At least Realistic Games has thrown something fresh into the mix with their latest release, Book of Bass. They’ve combined the tried-and-tested Book mechanics with a fishing theme, complete with money symbols and a collect feature. Are you interested to learn more? Book slots have become such an iconic genre that they’re almost a parody of themselves at this point. Developers have even started to lean into the joke, poking fun at the sheer volume of these titles. Take Book of Books by Peter & Sons, or my personal favourite, Book of Insert Name Here by Arcadem. They’re practically winking at us with those titles, saying, “Yep, we know it’s getting a bit ridiculous.”. But, at least Book of Bass has mixed things up by adding in a fishing slot angle.
Onto the paytable, and the Book Scatter/Wild and the Fisherwoman Wild/Collect symbols share the best payouts, both awarding 200x the stake for 5-symbol combinations. The Fishing Lodge regular symbol also matches that payout, while the Handsome Fisherman has a top return of 100x. The Fishing Rod and Tackle Box both pay up to 50x, while any combination of 5 Fish Money symbols pays 25x. The Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and Ten make up the lower values, all with equal pays of 10x.
The minimum and maximum bets supported on the Book of Bass slot are €0.10 and €10.00. I have no issue with the lower end of that range, but the top end could deter the high rollers among you from playing.
Base Game & Modifiers
As with most Book slots, a 5×3 reel configuration in play features 10 fixed paylines. To form winning combinations, you’ll need two or more matching high-paying symbols or three or more matching low-value symbols to land a cross a payline starting from the leftmost reel.
Book of Bass slot bonus features
There are two bonus rounds that can be triggered in Book of Bass. Let’s look at each of these below and how they play out.
Book of Free Spins
Landing 3, 4, or 5 Book scatter symbols anywhere in view on a base game spin will trigger the Book of Free Spins bonus game. You’re given 10 free spins, but one symbol is randomly chosen as a special expanding symbol before they start. If enough of those expanding symbols create a win (they pay anywhere in view), they will expand to fill their reels at the end of a spin.
If the Fish symbol is chosen as an expanded symbol, and a Fisherwoman collect symbol lands on the same spin, its value is collected before and after it expands. Finally, it’s possible to re-trigger this bonus from within, and each time a re-trigger occurs, a global win multiplier increases by 1x.
Fish Free Spins
The Fish Free Spins bonus triggers when 3 or more Fish scatter symbols land on the same spin. You’ll receive 10, 15, or 25 free spins for 3, 4, or 5 scatters, respectively.
During this bonus, the Fiserwoamn Wild symbol will collect the values of all Fish Money symbols that land on the reels. Those cash values will range from 2x up to 50x. Again, if this bonus is re-triggered, a win multiplier increases by 1x each time.
Bonus Buy
You can purchase the regular free spins bonus for 103x the current bet or the Fish Free Spins for 83x.
Pros

Book of Bass Slot Review Final Thoughts
You have to give kudos to Realistic Games for at least trying to do something different in the Book of slot space, and actually, the addition of the Fish Collect free spins bonus works well. Aside from that, however, everything else is what you’d come to expect from a Book slot.
