Game Overview
Am I the only one who giggled a bit after first reading the title of Inspired Gaming’s new online slot? Big Horsey Fortune is a wonderfully silly name for a slot and instantly reminds me of the chess meme craze sweeping YouTube a little while ago. You’ve got to be a MENSA-certified genius to make money playing chess, but I’m hoping that won’t be the case with this ten payline online slot! The 92.01% RTP isn’t giving me a great deal of confidence, though – that’s basically 4% less than the industry average, which is more than enough to have a significant and noticeable effect on how the game plays. The maximum win also looks to be capped at just 2,500x the total bet, which feels extremely low for a ten-line game.
Ten-line slots often feature some of the best line hits, and Big Horsey Fortune doesn’t disappoint in this area. The paytable includes wins of up to 200x the total bet for five of a kind, but it’s important to keep the flipside in mind: such pay lines are exceedingly rare. Furthermore, the base game doesn’t even include any wild symbols – those are only present on the bonus reels, where they can bizarrely turn out to be your worst enemy!
This one sounds like a pretty mixed bag so far. If you’d like to check it out for yourself, we have a free demo slot of Big Horsey Fortune available to play below.
Big Horsey Fortune Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
High-quality horse-themed slots are a bit thin on the ground, in my experience! There are the Frankie Dettori games by Playtech, of course, but those are getting a little bit long in the tooth in 2023 – they’re way too old to be included in the Demoslot review library, that’s for sure. I guess that Pragmatic Play’s Happy Hooves probably qualifies, but even that certainly isn’t a world beater – at least it’s better than Play’N’Go’s Colt Lightning, though! Big Horsey Fortune looks the part, but its low RTP and the small maximum win could disqualify the game with many players before the starting gun fires.
The paytable includes four high-paying symbols, the most valuable of which is the purple saddle with a return of 200x the total bet for a full payline of five of a kind. The jockeys hat is next and pays 100x the bet for all five symbols, followed by the horseshoe and binoculars, which share equal payouts of 50x for a complete pay line. Next, there are eight different horse symbols, any five of which will earn you 20x the current stake. Unfortunately, the numbers shown on those horse symbols are only relevant during the bonus round, similar to how things work in Eye of Horus or Fishin’ Frenzy. Finally, at the lower end of the paytable, all five low-paying royals will get you 10x the current stake for a five of a kind combination.
The minimum/maximum permitted bets available in Big Horsey Fortune have been set at €0.10 and €100.00 per spin, respectively. There’s no shortage of intermediate bets either – it’s not quite as flexible as older online slots, but I can’t imagine many players struggling to find a suitable wager.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game of Big Horsey Fortune is relatively straightforward and features a standard 5×3 reel layout with 10 fixed paylines. There are a couple of things to be aware of, though – all of those horse symbols with numbers shown on them are of little use until you get to the bonus round, and there are no wild symbols on the base game reels either. You’ll need to match three or more symbols on adjacent reels starting from the left to achieve a win.
Mixed Pays
Eight different horse symbols appear on the reels, which I assume are meant to represent eight runners in a fictional race. If any three of these symbols land on an active payline, you will be paid 1x the current stake, increasing to 5x or 20x for four or five symbols, respectively. The numbers shown on these symbols are cash values that can only be collected during the big winner bonus – see below for details.
Big Horsey Fortune Slot Bonus Features
You’ll need to hit three or more bonus scatter symbols to trigger the bonus round, which begins with a ‘Pick Me’ feature to determine which horse will be your ‘Big Winner’. The values available in the pick me feature are determined by the number of triggering scatter symbols – a three-scatter trigger has a range of 20x-100x, whilst a five-scatter trigger narrows this to 50x-100x.
Big Winner Bonus Free Spins
This is an ‘unlimited’ free spins feature that will only conclude when your chosen ‘Big Winner’ symbol is collected by a punter. The ‘punter’ in question is the game’s wild symbol, which only appears during this part of the game.
If the punter lands at the same time as one or more horse symbols, he will collect all of the cash values shown on each horse, which can theoretically continue indefinitely. In my experience, however, you’ll be lucky to go more than six or seven spins before your chosen big winner shows up simultaneously as a wild symbol.
Even if the ‘big winner’ has the maximum possible value of 100x the total bet, you’d need quite a few of them to get anywhere close to the games’ maximum jackpot of 2,500x the total stake
Big Horsey Fortune Slot Review Final Thoughts
This game does have one or two things going for it, but the bonus round is poor, the RTP is horrendously low, and the maximum jackpot is relatively tiny as well. Whatever good things I might say about Big Horsey Fortune, there’s no way that they could possibly counteract so many glaring issues.
