Canoe Trip (Blueprint) Slot Demo & Review

Am I the only one who finds the title of this game slightly amusing? The last game I looked at was unusually dark and featured a Jack the Ripper theme. Blueprint Gaming’s slot Canoe Trip, on the other hand, is as bright and colourful as they come, and themes don’t get much more friendly and wholesome than a family trip down the river. It’s great that there is such a diverse landscape of games available in the online casino industry, but honestly… Canoe Trip? I’m really not sure who this one is supposed to appeal to! It’s a ten-pay line game with a 95% RTP and a 50,000x winning cap, but it also looks like a simple clone of earlier Blueprint slots, as far as I can tell.

The feature set is relatively simple; a single main bonus round that awards between 10 and 20 free spins depending on the number of trigger scatters and a cash collect feature that is only active during that bonus round. This means that the cash prizes tacked on to symbols in the base game are frustratingly useless but also enticingly large when you make it to the bonus round. The feature can also be re-triggered up to three times, with 15 extra spins at a 10x multiplier awarded on the third occasion.

If this game’s theme appeals to you, or perhaps you are a fan of Blueprint Gaming’s output, then why not try our free demo slot of Canoe Trip? It’s available to play below.

Paytable For The Canoe Trip Slot
Canoe Trip slot paytable

Well, I looked at our previous Blueprint Gaming reviews, such as Genie Jackpots Big Spin Frenzy and 5 Pots’o’Riches but failed to find any direct clones of this machine. I’m sure that just like me though that you’ll recognise this format as a reskin of previous games such as Fishin Frenzy and the Big Bass bonanza series of slots. That doesn’t mean that Canoe Trip is a bad game, of course, and cloning older games for today’s audience has been a common tactic of online slot developers ever since the launch of the first online casino. My only issue here is that the Canoe Trip theme is so tame and non-descript that I struggle to think precisely what type of player this machine is targeting. However, I think it’s safe to say I am not the target audience!

Looking at the paytable, it’s evident that the ten-pay line setup has allowed Blueprint a decent amount of latitude here. There are two top-paying symbols, our friendly looking backpacker friend and his shady looking paddle boat, both of which will pay you 200x your bet for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind. However, I guess you do not get the paddles with the boat, as those are next on the paytable and have a return of 100x for all five symbols. A life-preserver jacket and a stick of bread on a spit(???) are both worth 50x the current spin price for a full pay way, whilst the last high-paying symbol is a group of tents worth 20x for five-of-a-kind. The wild symbol will pay you 200x, just as the highest-paying regular symbols, for a complete pay line, whilst the scatter symbols have no cash value and award free spins whenever three or more land on the reels.

The betting range of €0.10 to €10.00 per spin feels familiar and has become common to most of Blueprint’s output in recent months. Whilst some players may lament the lack of an option to bet more than €10.00 per spin, I can’t imagine the number of such players is very high. Apologies if you are such a player that enjoys betting more than this!

Base Game & Modifiers

You Can Win Up To 50,000x Your Stake In The Canoe Trip Online Slot From Provider Blueprint Gaming
Canoe Trip slot base game

The base game of Canoe Trip offers few surprises; it’s a standard five reel, three row setup that has ten fixed paylines in a common layout. The highest-paying symbols will award you a small prize for hitting two or more of them on adjacent reels starting from the left, whilst everything else requires at least three matching symbols before winnings are paid.

There are no modifiers or base game features included this time around, and with no bonus buy facility in sight, you have no choice but to spin your way to a bonus round if you want to have a chance at hitting the biggest wins. With this in mind, let’s move on!

Canoe Trip Slot Bonus Features

Three Or More Scatter Symbols Are Needed To Land In View To Trigger The Free Spins Feature On The Canoe Trip Video Slot

Hitting three scatter symbols anywhere on the reels will award 10 free spins in the much more profitable bonus round area of the game, whilst hitting four or five will award 15 or 20 free spins, respectively.

Free Spins

During this mode, any appearance of the friendly backpacker will result in him wandering off to collect all of the cash symbols visible on the reels. These cash symbols can have prizes of 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, or 2,000x, although I never saw anything larger than 20x during the bonus round whilst I was testing the game.

For every four appearances of the friendly backpacker, additional spins will be added to your remaining counter. After the first four appearances, ten additional games will be awarded a 2x multiplier. After another four, ten more free spins will be added to your remaining total – this time with a 4x multiplier. If you fill the meter to the end with 12 symbols, the game will reward you with 15 more spins at a 10x multiplier.

Making your way to the first stop on the meter feels relatively easy but getting any further than this seems much more difficult. Out of roughly a dozen entries into the bonus round, I only managed to reach the second re-trigger stage on one occasion.
