Ah, the paytable lacks a little clarity, as, during the prior match-three game, you have unlimited free spins, too, and the “match-three” component relates to how many times the variously sized pumpkins will appear during these spins. The more triggering symbols, the less of, the smaller pumpkins will get in your way of winning the bigger prizes attached to the larger pumpkins.

A spooky looking eyeball or an even spookier looking ghost will each pay you 50x your bet for all five of those symbols. There are several different pumpkin symbols on the reels, and any mixture of these forming part of a five-of-a-kind combination on a pay line will win you 20x your bet. There are five lower-paying royal symbols, all of which pay 10x your bet for a full pay line.
The wagering range runs from a tiny €0.20 per spin up to a frankly bonkers €100.00 per spin. Or perhaps that is meant to frighten you? No, half the slots we review allow you to bet that much if you want to, but statistics widely reported in annual reports suggest only a handful of online slots ever receive bets as large as this.
Base Game & Modifiers
So how about the base game? We have five reels consisting of three rows each, and many of the symbols are stacked on the reels – which is fantastic to see on a ten-line slot – but the lack of a wild symbol dampens my enthusiasm slightly. Likewise, the fact that every pumpkin has a cash value associated with it that cannot be won as part of regular play is somewhat frustrating, but I can forgive all of these things bearing in mind the large numbers on the paytable.

Note that there are eight different sizes of pumpkins in Big Scary Fortune, but none of them is worth any more than any other during the base game. This changes slightly – but only slightly – in some other parts of the game.

The bonus round in this game has been given a cool name, and it deserves it too, as it merges lots of different ideas into one main feature that you’ll always be excited to hit.
Triggering the bonus requires that you hit three or more bonus cauldrons during the base game, which will then take you to a match three preliminary stage to decide the value of the Big Pumpkin.
- With three bonus symbols, the Big Pumpkin can be worth 20x, 30x, 50x, or 100x.
- With four bonus symbols, the Big Pumpkin can be worth 30x, 50x, or 100x.
- With five bonus symbols, the Big Pumpkin can be worth only 50x or 100x.
Free Spins Feature
During this mode, the game will award you unlimited free spins until the Big Pumpkin is collected, adding the amount decided during the pick-me phase to your total free spin winnings.
When a scarecrow and any pumpkins land in view, the values shown on all pumpkins are paid. If more than one scarecrow lands, all pumpkin values will be collected for each scarecrow that lands.
If a big pumpkin lands during free spins, it will become sticky until a scarecrow lands and collects its value, after which the bonus will end. If big pumpkins continue to land by some miracle, filling the screen before a scarecrow can collect their values, the bonus will end, and the value of all 15 big pumpkins will be paid to you as a job lot.
