Game Overview
When you’re in the slot review business for a living and a title comes across your desk featuring the word Book, Egypt, Fishing, Buffalo, or Bison, you tend to take a deep breath, the cheeks are then usually puffed out, your lips do that vibrating thing as you exhale, and a facepalm follows shortly after. So after taking my head from my hands, it’s time to get busy as we get set to look at Big Time Gaming’s Big Bad Bison Megaways slot. This 6-reel slot has up to 117,649 paylines, an RTP of 96.59%, and a maximum win of 67,640x the bet.
As for the feature set, we have wilds that can land in both the base game and the free spins feature, with the possibility of random multipliers up to x5 being attached to them. Trigger the free spins by landing three or more scatters in view, and during this bonus round, you’ll get an opportunity to increase the minimum amount of ways each spin can produce. In addition, BTG’s unique win exchange feature is present within the game, where wins between 25x – 50x can be gambled for a chance of winning the free spins. If you can’t wait for that or an organic trigger, then you can purchase instant access to the bonus round for 100x the current bet.
Are your virtual bags packed for yet another online slot journey to North America? Good, I guess that just leaves the question of whether this will be a long stay or a fleeting visit. You can try out the demo slot of Big Bad Bison Megaways and decide for yourself. It’s ready and waiting for you to play below.
Big Bad Bison Megaways Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
In the field of geology, a rock is defined as any naturally occurring solid mass or aggregate of minerals or mineraloid matter, and unless you’ve been living under one since 2016, you’ll know that Australian outfit Big Time Gaming were the creators of the now famous Megaways slot engine with the release of Dragon Born. Of course, the developer themselves continue to produce slots featuring the mechanic like today’s game Big Bad Bison, but their masterstroke was licensing Megaways to other providers within the industry, which undoubtedly crossed their palms with silver several times over. It’s time to dig a little deeper into this title, then, and what better place to start than at the paytable.
There are no real shocks regarding the highest paying symbol in the game, which is the bison paying 25x bet for a six of a kind win. We then have a considerable drop in value down to the eagle, worth just 1.5x if all six connect from left to right. Finishing off the premium pays section are the wolf and Elk, both of which pay 1x bet for a completed line of six. Finally, onto the low pays, there are six royal symbols, with the Ace, King and Queen all paying 0.8x for a complete line of six, and last up are the Jack, Ten and Nine, all paying 0.7x for a six of a kind hit.
The price to play starts at €0.10, with a dozen or so other options then available before reaching the maximum bet of €10 a spin. It is worth mentioning that BTG is still not offering variable RTP models of their slots, which has to be said is a feather in their cap on that front, at least.
Base Game & Modifiers
Big Bad Bison is played over the classic Megaways format of 6 reels where up to 7 symbols can appear on each of them. Through the Megaways formula, this allows the slot to generate up to 117,649 ways to win on any spin. Landing three or more (two in the case of the bison) matching symbols will award the corresponding value from the paytable.
Multiplying Wilds
The wild symbol can only appear on reels 2, 3, 4, and 5. When it lands, there is a chance that it will reveal a multiplier value of up to x5. All wins are then multiplied by the displayed wild multiplier for each wild that substitutes in the win.
Win Exchange
If you hit a win that equals 50x your bet or over, then you have the option of exchanging 50x of that win for 12 free spins. If however you achieve a win of between 25x – 50x, you have the option to gamble that win for a chance of winning 12 spins.
Big Bad Bison Megaways Slot Bonus Features
If players hit 3 BTG bonus scatter symbols, the main feature will be triggered, and 12 free spins will be awarded. Any scatter that lands after the third will add 4 extra spins to the starting total.
Free Spins
During the free spins, landing two scatters in any position will award 4 extra spins, with each scatter that is a part of the re-trigger thereafter awarding 2 extra spins on top. Furthermore, any re-triggers that are awarded will not only add extra spins to your current total but will also increase the minimum amount of Megaways in play on each spin, as seen below.
- 1st re-trigger: Increases the minimum ways per spin to 729.
- 2nd re-trigger: Increases the minimum ways per spin to 4,096.
- 3rd re-trigger: Increases the minimum ways per spin to 15,625.
- 4th re-trigger: Increases the minimum ways per spin to 46,656.
- 5th re-trigger: Increases the minimum ways per spin to 117,649.
Bonus Buy
If you would like to access the free spins feature instantly on Big Bad Bison and can do so in your jurisdiction, it will cost you the price of 50x the current stake.
Pros
- High non-variable RTP.
Cons
- The theme and game style has already been milked to death.
- Frustrating when wilds hit and don't contain a multiplier.
Final Thoughts
After their last effort of Over the Moon Megaways failed to impress, it was always going to be a tall order to produce a bison-themed slot that had any originality to it at all. Granted, BTG has managed to incorporate a minimum ways feature into the bonus round, but in my view, it doesn't save the game from once again falling short.Maybe this is just a filler slot from Big Time Gaming, but it's been a while now since they had a blockbuster, and it's safe to say Big Bad Bison Megaways isn't going to slide into that category anytime soon.
