Banana Town Dream Drop Slot (Relax Gaming) Slot Demo & Review

The original Banana Town online slot from Relax Gaming was a pixel art-inspired machine, presented very much in the same style as Thunderkick’s Flamebusters. This new update, dubbed Banana Town Dream Drop, doesn’t add anything new in terms of graphics or features, but it does have one very important ‘extra’ bolted on! That extra is, of course, the eponymous Dream Drop Progressive Jackpot, which Relax has been hard at work adding to several of their previous popular titles. The resulting game uses the same scatter-pay payout mechanic, meaning there are no traditional pay lines or pay ways, and the basic game itself retains its 10,000x maximum jackpot cap. The big difference, however, is the game RTP – this still stands at 94% as standard, but with a 12% contribution for the Dream Drop jackpots, this results in a real-world number of just 82%.

So, is Banana Town Dream Drop worth playing? If you enjoyed the original and like progressive jackpot games, then the answer is an obvious yes, but I imagine there could be a considerable subset of players who prefer to stick with the original. The game still sports its symbol multiplier feature, potentially boosting the value of any symbol by up to 64x. These multipliers are most valuable during the free spins phase of the game, where the multipliers reached in the base game are retained and are much easier to upgrade between spins.

Banana Town Dream Drop Slot Paytable

First up, if you aren’t familiar with the original Banana Town, then we have a review and demo of that game available here. Bananas are strangely popular as a theme for online slots, too! Pragmatic Play’s Wild Wild Bananas is a personal favourite, but there’s also Reelplay’s Bananaz 10K Ways and a whole bunch of gorilla-themed games that heavily feature bananas, such as Lightning Box’s Lightning Gorilla. Banana Town is a very different style of game; however – it’s more about a kooky town (think “banana republic”) than a game ABOUT bananas. I just love this 8-bit look – something about it really appeals to the child in me, I guess! But I’m not so keen on paying 12% of every spin towards a progressive jackpot that I’ll almost certainly never win. Still, it’s nice to have the option of a progressive jackpot version of Banana Town, nonetheless.

The numbers shown on the paytable of Banana Town Dream Drop can be a little misleading, as it’s actually the total number of symbols that occur during an entire game round (including all cascades) that determines how much you will win. Nevertheless, the big gorilla guy is the most valuable symbol on the paytable with a return of 12x the bet for a maximum of 12 or more symbols, closely followed by the orange and purple characters, who both pay 6x your bet for 12 of their symbols. The green and blue characters have returns of 4x each, after which you’re onto the low-paying banana symbols; the yellow and red varieties are worth 3x each, whilst the green and blue ones are a little less valuable as 2x for 12 or more symbols.

As far as the betting range is concerned, you can opt to play for as little as €0.20 per spin should you wish, whilst the maximum betting limit has been pegged at €100.00 per game round.

Base Game & Modifiers

Banana Town Dream Drop Slot Base Game

Banana Town Dream Drop is a six column, five row slot machine that utilises the scatter-pays payout mechanic. This means that you only need to hit eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the reels to score a win – they don’t need to be arranged in any particular order or layout.

One important thing to keep in mind here is that changing your bet amount will reset the multiplier level for all symbols on the paytable. You can return to the previous bet amount to restore those multiplier levels at a later time, should you wish.

Multiplier upgrade

Each symbol on the paytable has a multiplier associated with it that begins at 1x. Whenever that type of symbol is involved in a winning combination, its multiplier will be doubled. Occasionally, the game will trigger a modifier at the start of a random base game spin that will upgrade a random number of symbol multipliers. This modifier is always active during the bonus round.

Banana Town Dream Drop Slot Bonus Features

Bonus symbols can appear anywhere on the reels, and you’ll need to hit at least three of these to trigger the free spins feature. Three will award the default of eight free spins, with one additional spin added for every extra scatter symbol collected thereafter.

Free Spins

When the free spins feature begins, the current multiplier levels for all paytable symbols are retained and active from the start of the very first free spin. Additionally, the symbol multipliers are not reset between spins in this mode as they are during the base game. Landing any bonus symbols whilst the feature is in play will add one more free spin to your remaining total for every bonus symbol.

Dream Drop

The Dream Drop progressive jackpot feature can trigger automatically before any base game spin. When this occurs, you are guaranteed to win one of the five progressive jackpots.

  • RAPID: Seeds at €1.00
  • MIDI: Seeds at €5.00
  • MAXI: Seeds at €100.00
  • MAJOR: Seeds at €25,000
  • MEGA: Seeds at €500,000

Note that the jackpots can reach far higher totals than this – for example, the MEGA jackpot currently stands at €3,900,242,12.
