Cannonade! Works by unlocking additional positions according to how many symbols are involved in a previous win. If you keep on hitting new winning symbols, re-spins will continue to occur until the entire reel set has been unlocked. This won’t get you to the biggest wins, but it certainly does help! The free spins bonus round is where the real money is, as a symbol removal feature will quickly eliminate all the low paying symbols while adding extra spins to your remaining total. Cannonade Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Cannonade! Isn’t quite a piracy-themed game, but the rules page does describe it as a “swashbuckling adventure”. The symbols on the reels do look as if they would have been right at home as the crew of a ship a couple of centuries earlier, though, and I imagine it would have been hazardous to be sailing the oceans around that time – I’d definitely want to have my flintlock pistol and sword to hand at all times! Many other games use a more apparent pirate-type theme, such as the Pirate Gold Age slot, but Cannonade! Feels quite unique and original to me, which is always nice to see in an online casino industry seemingly bursting at the seams with similarly themed online slots.
With up to 46,655 payways in this game, don’t expect the numbers on the paytable to be anything impressive. Instead, you’ll need to win on a large number of payways simultaneously to reach an impressive win, so keep that in mind when reviewing the information below. The ship’s captain is at the top of the list, worth 2x your current bet for a full pay way of five-of-a-kind. The female ship’s mate is next, paying just 1x your bet for all five of her symbols, whilst a male crew member is worth 0.5x for a full pay way. There is one more final high paying symbol, another crew member with scars on his face who will pay you 0.4x for a full pay way, after which there are six lower paying symbols all represented by weapons – much more interesting than playing card suits or royal symbols.
The betting range begins at €0.20 per spin, with just a handful of other wagering options before you hit the game’s maximum of €20.00 per round.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game of Cannonade! It uses a five-reel layout, with each reel having six rows. This would typically create 30 positions, but 15 of them are currently filled with blocker symbols that will only disappear as you hit winning combinations.
Win Streak Feature
Each time three or more symbols form a winning combination, the game will award you a free re-spin, removing as many blockers as you had winning symbols in the initial winning combination. Your winning symbols will become sticky as the re-spins occur, and any further matching symbols that appear during the re-spins will also become sticky, meaning that you could potentially fill the entire screen with one symbol.
Golden Bet Feature
The golden bet feature costs an additional 50% on top of the regular price per spin and adds a lot of extra scatter symbols to the reels, which should make it much easier to hit the free spins feature. The game doesn’t specify precisely how much better your odds become when using this feature, so it’s entirely your choice whether you feel it is worth spending the extra money. I would probably go for the bonus buy option instead.
Cannonade Slot Bonus Features
Hitting the free spins feature organically requires hitting scatter symbols during the base game. This is quite tricky when 15 of the positions are filled by blockers, but luckily you can land additional free spin scatter symbols during the re-spins, which will then count towards the total. Three scatter symbols will award 6 free spins, whilst four will award 9 spins, and the maximum of five scatter symbols will give you 12 free spins.
Free Spins
During this mode, landing any additional free spin scatter symbols will add one extra free spin to your remaining total, as well as removing the lowest value symbol from the reels.
If you can eliminate all six of the game’s lower-paying symbols, this bonus round will start to pay big! I doubt this will often happen on a three-scatter trigger, unfortunately, but whilst experimenting with the bonus buy feature, I frequently removed all six low-paying symbols, with some fantastic resulting wins.
Bonus Buy
There are two choices on the bonus buy menu; for 100x the regular bet, you can purchase the three-scatter bonus round, which is probably a fair price but isn’t very exciting, if I’m honest.
Then there is the 15 free spin option, which costs 500x the regular bet. This is obviously a huge amount of money, but it does award you even more free spins than it is possible to win from hitting five scatter symbols. As I mentioned above, I had some great results from playing with this facility; I would rarely recommend purchasing a bonus that costs as much as this one, but on this game, it may just be worth it.
Cannonade Slot Review Final Thoughts
I’m not 100% convinced by the look of Cannonade! – the visuals seem a little bit poor by Yggdrasil’s standards. What isn’t poor, however, is the gameplay and the winnings! This game is sure to keep you returning for just one more feature, and the unlocking re-spins in the base game are also an exciting aspect that ensures it never becomes dull or monotonous.
