Boat Bonanza Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Since the release of Fishin’ Frenzy, many other developers have created their own lines of fishing-related slot machines. One such developer is Pragmatic Play, with their Big Bass series of games – Big Bass Splash, Big Bass Bonanza, and even Bigger Bass Bonanza! Those games share many similarities with this one, but they aren’t all direct clones of one another. I guess you could consider these games to be similar to the trend for “book” slots – you know, Book of Dead, Book of Ra, Book of Vlad, Book of Lady, Book of Tut… I think that’s more than enough examples, don’t you? At least the developers creating these games aren’t silly enough to give them all ridiculously similar titles!
The paytable of Boat Bonanza will update as you change your current bet size, which is always a nice touch in any game – it requires so little effort, yet some developers – I’m looking at you, Red Tiger – still can’t be bothered to implement this basic yet incredibly useful feature into their games. The top symbol is a buoy, which seems an interesting choice. Why not a shark or a fisherman? I guess there’s little point speculating – you’ll receive 200x your current bet for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind buoy symbols, followed by 100x for all five anchor spindle symbols on a pay line. The duck is worth 50x for all five, as is the green cage … I guess that must be for all those nasty crabs and other crustaceans they find in their nets! There are five lower-paying symbols represented by typical royal symbols, ranging from Ace to Ten. All five of these have a payout of 10x your bet for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind, which makes it nice and easy to remember how much you will win for the lower-paying five-of-a-kind combinations.
Play’N’Go usually implements a handful of quick bet buttons in their slots, but I guess they didn’t feel like it on this occasion. Instead, you have a simple selector with plus and minus buttons allowing you to choose a bet size between the minimum of €0.20 and the maximum of €50.00 per round.
Base Game & Modifiers
Base gameplay takes place on a 5×4 playfield, a size which often comes with 1,024 pay ways attached. However, as there are just 12 fixed paylines in this game, it’s nice to see that Play’N’Go has used some of the available RTP to offer sizable base game hits. Take the highest-paying buoy symbol, for example, which will pay you a full 200x your stake for a single pay line of five-of-a-kind. The highest-paying symbol in many other recent online slots is often worth less than 50x your bet or even less than 25x, so the 200x offered here seems fairly generous to me.
Catch Modifier
Boats will regularly sail across the top of the reel set. However, many of these boats are inactive and are shown in a greyed-out form. Keep an eye out for the red boats, however, as these are active and will collect the values of all CATCH SYMBOLS currently shown on the reel below.
Catch symbols can be identified by the cash prizes displayed at the bottom of the graphic. Still, unlike the Fishin’ Frenzy games, Boat Bonanza will also pay you a prize if you hit any mixture of these symbols on an active pay line. The prizes are not huge – 1x, 5x, or 40x, for three, four, or five of these symbols, respectively, but it sure is better than nothing!
Mega Catch Modifier
If two active red boats happen to pass each other along the top of the reel set on any spin, the MEGA CATCH modifier will be triggered. This differs from the regular Catch Modifier as a Mega Catch will collect the values of ALL catch symbols present on the entire screen, rather than just those displayed directly below the active boat. The Mega Catch Modifier occurs much more frequently during the free spins bonus round.
Boat Bonanza Slot Bonus Features
Hitting three scatter symbols will trigger a free spins bonus round with ten free spins, whilst hitting four or five symbols will award you 15 or 20 free spins, respectively. During this mode, two multiplier boats are always active. These special boats will multiply the value of the catch symbols on the reels below, increasing the maximum possible win up to the game’s jackpot level of 5,000x your bet.
Each time a catch or mega catch modifier is triggered during the bonus round, a free re-spin will be awarded where the regular win lines are disabled. You can only win further prizes via additional catches.
The free spins feature also boasts a couple of additional symbols – first; the green fish symbol will add one additional free spin to your remaining counter. Secondly, the blue fish symbol will increase the multiplier of any boats passing along the top of the reels.
Boat Bonanza Slot Review Final Thoughts
I’m a big fan of Play’N’Go’s slots, but I’ve also played my fair share of Fishin’ Frenzy and have to say that there isn’t much extra here that will tempt players of those games into giving this one a try. That’s not to say that Boat Bonanza is a bad game – it’s just that it’s pretty much a direct clone of an existing popular game that most of us have played to death already. If you haven’t tried Fishin’ Frenzy, give this game a look – otherwise, I doubt you will find much new to enjoy here.
