on every spin.
Okay, we’re ready to put this game through its paces. Join us in our full review, or try all of the features for yourself in the Ancient Rome Deluxe demo slot below.
Themes, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
I’ll hold my hands up and admit that I’m not the biggest fan of Rome, and by that, I don’t mean the city, as that’s somewhere I’d love to visit one day. I mean in terms of it as the base of movies and, in this sense, as a slot theme. I’ve never been that interested in the whole gladiatorial thing or history. It’s just not my cup of tea. I know it is for many of you, though, and if that is the case, you might find you enjoy slots such as NextGen Gaming’s 300 Shields Extreme, Microgaming’s 4 Corners of Rome, and Arena Fighter from Jili Games.
The next port of call is to establish the payouts you can aspire to claim on Ancient Rome Deluxe. As you might expect, the Emporer Wild symbol, which also substitutes for all others when combos are possible, has the best payout of 16.67x the stake, which will come your way when five line up across a payline. The Colosseum is next with a top return of 13.33x, while the Scatter and Gladiator pay up to 10x. They’re followed by the Elephant, which delivers rewards of up to 6.67x, while the Shield and Flag both have a 5x multiplier. The Ace pays up to 4x, the King and Queen reward up to 3.33x, and the Jack and Ten can pay up to 2.67x.
The minimum stake supported on Ancient Rome Deluxe is €0.30 a spin, which could prove a little too rich for low-rollers, while those with deeper pockets can spin for up to €90.00.
Base Game & Modifiers
Eurasian Gaming has gone for a traditional 5×3 reel setup for Ancient Rome Deluxe, and across that configuration are 30 fixed paylines. Landing three or more matching symbols along a payline from left to right will result in a payout.
Wild Stab
The Wild Stab feature triggers after every spin during the free spins bonus, but there’s also the chance it can trigger randomly on a base game spin. It will transform up to five symbols on the reels (a maximum of one per reel) into wild symbols.
Gamble
A staple across many Eurasian Gaming titles, the Gamble Feature returns for Ancient Rome Deluxe. The Gamble feature offers a chance to risk your winnings for potentially bigger rewards. You’ll need to enable it in the slot’s settings, and once activated, you will have the option to gamble any win.
The idea is to guess the colour of the next playing card drawn from a deck. Each correct guess doubles your winnings. However, just one wrong move loses everything you’ve won.
Ancient Rome Deluxe Slot Bonus Features
There are two bonus games to aim for on Ancient Rome Deluxe: a Hold & Win game and a free spins bonus. You can find more information of each below.
Conquer Feature
The Conquer Bonus triggers when six or more Ship Money symbols land anywhere in view. Each triggering symbol carries over to a new set of reels and locks in place. Only Ship Money Symbols holding cash prizes or the Minor (50x) and Major (100x) jackpots can land on the reels during this bonus.
You receive 5 spins to land as many of the symbols mentioned above as possible. Each time a new symbol lands, it locks in place, and you win an additional spin. The bonus ends once the spin counter reaches zero or all positions are filled with symbols.
If your spins run out, you’ll win the combined cash and jackpot prizes landed on the reels. If all positions were filled with symbols, however, you’d scoop the 1,000x the stake Grand Jackpot.
Free Spins Feature
As for the second bonus game, this is a free spins bonus that triggers whenever three or more scatter symbols land as a result of a base game spin. You receive an initial 10 spins but also an additional 10 each time three or more scatters land on the same spin during the bonus. During free spins, the Wild Stab feature triggers on every spin.
Bonus Buy
There is a buy bonus feature on Ancient Rome Deluxe, but it only allows you to purchase the free spins bonus, not the Conquer Feature. Free spins will cost 59x your current spin bet.
Pros
- There are two bonus games, which at least mix things up a bit.
- The ancient Rome theme tends to be a popular theme with players.
Cons
- The minimum stake of €0.30 might be too high for some low-rollers.
Ancient Rome Deluxe Slot Review Final Thoughts
Ancient Rome Deluxe might not be up there with some of the other slots we've reviewed from Eurasian Gaming, but it does offer two bonus rounds and some fixed jackpots for you to aim for.
