I’m not entirely sure what the relevance of the “168” in the title might be, as this is a 1,024 payway machine with a 95.74% RTP and a maximum win of 19,946x the total stake.
Red Tiger has incorporated several special features into Cai Shen 168, starting with “Cai Shen Wilds”, which are valuable stacked wild symbols that appear on the middle three reels only. The Cai Shen Wilds have a couple more tricks up their sleeve, too, as they will sometimes appear with multipliers and can even transform adjacent symbols into even more wilds to boost your winnings even further. The headline feature is a free spin bonus round that adds even more multipliers into the mix, once again increasing your odds of hitting a monster of a win.

Cai Shen 168 Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
We’ve looked at several slots similar to this one recently here at Demoslot, such as Eastern Emeralds Megaways and Dragon Boat 2. Whilst both of those were fun games, I just don’t find this style of slot particularly appealing despite being as big a fan of Eastern culture as the next person. However, this game looks fantastic, and the backgrounds and symbols were obviously drawn by talented artists over at Red Tiger. I think I may even be in the minority here, as the theme must be popular with a decent number of players, considering how many similar-looking games are created by slot developers each year.
I’m frequently frustrated by the paytables included in Red Tiger’s games, not least because their help pages always tell you to calculate your winnings according to the number of paylines – even in a game such as this which does not use traditional paylines! With a bit of experimentation, I was able to determine that the numbers stated are actually bet multiples – a lot of confusion could have been avoided if Red Tiger would say that at the bottom of the table! The highest paying symbol looks to be a statue of a big cat and has a payout of 5x your bet for a full payway of five-of-a-kind, whilst the golden coins take the second-place spot at 2.5x the total stake for all five symbols. The gold ring is worth 2x your bet for a complete payline, with the final spot of the high-paying section going to a lucky red envelope with a return of 1.5x for all five symbols. The low-paying section contains five royals with five of a kind payouts ranging from 0.4x to 1x the total stake.
The free-play version of Cai Shen 168 only allows wagers of between €0.10 and €4.00 per spin, which seems like a very small range for a top-tier game. I suspect the game may allow larger bets when playing for real money, but that is only speculation.
Base Game & Modifiers
Cai Shen 168 features five reels of four rows each, along with 1,024 payways. Any combination of three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels starting from the left will result in a win.
Cai Shen Wilds
The base game does not include any modifiers to speak of, but these special symbols are worthy of a mention here! The Cai Shen wilds only appear on the middle three reels, but each one that lands will expand randomly onto several adjacent positions, including those on the first and last reels. The Cai Shen wilds can also appear with a multiplier.
Cai Shen 168 Slot Bonus Features
Scatter symbols appear on reels one, three, and five only, and you will need to hit all three simultaneously to trigger the free spin bonus round. The number of spins you will receive is decided randomly at the beginning of the feature.
Free Spins
After triggering the free spins feature, the game asks you to click on all three scatter symbols to reveal the number of spins you have won, along with the multiplier that will be applied to the Cai Shen wilds for the duration of the feature. I found that seven free spins with a 5x multiplier were the most common values awarded by this feature, but I did receive 10 free spins with a 10x multiplier on one occasion.
I only managed to trigger this feature a handful of times whilst testing this game, as it took several hundred spins to hit the scatter symbols each time. Red Tiger doesn’t state what the odds of triggering this feature are anywhere in the game, and whilst I may just have been unlucky, I suspect that it could be a little harder to trigger a bonus in Cai Shen 168 in comparison to most other slots.
Cai Shen 168 Slot Review Final Thoughts
I certainly didn’t come close to hitting anything like the stated jackpot of nearly 20,000x my bet whilst testing this game, but I must admit that I had a lot more fun than I was initially expecting! I may not be overly keen on the theme, but I cannot fault the gameplay of Cai Shen 168.
