Buildin’ Bucks (Play'n Go) Slot Demo & Review

Who knew that while waiting for the next rainbow to appear, leprechauns spend their time building houses? That’s what Play’n Go leads us to believe in Buildin’ Bucks, a slot featuring three lucky hard hat-wearing leprechauns, the Woody Elf, Fairy Mary, and Grout Bricky, who are striving to build themselves some lovely new homes to live in. As you’ll see throughout this review, that building malarky can prove quite lucrative for players too, but before I get into the reasons why, let’s sort out the basics. Buildin’ Bucks is a 5×3 slot with 243 ways to win, a 96.20% RTP, and a 5,000x the stake top payout.

During the base game, it is possible to win spins on a wheel above the reels that can reward one of the three jackpots worth up to 100x the stake or one of three variations of a free spins bonus. They’re essentially the same bonus but with a different starting level of frames. There’s Wood, Brick, and Gold, and the leprechauns start by placing frames around positions on the reels, which can upgrade through each material. At the end of the bonus, you’re paid a stake multiplier for each position according to the material and its payout range. Aside from that, there is a free spins bonus that’s similar to those bonus games, although it’s more straightforward to upgrade the frames – as you’ll find out later.

Fancy yourself as a handyman/woman and want to join in the fun with these three leprechauns? Then power up the Buildin’ Bucks slot demo below.

Like many other slot developers, Play’n Go often releases slots with a leprechaun theme, which is somewhat lazy, in my opinion. Can’t we come up with something more original, guys? I guess at least this title has a building side angle. Other slots from the developer with leprechauns as the primary focus include Shamrock Miner, a 12 payline slot with a money collect feature, and Leprechaun Goes Wild, a 20 payline slot with a free spins bonus featuring sticky wilds.

Speaking of wilds, these also help form winning combinations on Buildin’ Bucks. They substitute for all regular symbols when combos are possible and also offer the joint top payout alongside Fairy Mary,  with 6x the stake on offer for five of either across a payline. Grout Bricky returns up to 3.75x, the Woody Elf is worth a maximum of 2x, and the Bricks and Wood symbols pay up to 1.75x. Finally, we hit the lower pays, where the Ace and King return 0.75x for five in a line, and the Queen and Jack top out at 0.5x

The usual betting range for a Play’n Go slot can be found on Buildin’ Bucks, and if you’re unfamiliar with what this is, you’ll be able to stake from a low of €0.20 a spin, whilst the highest possible bet on the game reaches €100.

Buildin’ Bucks is a 5-reel and 3-row slot that features 243 ways to win, meaning you’ll not have to worry about paylines. Winning combos form whenever three or more symbols of the same type land on consecutive reels starting from the leftmost reel.

Prize Wheel

Sat on top of the reels is a Prize Wheel that continually spins as you spin away on the main reels. It stops on random prizes, and should a Clover scatter symbol land on the third reel on the same spin, you receive that prize. Those prizes are either one of three fixed jackpots or a re-pins bonus for one of the slot’s main characters. The jackpots you can win are the Minor (30x the stake), Major (50x), or Grand (100x).

Character Bonus Spins

If you win one of the Character Re-Spins modes, you receive 3 re-spins of the reels. Before they start, three of the character’s frames are randomly added to positions on the reels. Those frames will be Wood, Brick, or Gold, depending on the character. When Clover scatters land during the spins, they also add frames to their positions. If they land on positions with a frame, they’ll add a frame to an unframed position instead.

If all positions on the reels are framed, each new Clover scatter will now upgrade them to the next frame level (Brick/Gold etc). At the end of the feature, you receive a payout for each of the frames on the reels in the following ranges:

  • Wood: 2x – 5x
  • Brick: 6x – 12.5x
  • Gold: 15x – 25x

The building frames return for the free spins bonus, although the process works differently this time. Want to know how? Then I’ve got you covered, as I explain all you need to know in the section below.

Free Spins Feature

In return for 3, 4, or 5 triggering scatter symbols, you’ll receive 6 free spins with 3 initial wooden frames, 4 brick frames, or 5 gold frames, respectively. You can win an additional 1, 3, or 5 spins each time a scatter lands on the middle reel – it gives you a spin on the wheel above the reels to guarantee the aforementioned number of spins.

Scatter symbols create new frames in unframed positions or upgrade them in positions that already have them. Upgrades go from Wood to Brick and to Gold. If they land on gold frames, the scatter creates another frame in another position or upgrades another. If all positions are upgraded to gold, you’re awarded 100x the stake each time a scatter lands. At the end of the feature, you’re awarded payouts for each framed position depending on the level of the frame and their payout ranges.

  • Wood: 2x – 5x
  • Brick: 6x – 12.5x
  • Gold: 15x – 25x

Pros

  • Free spins galore via character bonus games and a main free spins bonus.

Cons

  • Adjustable RTPs. The top RTP is 96.20%, but casinos can offer versions as low as 84.20%

Buildin' Bucks Slot Review Final Thoughts

I cannot fault the design of the Buildin’ Bucks slot, as it looks fantastic. The graphics are delivered in high definition, and you’re often treated to well-put-together animations of the three main leprechaun characters. What I’ve found in the past, however, is that Play’n Go often flatters to deceive. Their slots look great but can, on occasion, offer poor gameplay. I had a similar feeling when I fired up Buildin' Bucks; it’s one of those that sounds and looks good on paper but gets tiresome after a while when playing.
