Baron Lord of Saturday (Play'n Go) Slot Demo & Review

Developer Play’n Go is no stranger to the spookier side of life, having released slots on vampires in Wild Blood 2 and the beasts within Pandora’s Box of Evil. Generally, the developer does a good job when it tinkers with darker themes, and that’s why I’m excited to get my hands on Baron Lord of Saturday, a voodoo-themed slot featuring the high standard of graphics and animations we’ve come to expect from the studio and some interesting features. It is a 5×4 slot with a 96.20% RTP, high variance, and 3,500x the stake maximum win.

The gameplay in the base game centres around wild symbols that can land on the three middle reels and a Wild Reel feature that enables wilds to expand and fill the reels. During the free spins bonus, up to three of those reels can allow wilds to expand, while a collection mechanic gives you a chance to unlock additional spins and wild symbol win multipliers of up to 10x.

Play’n Go is a popular slot developer, so I’m sure that most of you will take the time to power up the Baron Lord of Saturday slot below without me needing to dish out some hexes.

Play’n Go isn’t the first developer to use voodoo as the inspiration for a slot theme, but there aren’t that many voodoo-inspired slots around generally, so it does make Baron Lord of Saturday somewhat unique in that regard. As I cast my mind back to other releases, the first that sprang to mind was Yggdrasil’s Voodoo Hex, a 3×3 slot with a 9,400x maximum win. It’s not one of the most complex slots around, but as it’s made in collaboration with Peter & Sons, you can expect quality visuals on par with Baron Lord of Saturday. Another example is Blueprint Gaming’s Voodoo Temple, which offers the best-winning potential of the three with up to 20,000x the stake available, so it is one to try for all you risk-takers out there.

Speaking of payouts, it’s about time we see what the symbol combinations will deliver on Baron Lord of Saturday. The Male Character has an 8x the stake return when the symbols line up five times across a payline, and the Woman is worth up to 6x. The Voodoo Doll, Cigar, and Hat all pay up to 3x, leaving just the playing card suits to wrap up this section. These are the Spades and Hearts, which have a top return of 2x, and the Diamonds and Clubs reward that both return 1.6x for a five of a kind win

The betting range on Baron Lord of Saturday begins at just €0.05 a spin, so a game the low-rollers are sure to get value out of, whilst at the opposite end of the spectrum, high-rollers can play up to a maximum price per play of €100.00.

The colourful Baron Lord of Saturday slot offers 5 reels, 4 rows, and 20 paylines, and payouts come when 3 or more matching symbols line up along one of those paylines starting from the leftmost reel.

Wild Symbols & Wild Reels

Wild symbols can land anywhere on the three middle reels and substitute for all regular symbols when winning combinations are possible. Triggered randomly, between 3 and 6 wilds can be added to the reels. Furthermore, in the base game, one of those middle reels can become the subject of the Wild Reel feature. Any wilds that land on that reel will expand to fill all positions. During the free spins bonus, the Wild Reel feature can affect up to three of those reels at the same time.

Baron Lord of Saturday slot bonus features

Scatter symbols can only appear on the first and last reels, and when they land on both simultaneously, the free spins bonus game is triggered, and eight spins are awarded to begin with.

Free Spins Feature

During this feature, wild symbols start with a 2x win multiplier. A collection mechanic also awards additional spins and increases those multipliers. Once you collect 4 scatter symbols, you receive another 3 spins, and the win multiplier attached to wilds increases to 3x. Collect another 4, and you again get 3 more spins, and the multipliers are upped to 5x. Collecting a final 4 scatters gives you another 3 free spins; this time, the wilds will hold 10x win multipliers.

Pros

  • As you’d expect Play’n Go has once again delivered superb visuals.

Cons

  • A maximum win of 3,500x the stake is not enough to get me out of bed.
  • Low RTP modes can be in play.

Baron Lord of Saturday Slot Review Final Thoughts

To be honest, I’m just not feeling it with Baron Lord of Saturday. Yes, the slot looks fantastic, but I wouldn't expect anythingn Go else from Play'n Go. I found the gameplay fairly flat, which alone wouldn't bother me too much if the maximum win possible was more substantial than it is at just 3,500x the stake. It’s not terrible, and many of you may enjoy the game, but it's not a slot that I can see myself returning to.
