I’m not entirely sure how we got to the point where slot developers seem to feel they require their own fishing franchise to be part of the “big leagues”, but that certainly seems to be where we are today! Inspired Gaming hasn’t pulled too many punches with their entry into the genre, however – this game unashamedly borrows ideas from the two major fishing games Fishin’ Frenzy and Big Bass Bonanza, and I could imagine some players easily mistaking this title for its better-known cousins. Many of the included features will be instantly familiar to fans of the big-name fishing franchises, such as the fish money symbols, which act as mixed pays, and the fisherman who can collect the cash values displayed on them during the bonus round. The big fishing fortune bonus round starts with a pick-me phase where the player chooses a “big fish”, the value of which is determined by the number of triggering scatter symbols. You’ll then be granted “unlimited” free spins, with the feature only concluding when the big fish has been caught.
This game has previously been available in a land-based format here in the UK – I’m not sure how widespread it might be outside of this country, but the online version offers a superior RTP anyway. Big Fishing Fortune Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
There are so many fishing-themed games out there nowadays that I genuinely would not be surprised to learn that these slots are now every bit as widespread and popular as games featuring fruit or sweets! I’m not going to try and debate which are the best examples of the genre here – our review library includes no less than 581 matches for the term fishing right now, a number that is only increasing rapidly with each passing week! Examples include Lucky Fishing Megaways and Fishing Frenzy Prize Lines, to name just two, and Big Fishing Fortune certainly isn’t the best-looking of the bunch, as the graphics look like they were knocked up quickly by the office junior! Still, with just ten pay lines, it’s probably going to pay well.. right?
Right! The fishing boat is the most valuable symbol and can pay as much as 200x the total bet for a complete payline of five of a kind – a substantial base game hit. The fishing rod is worth half as much at 100x for all five symbols, followed by 50x for the tackle box and life preserver, and 20x for any combination of the fish money symbols. All lower-paying royal symbols share equal payouts of 10x the total bet for a full payline.
The minimum/maximum permitted bets available in Big Fishing Fortune have been set at €0.20 and €100.00 per spin respectively, but note that changing the size of your bet will also alter the amounts shown on the fish money symbols – bigger prizes can only be won when playing bigger bets.
Base Game & Modifiers
Inspired has opted to keep things relatively simple in the gameplay department here – the slot utilises a traditional 5×3 video slot layout, spanned by 10 fixed paylines. Ten-line games do pay out less often than those with more lines or payways, but the flipside to this is that the prizes can be considerably higher in value.
Mixed Pays
The reels include eight different types of fish, all with cash values attached to them. Unfortunately, it’s only possible to collect the cash prizes during the bonus round – a fault that has strangely been copied straight across from the Fishin’ Frenzy franchise! I dislike this aspect of both games – why show the prize values in the base game when you cannot possibly win them?
Big Fishing Fortune Slot Bonus Features
The buoy is the bonus scatter symbol in this game and is present on all five reels. You’ll only need to hit three of them to trigger the free spins feature, but four or five-scatter triggers guarantee that your “big catch” will be worth more – a minimum of 20x with three scatters, 30x with four, or 50x with all five.
Free Spins Feature
Before the bonus round begins, you’ll be shown a match-three game where you pick from several tiles to determine which will be the “big fish” for the current bonus round. You’ll be awarded unlimited rounds when the free spins begin until the big fish is caught.
In this part of the game, any fisherman that lands at the same time as one or more fish money symbols will cause him to collect the cash values shown finally. If the big fish symbol lands in view, it will lock into place, and the remaining reel positions will re-spin repeatedly until a fisherman symbol lands to collect the big prize. If all 15 positions fill with a big fish symbol, you’ll be paid the games jackpot, and the feature will end.

Final Thoughts
I think Inspired has probably thrown this game together quickly, intending to take advantage of some of the fuss surrounding fishing-themed slots at the moment, as it doesn’t have the same high-quality appearance as many of their other releases. It’s a good blast, but the jackpot desperately needs to be boosted if this game is to compete with the big-name fishing franchises.
