Cash Defense (Print Studios) Slot Demo & Review

Game provider Print Studios are based out of Malta, which, although now an independent republic, is still part of the British Commonwealth. As such, could somebody kindly let them know that the word ‘Defence’ is spelt with a ‘C’? Because the fact that Microsoft Word will underline ‘Defense’ in red every time I write it for the duration of this review is already triggering me. I’ll assume that you’re now back from writing your angry e-mail to Print Studios regarding their spelling habits and are now ready to hear about the vital statistics of Cash Defense. Great stuff! The game includes 26 paylines, offers an RTP of between 96.29% and 97.33% depending on the game mod used, and boasts an impressive maximum win of 20,000x bet.

Cash Defense brings back one of the best features of Print’s previous Huntress Wild Vengeance online slot – the ‘SuperSpinner’! These quirky little things appear between the regular reels and multiply the value of any winning pay line that intersects with them. There are also two ‘tower defense’ features – the mini version is triggered by landing a specific tower symbol that only appears on reel five, whilst the ‘Grand TD Bonus’ requires a full complement of three scatter symbols to activate. Both tower defense features are accessible from a bonus buy menu and a ‘scatter boost’ bonus bet, which doubles your odds of triggering one of these features during regular play.

I’ve been trying to defend my castle from pesky invaders for an hour or two now, with little success. Perhaps you would have more luck if you tried? Find out with our free demo slot of Cash Defense, available to play below! (Spoiler alert: your castles getting wrecked.)

Cash Defense Slot Paytable
Cash Defense slot paytable

Living in a castle back in the day was no joke – it’s often said that people today are far better off living in a ‘box in the sky’ one-bedroom apartment than a king would have been in a freezing cold castle at any time before the 20th century. That may be true, but it still wouldn’t stop me from wanting to defend my castle! Cash Defense isn’t the first online slot to run with this idea – Evoplay released a similar game called Collapsed Castle a while back, and then there’s the biggie – Big Time Gaming’s spooky Castle of Terror! Print Studios have their work cut out to compete with that one, so how does the paytable look?

The top half of the paytable consists of six high-paying character symbols, all of whom have been given a name. First, there’s Mentarch, offering a return of 50x the current stake for a full payline of five of a kind, followed by Psykrona at 25x, Scythra at 12.5x, and Mantisa at 10x. Those names are pretty badass, right? I guess the guys over at Print must have run out of ideas after they got through the first four, as the last two are called Alan and Steve! These two rather more plainly named individuals offer payouts of 7x and 6x, respectively, for all five symbols, after which we have four low-paying attacking symbols – also with interesting names! Rhinax will get you 3x your bet for a full payline, followed by Bublax at 2.5x, Hornax at 2x, and finally, Dropax at 1.5x. At the bottom of the paytable, the bonus scatter symbols get a brief mention – that’s definitely a good thing, as it offers the best payout of all at 100x the total bet for all five symbols.

As for the betting range, the minimum/maximum bets have been set at €0.20 and €20.00, respectively, with plenty of intermediate options between the two extremes. This should ensure that players of all sized budgets can enjoy this game for real money if they wish t do so.

Base Game & Modifiers

Cash Defense Slot Base Game

The basic gameplay of Cash Defense doesn’t differ too much from the typical video slot template – certainly not in comparison to the much more interesting Tower Defense bonus rounds, anyway. The ‘Super spinners’ are an interesting quirk, however, but before we get there, let’s highlight the basics – there are five reels with four rows each, spanned by a total of 26 paylines. In addition, all symbols are stacked on the reels, making it much easier to hit a winning line.

Super Spinners

Super spinners are the strange shapes found between the symbols on the reels. Each of these has a multiplier assigned to it at the start of every game round, and any winning paylines that pass through a Super Spinner will have its value applied to them. Should a payline pass through multiple spinners, their multipliers are applied independently.

Cash Defense Slot Bonus Features

Cash Defense Slot Bonus Feature
Cash Defense slot bonus feature

There are two so-called Tower Defense features in Cash Defense – the ‘Mini TD’ feature only requires a single special symbol on reel five to activate, whilst three of the main bonus scatters are needed to trigger the ‘Grand TD’ bonus.

Tower Defense Features

Each of the Tower Defense bonus rounds comes in two parts:

  • Mini TD Feature

Part One: Raiders will try to pass your defensive towers to attack your castle. A single wave of 10 enemies will do their best to get around your craftily constructed curved road – fortunately, they’re far too dumb to take the obvious shortcut straight along the top of the map!

At the end of the enemy wave, a single bonus enemy will try to make his way around the curve – if you take him out with your towers, part two will be replaced with the Grand TD Feature instead.

Part Two: A single ‘jumbo spin’ is awarded a huge special symbol covering reels two and three. The more enemies are destroyed during part one, the more symbols are included in the special symbol, and the higher your payout will likely be.

  • Grand TD Feature

Part One: This is a more complete version of the first part of the Mini-TD bonus, sporting a larger map, more enemies, and more potential for big wins! You get to choose your defensive tower configuration this time around, and you’ll have up to 70 potential enemies trying to make their way through to your castle,

Part Two: The Grand TD feature awards three of the special ‘jumbo spins’ for its part two, which now includes an enlarged special symbol covering the entirety of the middle three reels. During part one, you’ll have the chance to take out up to 50 super-spinner-style enemies. For every one of these successfully eliminated, a randomly chosen super spinner will have its value increased by 1x before every spin.

Bonus Buy

The bonus bet menu includes three options – the first is a simple bonus bet, whilst the second and third allow you instant access to the games two tower defense features:

  • Scatter Boost Feature Bet: 1.5x Current Stake (96.64% RTP)
  • Mini TD Feature Bet: 28.9x Current Stake (96.83% RTP)
  • Grand TD Feature Bet: 94x Current Stake (97.33% RTP)

For reference, the default RTP is 96.29%.

Pros

  • The tower defense features are pretty cool – especially the Grand TD bonus.
  • Superspinners have a lot of potential, even during the base game.
  • Bonus buy options are reasonably priced.

Cons

  • Defending your castle during the Mini TD bonus is very difficult – I barely managed to take out any enemies at all with some of the lesser tower configurations!
  • Alan & Steve deserved cooler names! Protest for Alan & Steve!

Cash Defense Slot Review Final Thoughts

All joking aside, there are some nice ideas in Cash Defense, but the Mini TD bonus is a bit of a let-down – I would have personally allocated all of the RTP to a single super bonus round. The super spinners have lots of potential, though, and the huge jackpot cap of 20,000x makes this one well worth a look.
