Anubis Gold Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Avid slots fans should have worked this one out by now. Still, for those who didn’t catch it the first time, this is obviously a clone of Merkur’s hugely popular Eye of Horus slot machine, a high-variance favourite that has been the subject of hundreds of YouTube “big win” videos in the time since its release. That game had the potential to pay out much more than the 2,500x limit that is suggested on the paytable of the Anubis Gold online slot; however – it could be that you can win more than 2,500x when playing below max bet, or perhaps that is just wishful thinking, and this machine isn’t quite as big of a monster as its inspiration was. I did my best to work things out but couldn’t find a definitive answer either way.
The paytable isn’t so ambiguous, thankfully! The eye of Horus is the best paying symbol of the bunch (wow… that’s pretty blatant, Inspired!) with a return of 50x your bet for each complete pay line, whilst the Sphinx will pay you 40x for five-of-a-kind, and Cleopatra returns 30x for all five of her symbols. There is a second group of high-paying symbols as well – the pyramids will chuck you 25x your bet for five-of-a-kind, whilst the bird and the beetle both have a return of 20x for any combinations featuring five of those. The wild symbols pay as the top-paying regular symbol at 50x per line whilst there is a bonus cash prize of either 50x, 20x, or 2x your bet for five, four, or three scatter symbols, respectively.
Finally, there are 21 increments on the wager selection screen, starting with a minimum bet of €0.20 per spin and maxing out at €100. Typically, the size of these increments does increase significantly as you near the top of the scale, but this should make sense for 99% of players.
Base Game & Modifiers
The major benefit of playing a machine that has less pay lines than many other online slots is that there is much more scope for the developer to boost the value of the regular line hits. However, this advantage can be dulled slightly if a game includes several possibilities to hit many pay lines simultaneously. This is the situation we have here in the Anubis Gold slot game.
The base game action takes place on a standard 5×3 playfield, and winnings are paid for any combination of three or more matching symbols starting on the left and following the path of at least one of the pay lines. The most obvious tweak to this standard formula comes in the shape of the expanding wild symbols.
Super Wild
The super wild appears on reels two, three, and four in the base game and during free spins. The symbol has other benefits during free spins, but in the base game, its sole purpose is to expand and fill the reel to create additional winning paths from left to right. You can also hit all three super wilds together, ensuring a win of at least four-of-a-kind on all ten pay lines.

Bonus symbols appear on every reel, and hitting three or more will trigger the main free spin bonus round. Three bonus symbols will give you an additional prize of 2x your current stake, whilst four increases this to 20x, and all five pay 50x your bet. You always receive 12 free spins irrespective of the number of triggering symbols.
During the free spins feature, the super wild will trigger a symbol upgrade feature on the next spin after it has appeared. Catching one super wild in this mode will add an extra free spin to your remaining counter, whilst two will give you three more spins and all three award the maximum of five extra spins.
The symbol upgrade feature can potentially upgrade all picture symbols on the reels to Eye of Horus symbols, but you’ll need to hit lots of super wilds early on if you are to stand a good chance of benefitting from such a change. It’s a sweet feature when it works out, but be prepared for many disappointing bonus rounds between the big ones!
Anubis Gold Slot Review Final Thoughts
Unquestionably a near-total clone of Eye of Horus; the fact that Inspired didn’t even bother to change the best-paying symbol suggests that they either didn’t realise what it was or simply didn’t care. Either way, if the original isn’t available at your favourite online casino, you might have an option, as there’s little to separate these two games from one another.
