Captain Glum Pirate Hunter Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Pirates seem to be returning as a fashionable theme amongst online slot developers in recent months… you wait months for a new pirate-themed online, and then half a dozen spring up at once! A few recent additions to our review library include Pirates Quest, Boom Pirates, and Pirate Golden Age, although this game has a distinctly different look and feel to all of them. As with most Play’N’Go slots, Captain Glum is undeniably a great-looking and well-presented game – it’s targeted mainly at the UK market, so there is no bonus buy feature included. That may be slightly disappointing if you are one of the lucky players who aren’t prohibited from using such features, but it’s really the only negative worthy of a mention here.
The paytable might be a bigger disappointment to some – the highest-paying symbols are the wild and captain, but both are only worth 5x the total bet for a full payway of five of a kind. The captain’s female mate will pay you 2.4x for all five of her symbols, whilst two ships offer returns of either 1.2x or 1x for a complete pay way. The low pays are represented by the four playing card suits, and all share equal returns of 0.6x for all five symbols, and that’s everything – it doesn’t seem like very much, does it?
As for the betting range, Play’N’Go has included a minimum wager of just €0.05 per spin, which might be useful if you only have a small bankroll at your disposal. At the other end of the spectrum, the minimum bet of €100.00 per round is sure to be enough to cater for the high rollers in the crowd.
Base Game & Modifiers
During regular play, Captain Glum utilises a standard 5×3 reel set. You’ll notice some clouds positioned at the top and bottom of the playfield – these can be uncovered during the free spin mode, adding two new rows to the reels. The game doesn’t state how many payways are available in each mode, but any line of matching symbols connected horizontally or at the corners will result in a win. To put it another way, all symbols need to be adjacent within one position, both horizontally and vertically.
Captains Due
On every base game spin, one wild symbol is guaranteed to be positioned somewhere on the playfield. If one or two scatters land during a spin, the wild has the chance to move to one of their positions, leaving additional wild symbols behind it as it moves.

Final Thoughts
Captain Glum is a decent release by Play’N’Go, although I can’t see it holding players' interest over the long term. The base game doesn’t have a huge amount of potential, and the lack of a bonus buy feature means you won’t be able to skip to the more interesting free spins mode – even if such features are allowed in your country. Still worth a look, though.
