Aztec Gold Megaways Slot (iSoftbet) Slot Demo & Review

The Aztec civilisation flourished in Central Mexico between 1300 and 1521 when those pesky Europeans turned up with their unknown diseases. This ravaged the Aztec population, eventually leading to the collapse of their main city of Tenochtitlan, although it does live on in some ways as the modern-day location of Mexico City. I guess that you could say (at an absolute push) that some other aspects of Aztec culture live on in games such as iSoftBet’s Aztec Gold Megaways, too! The 117,649 payway machine has a 95.99% RTP and a decent-sized jackpot of 19,200x the player’s stake.

A Megaways game just wouldn’t be the same without the classic cascading reels mechanic, so you will, of course, find that included in Aztec Gold. The main bonus round is a little different to the norm, as this time, we get a three-spin feature dubbed ‘Aztec Gold Cash Re-spins’ that comes with reel multipliers and four jackpot prizes. The highest-paying MEGA jackpot will only get you 1,000x the total bet, but there is theoretically no limit to the number of times it can be won in a single bonus round!

This game has been getting a lot of attention from the slot channels on YouTube just recently – find out why with our free demo slot of Aztec Gold Megaways, available to play below.

Aztec Gold Megaways Slot Paytable

The Aztecs seem to get more than their fair share of online slots named after or based around them! Pragmatic Play alone has created a whole bunch of such games, including Aztec Bonanza and Aztec Gems Deluxe, and there are already plenty of existing Megaways-style Aztec machines, too. I know what you are thinking though; how about the Inca?! The Inca were more advanced than the Aztecs, apparently, but we’ve only recently got the first online slot based around them in Play’N’Go’s Legacy of Inca. So imagine that: centuries after the defeat of your civilisation, it turns out that the battle is still raging in the form of online slot machines. We really do live in an amazing time, don’t we?

The highest-paying symbol on the paytable is a slightly scary-looking dude with glowing eyes, offering a payout of 50x the total bet for a full payway of six of a kind. There’s a significant drop before we get to the tiger, which has a 10x payout for all six of his symbols, after which we have a snake and a crow that share equal returns of 2.5x the total bet for a complete payway. That’s only four high-paying symbols, which seems a little unfair considering that there are six low-paying royals too! The payouts for those low pays range between 0.8x and 1.75x the total bet – not great, but they do show up with decent frequency, at least.

The betting range available in Aztec Gold is based on bets of 20 coins, with coin sizes between €0.01 and €1.00. This results in a minimum/maximum bet of €0.20 and €20.00, respectively. There are a good variety of stakes to choose from within this range, meaning all players should be able to find an amount they are comfortable playing at.

Base Game & Modifiers

Aztec Gold Megaways Slot Base Game
Aztec Gold Megaways slot base game

Most Megaways games use a six-reel layout with one additional horizontal reel, but Aztec Gold Megaways opts for six seven-high main reels instead. This makes it a little easier to see what’s going on in my view, and I never really understood what the horizontal reel was meant to add to gameplay anyway!

The scary guy with glowing eyes will award a payout for just two of his symbols, but all others require at least three matches on adjacent reels to award a win. The paytable doesn’t mention the two modifiers within the game, but the intro screen and rules pages do – here’s a quick breakdown.

Max Megaways

As the name implies, this mod will force the current game round to roll in a full set of seven rows on all six reels, resulting in the maximum possible total of 117,649 Megaways.

Sun Discs Boost

During any base game spin, a sun disc boost modifier may activate, adding a bunch of additional sun disc scatter symbols to the reels. Unfortunately, this only increases the odds of triggering a bonus round and does not guarantee one.

Aztec Gold Megaways Slot Bonus Features

Aztec Gold Megaways Slot Respin Feature
Aztec Gold Megaways slot respin feature

There’s just one main bonus round available in Aztec Gold, and you’ll need a massive five sun disc scatters in order to get there. Fortunately, the scatters do seem to land a little more frequently than in many other games, but I did still find it difficult to trigger the bonus whilst writing this review.

Respin Feature

This is a three-spin feature played on a separate reel set which features only sun disc scatter symbols. Each sun disc scatter has a cash prize associated with it in this part of the game, and every one of these that lands will reset your spin counter back to the initial three. Three blank spins in a row will end the bonus round.

There are three jackpot scatters available in this mode: MINI, MAJOR, and MEGA, with payouts of 30x, 100x, and 1,000x, respectively. Multiple jackpots can be won during a single bonus round.

If an entire reel is filled with sun disc scatters, a multiplier equal to the number of rows on that reel will be applied to all wins that appear in the same column.

Aztec Gold Megaways Slot Review Final Thoughts

This is yet another solid Megaways game, and adding a three-spin feature gives the slot a different feel from many previous free spin-based Megaways slots. If you love three-spin features, this game offers a perfect blend of that type of bonus with the ever-popular Megaways mechanic.
