Game Overview

Women are well known to be some of the biggest lovers of online slot machines. Still, it’s a subject I have never really given much thought to – much research has been done into various areas of the psychology behind how men and women react differently to gambling in general, but as for why do women take to these machines much more than men? I’m not sure a definitive conclusion has been reached. Still, Book of Lady by Endorphina is sure to appeal to the female crowd, a ten-line slot machine with a 96.03% RTP and a maximum jackpot prize of 5,000x your stage. And it has handbags and shoes on the reels. Come on, what woman wouldn’t love this? Ahem.

Like many of Endorphina’s slots, the Book of Lady online slot is fairly utilitarian in its design – the base game has some decent-sized hits on the reels but is low on bells and whistles. A free games feature is included to break up the action and offers an expanding symbol feature that will be familiar to players of Book of Ra / Book of Dead and its countless clones, such as Thunderkick’s The Falcon Huntress. It’s not the most jam-packed slot in terms of features, but it sure can throw out a big win.

Paytable For Book Of Lady Slot

Even though women are known to be particular fans of slot machines, that hasn’t stopped developers courting this section of the market with a wide range of games aimed specifically at them over the years. Microgaming re-skinned their already popular “Thunderstruck” machine as “Ladies Nite” more than a decade ago – perhaps believing that the Thunderstruck aesthetic wouldn’t suit the tastes of their female player base. On the other hand, they also created another two or three clones of Thunderstruck, such as Spring Break, so maybe it was more just a case of milking a great math model for all it was worth. Whatever the case, I couldn’t help but chuckle at the name “Book of Lady” – I’m sure there are plenty of female fans of Book of Dead out there who are more than happy to play the popular game without it being reskinned with handbags, pretty pussy cats, and other such “female-friendly” imagery. Only Endorphina really know, though, if this game was a necessary update to a well-loved slot machine formula, and at the end of the day, it can’t do any harm to hedge your bets, so to speak, can it?

The paytable has been borrowed directly from the other “Book of…” games, as far as I can tell – from memory, I didn’t bother to compare the two directly. We have a stunning blonde who takes pride of place at the top of the paytable with a return of 500x your stake for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind, so if she is your lucky draw for the free spins bonus and you manage to land one of her on each of the games five reels, you will automatically win the games 5,000x jackpot. Endorphina isn’t copying the recent trend of placing a cap on winnings, so if you hit a lucky spin and win 5,000x your stake, you can continue collecting winnings until the end of your bonus round. The cat is in second place, returning 200x your bet for all five, followed by the handbag at 75x, the shoes at 75x, and then the low-paying royal symbols, which pay either 15x or 10x your bet for five-of-a-kind. The scatter, which also acts as the game’s wild symbol, pays 200x your bet for all five, including when retriggering the bonus round during free spins.

The betting range matches most of Endorphina’s other games with two settings – one for the coin value and one for the coin bet. At the lowest coin value of a penny, you can wager between €0.01 and €1.00 per spin, whilst at the high end, the range spans from €10.00 to €100.00 per spin.

Base Game & Modifiers

Play With 5 Reels, 10 Paylines, And Win Up To 5,000x Your Bet In Book Of Lady Online Slot From Provider Endorphina

As mentioned previously, you won’t find too many surprises as far as the base game is concerned in the Book of Lady slot game. It’s a five reel, three row game with ten fixed pay lines, and all wins are awarded for hitting three or more matching symbols anywhere on a pay line from left to right. The exception to this comes in the bonus round – more on that later.

Gamble Feature

Many of Endorphina’s slots feature a card-based gamble feature, but the developer has mixed things up a bit this time by basing your odds on the value of the dealer’s card rather than simply a red or black colour-based gamble.

This means that your odds can be higher or lower on every round depending on the dealer’s card – if the dealer is showing a two, you have a great chance – an RTP of 162%, in fact – whilst if the dealer is showing an Ace your odds are very low at just 42%. I actually think that this is quite a fair gamble feature as it lets you see what you are up against before you choose whether or not to take the gamble. For that reason, I don’t see any reason not to have a look at the end of a high-paying bonus round – if you are almost guaranteed to double your winnings, you’d be foolish not to at least consider making the bet!

Book Of Lady Slot Free Spins Feature

Landing 3 Or More Scatter Symbols In View Will Trigger The Free Spins Feature On The Book Of Lady Video Slot

I’d be surprised if you haven’t seen an expanding symbols free games feature before at this point – hitting three or more scattered book symbols will trigger the feature and begin the selection of a random symbol which will act as your expanding symbol for the duration of the bonus round.

During this mode, if your randomly selected expanding symbol appears on three or more reels during any spin, these symbols will expand to cover the entire reel, and you will be paid for, for example, nine paylines of three Kings. If you hit a King on every reel, the entire screen will fill with Kings, and you will be paid for ten pay lines of five Kings.

An additional feature included in Legacy of Dead, but not the original Book of Dead is that if a retrigger is won during this mode, an extra expanding symbol will be selected. You can now win multiple times from a single spin – or more often – if enough of your expanding symbols land. Theoretically, you can make a maximum of nine symbols into expanding symbols, although I never saw more than three during my time testing the game, and they were all low-value symbols.

Book Of Lady Slot Review Final Thoughts

I was expecting a straight-up clone of Book of Ra / Book of Dead, but it turns out this is more of a clone of the improved Legacy of Dead game that Play’N’Go produced some time after creating Book of Dead. With that in mind, this is a superior game to both Book of Ra and Book of Dead in my book. (Sorry… couldn’t resist)
