Bounty Hunters Slot (Nolimit City) Slot Demo & Review

It’s been some time since we’ve looked at a Nolimit City release that didn’t use some kind of weird and wonderful playfield arrangement – take The Border, for example, with its 6×6 reel set and 160-of-a-kind maximum symbol combinations… or how about The Cage with its mixture of 3-4-3-4-3-4-3 and 3-3-3-2-2-2-3-3-3 row sets? Whilst I love both of those titles, I must admit that I’m pleased to see Nolimit City has decided to produce a more traditional 243-way video slot this time around! The game RTP is also rather average at 96.07%, but those who enjoy the more unique aspects of Nolimit City’s typical output needn’t worry – Bounty Hunters still includes a wide range of special features as well as an impressively high maximum jackpot of 52,310x the player’s stake.

I’m sure you’re eager to learn what treats Nolimit has in store for us this time, so here’s a brief overview – stacked Bounty Hunter Wilds are present on reels two, three, and four, and will nudge until fully visible whenever they land on the reels. If you are fortunate enough to land a bounty hunter wild fully in view without requiring any of those nudges, you’ll be treated to some ‘few dollars more’ sticky wild re-spins. There are two sets of scatter symbols – the main scatters only appear on the centremost three reels and are used to activate the Raid Spins, whilst the secondary scatters on reels one and five trigger a different bonus known as the Mexican Standoff. If lady luck is really on your side, hitting both sets of scatters simultaneously will activate the enhanced Showdown Spins. Activating the bonus bet facility will increase the odds of triggering all of these features but comes at a heavy cost – every spin will cost you three times as much as normal.

If any developer can do justice to the Wild West slot genre, it should surely be the Limitless guys – you can find out if they have succeeded by trying our free demo slot of Bounty Hunters, available to play below.

Bounty Hunters Slot Paytable
Bounty Hunters slot paytable

There’s been something of a flurry of bounty hunter-themed slots released in recent months – Red Tiger updated their Bounty Raid franchise with a sequel, Fantasma Games gave us their spooky crossover Bounty Showdown, and Snowborn produced another interesting title taking place on the American Frontier which was simply named ‘The Bounty’. All three of those games – along with this new release from Nolimit City – serve as a thorough reminder of how far we have come since early online slots in this style, such as NetEnt’s Dead or Alive. Of course, Dead or Alive is a timeless machine that will probably still be a favourite with slot players when the universe’s last stars exhaust their hydrogen supply, but there’s no denying that it feels somewhat dated compared to its modern counterparts.

That being said, Dead or Alive was hugely popular for a reason – as a nine-line slot, the game was able to offer some truly stunning payouts on its paytable, including a 2,500x prize for hitting all five of its scatter symbols. There’s nothing like that on offer here – the revolver is the highest-paying symbol of the bunch, but it’s only worth 5x the total bet for a complete payway of five of a kind. The second-placed bullet symbol drops to just 2.5x for all five symbols, whilst the canteen, dynamite, and whip return only 2x, 1.5x, and 1.25x, respectively. As for the low pays, five aces are worth 1.25x whilst the other royals all share identical payouts of 1x each for a five-of-a-kind combination.

With the xBet bonus bet option disabled, the minimum/maximum permitted wagers have been set at €0.20 and €100.00 per spin, respectively. There’s a decent range of other bets allowed between the two limits, so you’ll have no problem finding a bet that suits you regardless of the size of your bankroll.

Base Game & Modifiers

Bounty Hunters Slot Base Game

Bounty Hunters utilises a traditional video slot layout with five reels of three rows each. The playfield is spanned by 243 payways – again, a traditional configuration for a video slot, but somehow that’s an unusual thing to see from this particular developer! All of the symbols require at least three matches on adjacent reels starting from the left to award a win, but the regular prizes offered on the paytable are not particularly exciting – to hit it big when playing this machine, you’re going to need one or more of its many special features.

Few Dollars More

Landing a fully stacked bounty hunter wild anywhere on the playfield will activate the ‘Few Dollars More’ special feature. In this mode, bounty hunter wilds become sticky and remain in place whilst the remaining reels will re-spin; if any further bounty hunter wilds appear in view during the re-spin, the feature will repeat.

Xbet Bonus Bet

If you’re feeling flush, you can opt to increase the size of your bets by 200% in return for an increased probability of triggering the game’s features. This also has a small effect on the machine’s RTP – playing with xBet enabled has a theoretical return of 96.24% rather than the default 96.07% offered in regular play.

Bounty Hunters Slot Bonus Features

Bounty Hunters Slot Free Spins Feature

As if all of those base game features weren’t enough to entertain players, Bounty Hunters also include a multitude of bonus rounds as well! There are two sets of scatter symbols on the reels – you’ll need to land all of the scatters of either type to activate their corresponding feature, and there’s also a super bonus available should both sets land simultaneously.

Raid Free Spins

When the Raid Free Spins are activated, the playfield will expand with a new 4×5 reel set in the centre of the screen where new Thug and Boss symbols can land. Additionally, two five-high reels will be shown to the left and right of the playfield, as well as a four-position row located directly underneath. It’s a rather elaborate setup that should please Nolimit City fans who weren’t impressed with the typical 243-way layout of the base game!

Although the paytable describes this feature as a ‘free spins’ bonus, it’s actually a three-spin feature meaning that you’ll need to land new thug or boss symbols on every spin to keep your lives counter topped up. If three consecutive spins go by with no new symbols landing on the playfield, the Raid Free Spins will end.

About those new symbols – the thugs can be worth anywhere from 1x to 25x the total bet, whilst the hunters boost the value of thug wins with multipliers of up to 12x. Bosses, meanwhile, have initial values of between 1x and 5x but also act as special symbols similar to the collector, payer, and sniper symbols from the Money Train/Money Cart series of slots.

Bosses can be killed by hunters – defeat all three bosses, and your remaining spins will be upgraded to the more generous Showdown Spins.

Mexican Standoff

Landing the secondary scatter symbols present on reels one and five will trigger a Mexican Standoff – but only if they happen to appear on the same row! When that occurs, the scatter symbols will transform into 6x multiplier wilds, and a free re-spin will be awarded for that row only.

Landing regular scatter symbols during a Mexican Standoff will award an additional re-spin where the scatter becomes an additional sticky wild with another 6x multiplier.

Showdown Free Spins

The showdown spins are another three-spin feature but use an alternative reel layout compared to the Raid Free Spins. The main reel area will transform into a 5×5 configuration with a super-boss in the centre position. Twelve thugs will be positioned around the boss in a diamond formation.

The super-boss can behave like any of the regular bosses from the Raid Free Spins during each round, but his multiplier and payout values are significantly higher during this mode.

Nolimit Bonus Buy

If you can access the feature buy menu, the following options are available.

  • The Mexican Standoff can be purchased for 136x the bet.
  • Raid Spins can be purchased for 100x the bet.
  • Showdown Spins can be purchased for 850x the bet.
  • The Lucky Draw option can be purchased for 175x the bet.

Pros

  • Many features to discover and explore.
  • The enormous maximum jackpot prize of 52,310x the total bet.
  • The showdown free spins feature is truly special and a marked improvement over the regular bonus round.

Cons

  • The requirements for activating the better features are quite strict, so don’t expect to see them frequently.

Final Thoughts

Remember at the start of this review when I mentioned that I was pleased to see a Nolimit City game with a more traditional reel setup? That comment certainly applies to the base game of Bounty Hunters, but the bonus rounds are all just as complex and convoluted as any other Nolimit City machine. Am I disappointed by that? Absolutely not! Bonus rounds are the perfect place to experiment with those weird and wonderful reel configurations, as that’s exactly where players expect to find such things. Moreover, as far as I’m concerned, the fact that you can win more than 50,000x your bet is reason enough to give this machine a try all by itself!
