Then again, I’m not sure I needed Microsoft Word to tell me that “blobsters” was slightly ridiculous. I guess it’s nice to have it confirmed though. Blobsters Clusterbuster is the latest entry in Red Tiger’s popular Clusterbuster franchise, a line of grid slots with an enviable reputation for awarding stunning wins. You’ll need to line up at least five adjacent matching symbols to score a win, whilst the top prize from a one billion round simulation was 7517.1x the current bet. The return to player (RTP) percentage is right around the industry average at 95.7%
There is quite a bit to unpack here regarding the feature set, but it makes sense to start with the Clusterbuster feature as it is part of the title of the slot! Each game round features an inactive symbol cluster that can be unlocked by exploding other winning combinations close to its edges. If the entirety of the inactive cluster is unlocked during a single game round, then you will win the prize hidden underneath the central character. Three modifiers are included to spice up the action; upgrader, Frenzy, and Supersize, and we’ll be discussing each of those in-depth later in this review. There’s also a main “Invader Spins” bonus round which features multipliers of up to 12x, dramatically increasing the potential of an already lucrative slot.

Blobsters Clusterbuster Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
I suspect these Clusterbuster slots must be doing quite well for Red Tiger, as this is the third one that we have looked at in a short amount of time here at Demoslot. The first game was the far less kooky Good Luck Clusterbuster, which shares many features with this game but is much less fun in terms of its visual styling. Then there was the mythical Dragons Clusterbuster, which was likely a big hit with fans of Harry Potter and similar magical tales. If you enjoyed either of those previous slots and fancy a light-hearted take on the Clusterbuster formula, pull up a seat, as I suspect you will enjoy a few rounds of Blobsters!
Each of the high-paying symbols is represented by a different coloured blob, and Red Tiger has usefully added extra eyes to the more valuable blobs making it easy to see how valuable a winning combination is. The yellow blob is the most valuable, so he has four eyes and will pay you 250x the current bet for a maximum cluster of 35 or more adjacent symbols. Smaller clusters of 25-29 symbols will pay 30x your bet, whilst 15-19 symbols pay 10x. The red blob returns 150x/20x/5x your bet for the same 35+/25-29/15-19 symbol clusters, respectively, followed by the green blob at 100x/15x/4x and the blue at 50x/12x/3x. The lower end of the paytable consists of five royal symbols payouts of between 10x and 20x your bet for a maximum 35+ symbol cluster.
The betting range offered by Red Tiger’s games varies wildly from one machine to the next, and this one allows you to bet from €0.10 per spin up to a maximum of €10.00. That’s quite a low maximum wager by top-tier slot standards, but it is still likely enough to satisfy most players.
Base Game & Modifiers
The playfield used in Blobsters Clusterbusters is absolutely enormous, even by grid slot standards! The grid consists of nine columns of nine rows each, typically resulting in 81 symbol positions. The actual total is slightly less due to the giant blob in the centre of the screen, which occupies a nine-symbol (3×3) area. This still leaves 72 positions available to create winning clusters, which means you have plenty of space to create several winning clusters in every spin.
Clusterbuster
A huge blob – or UFO – is positioned in the centre of the playfield on every spin. Creating winning combinations around the edge of the UFO will cause the lights adjacent to the winning symbols to turn green. The first special feature will be activated when all eight lights are illuminated.
The unlocked feature will remain active on subsequent spins when the game can invoke it as a modifier. You can unlock additional features by illuminating all of the UFO’s lights on subsequent spins.
The special features available are as follows:
- upgrader: Blobby will charge his weapons and shoot random low-paying symbols which are not part of a winning cluster, transforming them into higher value symbols. Between 8 and 24 symbols will be upgraded each time this feature is activated.
- Frenzy: Blobby has upgraded his weapons, and any symbols hit will now transform into wilds! Up to 20 symbols can be affected by this upgraded weapon.
- Supersize: After a second upgrade, Blobby’s weapon can now transform symbols into huge 3×3 clusters, which are evaluated as if they were nine individual symbols in a group!
Blobsters Clusterbuster Slot Bonus Features
No traditional scatter symbols are available in Blobsters Clusterbuster, as the bonus round is activated differently. After unlocking the three special features described in the previous section, the next time you illuminate all eight lights surrounding the central UFO, the game will award you a set of Invader Spins.
Invader Free Spins
Each bonus round activation awards ten free spins, where the special features are guaranteed to trigger much more regularly. However, the game does not specify how this increase is achieved, which makes me a bit dubious as it surely means that the symbol drops are being manipulated.
Technical implications aside, this appears to be a very rewarding bonus round. Blobby is there to help you once again, this time with the ability to add multipliers of up to 12x to your winnings. Each time he does this, he will also add three more free spins to your remaining total.
Blobby can activate a maximum of three times during each set of Invader Spins for a total of 19 free spins with a 12x multiplier. However, neither of these upgrades is guaranteed – I did receive the maximum of three activations a couple of times whilst I was testing the game, but it appears to be the exception rather than the rule.
Blobsters Clusterbuster Slot Review Final Thoughts
This machine won’t be for everyone, but those who enjoy grid slots, especially the previous Clusterbuster slots, are sure to get a kick out of this game. The features seem particularly difficult to unlock, and it took a long time to reach the Invader Spins each time whilst I was writing this review.
There’s no bonus buy facility available, so you’ll need to be patient if you want to see the best parts of this game, but overall, I think it is worth the wait most of the time.
