If you’ve played the original version of this slot Bonanza Megaways™, then you will be more than aware of the mining theme and now legendary love it or hate it music that accompanies the game. There are however some glaring differences in the Megapays™ version, which are the 4 jackpots that are visible above the reels, and the Megapays™ logo that can trigger the jackpot round ( that we will come to later in the review )
Moving over to the paytable we see that the lower value symbols are made up of the royal cards 9 through to the ace, where pays ranging from 0.8x, up to 1.75x can be awarded when winning combos are formed through them. The more valuable and premium paying symbols comprise of the green gem, blue gem, red gem and diamond, where a 6 of a kind win will pay 2x, 2x, 7.5x and 50x respectively.

Cascading Reels
The original version of this slot was the first Megaways™ game to feature the cascading reels mechanic, so as you would expect it’s included in the Megapays™ slot as well. It certainly makes you reminisce back to the first time of seeing this mechanic in action on Bonanza, and the excitement and number of wins that it can bring.
Those who are not yet familiar with cascading reels will be in for a treat, as this feature allows you to achieve several consecutive wins whilst still only paying for your original spin. This is made possible by all symbols that are a part of a win exploding and in turn being eliminated from the reels. Spaces are then left behind that need to be filled, with new symbols dropping down from above which provides additional chances to win.
This series of cascades will continue for as long as you are creating new winning combinations. Keep an eye out for the slot rolling in the maximum ways of 117,649, this on occasion can lead to some massive wins when the cascading mechanic kicks in.
Bonanza Megapays Free Spin Feature
Entering the free spin feature on Bonanza Megapays™ will require you to land the letters G O L D any where in view. If this is achieved then 12 free spins will be awarded for you to begin the bonus round with. It should be noted that each additional scatter symbol that lands after the letters will award 5 extra spins respectively.
It’s again a very familiar sight as the free spin bonus begins on Bonanza Megapays™. You will initially be awarded with a win multiplier that has a stating value of x1, but it is of course possible to increase the value of this through winning reactions on the reels.
So, each time that you hit a winning connection and it causes the reels to cascade, your win multiplier will be increased by x1 in value. If you can get a good run of consecutive cascades, then your multiplier can soon head Into double figures, which can help to produce some huge wins.
Additional free spins can be won through the carts of gold appearing on the upper reel. If 3 carts appear in view then you will be awarded with 5 extra spins. Four carts appearing on the reel will add an extra 10 free spins to your current total.
Jackpot Feature
So the moment that you’ve all been waiting for, the Megapays™ jackpot bonus. It’s anticipated that this will be included on a number of Big Time Gaming slots, but Bonanza has been chosen as the first game to feature it.
At the top right hand side of the game you will note that the word Megapays™ is underneath the Bonanza logo. When you’re spinning the reels, the letters of the word Megapays™ can be filled with pink, sometimes this won’t happen at all, whilst at other times it may fill the word only a few letters or more.
For the Megapays™ bonus to trigger, you will need the word Megapays™ to fill completely as in our example above. If this happens then the jackpot bonus is triggered and you will move to the next stage of the feature.
The next part of the Megapays™ bonus is where you are awarded a random lower value symbol. This may remind players of the symbol selection during the gates of hell bonus on BTG’s Danger High Voltage.
Once your symbol has been awarded, then you will be taken to the next screen where the jackpot bonus will begin and you have the chance to win a life changing sum of money.
With the Megapays™ bonus now in action, you will see that the jackpot values are positioned to the right hand side of the reels, and jackpot meter positioned to the left hand side of the reels.
Each time one your symbols lands anywhere within the reel set, it will advance you one position up the jackpot meter. Bonanza Megapays Final Thoughts
When we initially reviewed the original version of this slot we scored it 10 out of 10. So we felt that it was only fair to once again give Bonanza Megapays™ a 10, as in essence it is the same game. There are however some points below that you should take note of if you do decide to play the Megapays™ version.
Firstly, the graphics are a lot sharper on the Megapays™ version, and visually it is a far better slot that we also felt ran much more smoothly than the original. Secondly, after some extended play, we also felt that the game dropped in the max Megaways™ more often than the first version of Bonanza. We also had the max Megaways™ in the free spin feature, which to date we have still yet to achieve in the first outing of Bonanza.
The most important point to mention though is the RTP on Bonanza Megapays™. The jackpot feature, as it does on the majority of slots that feature it, will take a proportion of the game RTP to cover the cost of paying the pots, and in Bonanza Megapays™ that amount is 9.6%.
As the total RTP of the slot is 96.58%, it means that you must deduct the 9.6% to get the actual RTP of the game without the Megapays™ bonus. This gives you an actual base game and free spin feature of 86.98%, which of course is far lower than the original version of Bonanza that has an RTP of 96%.
So in conclusion, if you’re a jackpot slot player, then of course playing the Megapays™ version of Bonanza is going to be ideal for you. If however you like Bonanza and think you’ll give this version a try over the original, then you need to be aware of the RTP that you are losing to cover the jackpots.
