Caribbean Stud Poker Online Free (Habanero) Slot Demo & Review

Stud can refer to a wide number of poker games where each player receives a mixture of face-down and face-up cards that are dealt over several betting rounds. The games share another common trait in that they tend to be non-positional, which means that the player who will bet first at each betting round is likely to change throughout the course of each hand. The table game Caribbean Stud Poker borrows several elements from Stud Poker to build a modern casino game which offers an RTP of 97.48% alongside a maximum win of 500x your total bet paid for a Royal Flush.

Although Caribbean Stud has yet to match the popularity of established classics such as Blackjack and Baccarat, that hasn’t stopped even smaller developers such as Habanero from releasing their take on the game. And why not? This extremely enjoyable casino game offers an attractive top win – far in excess of anything you can hit when playing Blackjack. In addition, slots players have long used the small jackpots available in table games as a source of derision, so it’s fantastic to finally see one come along that breaks the mould in this regard.

Even if you lack previous experience with existing Stud Poker games, don’t let this stop you from trying your luck on free Caribbean Stud Poker – we have a demo of the game available to play below.

Visually, Habanero’s table games can be a mixed bag. Some of them look fantastic – take their version of Baccarat, for example. On the other hand, the developer’s take on Three Card Poker looks extremely low resolution, perhaps indicating that they have never updated its assets since the days of Adobe Flash. Caribbean Stud sits somewhere in between – the table is certainly sharper, but something about the fonts and margins looks slightly ‘off’ to my eyes. It’s not a huge issue, but it certainly looks better – at least the payouts on offer are much larger than those available in the classics such as Blackjack and Roulette!

On that note, this seems like the perfect time to take a look at exactly what the payouts available in Habanero’s Caribbean Stud are. The ordering of hands will be instantly familiar to experienced poker players, as it’s the same as any other game which uses five-card poker hands. That means that a Royal Flush is the best possible hand, offering a return of 500/1 – far ahead of the next best- a Straight Flush worth just 50/1 on your money. A four-of-a-kind will get you 20/1, followed by the full house at 7/1, flush at 5/1, straight at 4/1, three-of-a-kind at 3/1, and two pairs at 2/1. Note that the dealer needs to qualify for these payouts to be achieved – see the next section for details on what that means, but if it does not occur, you will only be paid even money.

How To Play Caribbean Stud Poker

Each round begins with you placing an ante bet, after which you will be dealt five cards face-up on the table. At the same time, the dealer will be dealt four cards face down plus an additional card which you are permitted to see. You may now choose to fold, causing you to lose your ante bet, or make a raise of twice your initial buy-in. If you make the raise, the dealer will reveal his four face-down cards. In order to qualify for the round, the dealer needs to have at least King High or better. If he does not, you will be paid even money on your ante bet.

Staking Options

You never know what to expect with Habanero’s table games regarding the permitted betting ranges! This time around, bets are placed using casino chips with values ranging between €1 and €500. However, before you place your bet, remember that you’ll need to make a second bet of twice the value to reach the end of the round. Therefore, placing an ante bet of €1 requires you to bet a total of €3 over the course of that round, whilst playing the £500 maximum increases this to an eyewatering €1,500!

Pros

  • I love that this is a table game with a jackpot equal to what you can win from a full-on slot such as NetEnt’s Starburst!
  • The 97.48% RTP may not be all that impressive compared to other table games, but it’s far more than the average of 96% for slots.
  • A wide range of prizes is available for every type of poker hand.

Cons

  • Rounds only consist of a single betting stage – some players may find this too simplistic.
  • The graphics and presentation could be better – there’s no close button on the information page, for example, forcing you to reload after viewing it.

Final Thoughts

I’ve never really been into Stud Poker, despite trying my best to enjoy the seven-card variant more than once during the past decade. Conversely, I really enjoyed this table game – rounds are fast-paced, easy to pick up and offer the highest prizes I have seen from any table game. Fans of poker and table games alike should get a kick out of Caribbean Stud.
