We all know that Pragmatic Play loves to create candy-themed slots – I’ve lost count of how many of these games I’ve tried over the years at this point, many of which have been well-produced and plenty of fun. As a result of the developer’s addiction to candy (or perhaps just because they were short of fresh ideas this month!), we now have another PP candy slot to explore – Candy Blitz. Much like similar earlier machines, this game uses the popular scatter-pay payout mechanic and employs the developer’s currently preferred jackpot cap of 10,000x the total bet.
Headline features of Candy Blitz include a multiplier reel positioned to the right of the main reels showing five random multipliers during each round. All wins that occur are automatically boosted by the value shown at the bottom of the stack, which will then drop off of the bottom, allowing the next multiplier to take effect on any subsequent combinations. The possible multipliers shown on the reel go as high as 500x, so they really can make a huge difference to your results. Four or more scatters will trigger the free spins feature with 10-14 spins, a mode which also benefits from increased multipliers on the extra reel. The free spins can be purchased instantly from the base game by paying 100x the current stake.

Candy Blitz Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
When I said that Pragmatic Play loves creating candy-themed slots, I certainly wasn’t kidding! Previous examples include Candy Stars and Candy Village, but they are far from the only slot developer who seems to have a bit of a fascination with this style of game. As fun as many of these titles are, I do think it’s a bit of an issue when one developer produces an endless stream of very similar-looking games – it’s really quite difficult to tell this machine apart from the two examples I gave above, and I’d even go as far as to say that many of the assets could well have been recycled.
On a more positive note, the most valuable symbols available in Candy Blitz are the heart-shaped candies, with a maximum return of 50x the total bet for 12 or more symbols. That’s much more than the second-placed yellow triangular candies, which only pay 10x the bet for a maximum 12+ symbol combination. The purple stars, green hexagons, and blue squares complete the high-paying row with payouts of 5x, 4x, and 3x the current stake, respectively. As for the low pays, a game like this just wouldn’t look right with boring old royal symbols, would it? Instead, Pragmatic Play has opted for… more candy! These can be differentiated by their strange shapes and muted colours but only award between 0.75x and 2.5x the total bet for a maximum of 12-30 matching symbols anywhere on the screen.
The betting range offered by Candy Blitz is even wider than other Pragmatic Play machines, with minimum/maximum permitted stakes of €0.20 and €240.00 per spin, respectively. Despite this wide range, the three-way stake selection controls give player’s a granular level of control over their total bet.
Base Game & Modifiers
The playfield utilised in Candy Blitz is relatively large compared to typical video slots but matches the size of many other scatter-pay machines – especially those produced by Pragmatic Play. We get six reels of five rows each for a total of 30 symbol positions, plus the additional multiplier reel of five symbols on the right-hand side. Wins require at least eight matching symbols anywhere on the reels, with higher payouts awarded for nine or more symbols until you reach a maximum of 12; after that point, additional symbols do not increase the game’s returns.
Multiplier Reel
The extra reel on the right of the reels holds five random multiplier symbols. All wins achieved in the game are multiplied by the value shown at the bottom of the multiplier reel. After every tumble sequence, the bottom multiplier will drop off the screen, and the remaining multipliers will fall by one position. The possible multipliers which can appear here are 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 8x, 10x, 12x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x, or 500x.
Candy Blitz Slot Bonus Features
The large playfield of Candy Blitz has another side effect – you’ll need at least four scatters to trigger a bonus round rather than the more average three. A four-scatter trigger will award you 10 free spins, whilst five or six scatters will increase this to 12 or 14 spins, respectively.
Free Spins Feature
The bonus round plays much like the base game, but one major change is that the 1x multipliers are removed from the multiplier reel during this part of the game. This guarantees that all wins will be worth twice as much as shown on the paytable, but more importantly, it also increases your chances of hitting the larger multipliers of up to 500x.
The free spins can be re-triggered with an extra 5, 8, or 10 free spins by hitting four, five, or six scatters whilst the feature is in play.
Bonus Buy
The bonus round can be triggered instantly from the base game by purchasing it for 100x the current bet. When using the bonus buy facility, the number of scatter symbols (and hence free spins awarded) is determined randomly on the triggering spin.

Final Thoughts
I’m quite a fan of Pragmatic Play’s scatter-pay games, so naturally, I was expecting to also enjoy giving Candy Blitz a try. Although the game is enjoyable, it’s quite light on features, and it won’t take players long to see everything that the machine has to offer. It’s still well worth a look, but it may not keep you entertained for as long as you might expect.
