Game Overview

The bakery section of my local supermarket is easily one of my favourite locations within the store – fresh bread, cakes, cornflake clusters; if you want something tasty that won’t cost the earth, the bakery section is always a good bet. Better still, it somehow makes me feel a bit nostalgic too – my mum’s baking days were truly a highlight of my childhood! All of this makes me the ideal person to review Bakery Bonanza, in my opinion – at the very least, it certainly gives PG Soft a head start! Now that my own qualifications as a verified scoffer of bakery-produced treats have been established, let’s talk about the game’s vital statistics – between 2,025 and 32,400 payways, a 96.72% RTP, and best of all, a top jackpot of 35,000x the total bet.

Bakery Bonanza includes several features common to machines produced by Pocket Games Soft. This includes ‘Wilds-on-the-way’, a base game feature that creates silver and gold frames around winning symbol combinations that can be transformed into sticky wilds, as well as multiplier reels available on columns two, three, four, and five. Like most other titles this developer produces, the main bonus round is a standard free spin-based affair. It offers a 3x multiplier by default, which can be further boosted in 3x increments with no apparent limit mentioned within the paytable or rules.

Interested? You can try the game for yourself with our free demo slot of Bakery Bonanza, but unfortunately, without all those lovely aromas you get to take in when entering the store, damn. Anyways, it’s available to play below.

I don’t recall reviewing any other bakery-themed slots in the past, but there are plenty of games out there which focus on the broader theme of food. These games probably aren’t ideal for playing when you are starving, although if that is the case, you’re probably better off nipping out to the shops instead of depositing your money at an online casino! Whilst I’m collecting my latest award for stating the obvious, I’ll give you a few links to explore – Fat Frankies by Play’N’Go is one such game, although both the RTP and maximum win offered by that machine are far inferior to that provided by Bakery Bonanza. There’s also NetEnt’s Cupcakes, but that game is a little bit rubbish if my memory serves me correctly! On second thoughts, it’s probably best to stay in the bakery aisle…

An excessively indulgent chocolate cake sits at the top of the paytable of Bakery Bonanza, offering a top prize of 50x the total bet for a full pay way of six of a kind. Six slices of cheesecake will get you 30x your bet back in winnings, whilst a smaller cream bun topped with chocolate is worth 15x for a full set of those. There’s also a croissant at 8x, a donut at 6x, and … a small white cake of some description at 5x for a six of a kind combination. That just leaves us with the four low pays, represented by playing card suits and offering returns of 4x the total bet for a complete pay way.

The standard Pocket Games Soft bet selection mechanism is all present and correct as usual, this time offering coin sizes of either €0.01, €0.10, or €0.50. Combine these options with the ten possible bet levels, and you can opt to play at any multiple of the minimum €0.20 wager until you run into the upper limit of €100.00 per spin.

Base Game & Modifiers

Whenever a game offers a large number of payways these days, it’s tempting to refer to it as a Megaways game, although PG Soft has not licensed that technology for Bakery Bonanza. The game does use the same six-reel layout as the majority of Megaways slots, but in this case, the reels can divide into between two and five positions each, whilst the symbols themselves can appear in either single, double, or triple height varieties. These factors result in a minimum/maximum of 2,025 or 32,400 payways, respectively.

Wilds On The Way

During any spin, all regular symbols that land on reels two through five and occupy more than one position may appear surrounded by a silver border. During the next spin, if a winning combination occupies one or more positions surrounded by such borders, the outline will be transformed into a golden variety.

Once a golden frame has been created, it will remain in place on the playfield until a winning combination lands inside it. When this occurs, the symbol will be transformed into two or four wild symbols.

Multiplier Reels

When winning combinations are evaluated at the end of a round, the global win multiplier will increase by 2x for each winning symbol present on the multiplier reels shown at the bottom of columns two, three, four, and five.

Bakery Bonanza Slot Bonus Features

To trigger the bonus round in Bakery Bonanza, you will need to land at least four scatter symbols simultaneously. This will award you 10 free spins, with two extra spins added for each additional scatter up to a maximum of 14.

Free Spins

At the start of the bonus round, the win multiplier will be set to 3x. When winnings are evaluated at the end of each free spin, that win multiplier will be increased by 3x for each winning symbol located within the multiplier reels two, three, four, and five. Unlike the base game, the win multiplier is not reset between each round of the free spins.

The free spins feature cannot be re-triggered, but it is possible to win a handful of extra spins by collecting the +1 symbol exclusive to this part of the game.

Pros

  • A mammoth jackpot of 35,000x the total bet.
  • The wilds-on-the-way mechanic makes it possible to hit some big wins even during the base game.
  • The global multiplier increases in 3x increments during the bonus round, ensuring you're always in with a chance to hit big.

Cons

  • The bonus round feels relatively difficult to trigger – I only saw it twice despite spending much longer than usual trying to activate it as I wrote this review.
  • Silver frames frequently expire before you have a chance to convert them into the more useful golden variety.

Final Thoughts

The last few PG Soft titles that I have investigated have been a little disappointing due to their smaller jackpots and limited feature sets, but Bakery Bonanza suffers from no such issues. Give it a try and see what you think; hopefully, it doesn't have you heading out to the bakery like me, who is about to purchase their body weight in chocolate eclairs!
