Electrocoin’s Bar-X is, without a doubt, the oldest fruit machine from the arcades I’ve ever seen that has been upgraded to an online slot. I’m sure, as I do, you can all remember the likes of Reel King when it was first introduced into the amusements as a Section16 slot with a £500 jackpot, or even Inspired Gaming’s Centurion Maximum Winnus, both of which are now available online, but certainly nothing as old as the Bar-X has made the transition as far as I am aware, which I remember seeing rows of in my local arcade back in the late 80s and early 90s. Okay, now that bit of nostalgia is out of the way, let’s find out what the online version of Bar-X can pay. I’m sure it will be higher than the £6 in tokens the ones I used to play paid out for a jackpot.
You’ll not find many online slots that are as low-tech as Bar-X, with the game having just three symbols on the reels. These are Nought, which pays nothing and is a blocker symbol; the Xs, which award 10x bet for a winning line of three; and finally, the Bars, awarding 50x bet if three hit across the payline. This maximum win can change, with players having the option to play three versions of the slot, where the max win can be either 30x, 40x, or 50x.

If you make a mistake and accidentally nudge out a possible win, the game will move the reels back to their original position and use the nudges for you to create a winning combo.

It may be one of the oldest cheats in the book, but when using your nudges, if you can’t create a win, try to nudge in either two Bars or two Xs on the reels. After you have done this, if you are offered a hold option, don’t hold anything and just press spin. This will guarantee you either a win on the Xs or Bars.
Unfortunately, on Realistic’s version of Bar-X, the game helping you out by nudging in a win if you make a mistake is actually somewhat of a hindrance. On various releases of Bar-X in land based amusements where this isn’t the case, you can buzz the machine up by knocking back wins, eventually leading to the machine streaking for several jackpots.
