Game Overview

Boy, I love slots that bring back memories. I’m probably showing my age, but before Woody Harrelson was a big-time Hollywood star, he started out in a hugely successful sitcom alongside Ted Dansen called Cheers (you must admit that’s an excellent name for a pub/bar). I was in my early teens at the time, and I recall waiting up every Friday night (I believe) to watch the latest episode. Woody was a bartender who didn’t have too much between the ears in Cheers, a bar that never seemed to have many punters aside from a handful of regulars. You’re reacquainted with most of those as you spin the reels of this exclusive branded slot of that sitcom from Atlantic Digital, which has a 3×3 reel configuration, a 94.11% RTP, and a 5,000x maximum win.

What I find clever and mildly amusing is the fact the online slot is designed as if it were in the Cheers bar. As this is an 80s show, that means a classic one-armed bandit that you’d expect doesn’t have many bonus features, if any at all. However, that’s far from the case, as this classic-style slot has more than you’ll find on most modern titles. In fact, there are 9 of them in total, which is far too many to go through here – you’ll learn about those in the bonus section of this review. Each is themed around one of the nine main characters that made the show what it is.

You’d imagine it’d take quite a long time and probably a fair bit of cash to unlock each of those bonuses – unless you’re winning, of course. However, you could lessen the risk by playing the free Cheers slot demo below instead.

Cheers Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Cheers Slot Paytable
Cheers slot paytable

There are not too many TV-themed gambling games to choose from, as most branded slots are themed on movies or music bands, but there are a handful of other free play slots you can enjoy in this genre here on our website. Playtech offers The Walking Dead slot, Microgaming has Game of Thrones, and then there’s a Flintstones demo slot from Blueprint Gaming. All three are great slots in their own right, so make sure you check them out once you’re done with our slot review of Cheers today.

As we move on, the next step is to look at the paytable. The best single payout comes from the Red Sevens, which returns 5x for three in a row, which is followed by the 2x offered by the Bar and 1x by the Bell. Classic fruit symbols represent the low pays, and these are 0.6x for three Blueberries on a payline, 0.5x for Watermelons, 0.4x for Oranges, and 0.3x for Cherries.

Those looking to spin the reels on the Cheers slot for real money have multiple staking options. These start at a budget friendly €0.10 a spin and max out at a staggering €500 a press.

Cheers Slot Base Game

The base game doesn’t offer much besides wilds, which, as you’ll find out, are the key to a host of bonuses. Forming wins on this 3×3 slot requires three matching symbols to land across one of the 17 paylines.

Cheers Slot Bonus Features

You better make yourself comfortable for this section, as there’s a lot to get through. So, grab yourself a seat and let’s take a look at what bonus features are on offer in the Cheers slot.

Cheers Wild Symbol, Sticky Wild Respins, And 9 Bonuses

The Wild symbol is the Cheers logo, and it substitutes for all regular symbols and can only land on the middle reel. However, if it lands and creates a winning combination, you receive a respin of the reels, which could trigger one of nine bonuses. Before the respin starts, a regular symbol is randomly chosen, and should that symbol form a winning combination by landing on reels one and three (the wild is on the middle reel), you’ll win a spin on the Boston Bonus Wheel to determine which bonus you receive. Before I get into those bonus games, there are a couple of other features I want to talk about first.

Hold & Hit

The first is a Hold & Hit bonus that triggers if the respin reveals one of the randomly selected symbols on either reel, but not two. This feature allows you to have another chance at triggering the Boston Bonus Wheel by holding the reel with the wild and the other with that symbol and spinning the remaining reel. The catch is that it costs you:

  • For 10x your current stake, you can spin with a 25% of triggering the wheel.
  • For 20x, that chance increases to 50%.
  • For 30x, you have a 75% chance of triggering one of the bonuses.

Bonus Gamble

Once you’ve received a bonus from the Boston Bonus Wheel, you can collect it or gamble it for the next highest-paying bonus game. If you win, you can continue to gamble or collect. If you lose, you’re given the bonus below your current one and cannot gamble any further.

Boston Bonus Wheel Bonuses

Now, on to the actual bonus games the Boston Bonus Wheel can reward you:

  • Woody’s Wheel of Wonder: This is the only bonus you cannot win directly from the reel, as it’s only rewarded to anyone who gambles the Cliff’s Cards bonus and loses. You receive a spin on a wheel that rewards a random cash prize up to 20x the stake or entry into either of the Frasier’s Free Spins or Norm’s Enormous Jackpots bonus games. This bonus pays 9.44x the stake on average.
  • Cliff’s Cards: This is a picking game that rewards a prize when you reveal three identical symbols. You can win cash prizes up to 20x the stake or the Frasier’s Free Spins or Norm’s Enormous Jackpots bonus games. This bonus pays 14.11x the stake on average.
  • Coach’s Cold Ones: Pick one of three positions to reveal a prize, which could be a cash prize up to 20x or the Frasier’s Free Spins or Norm’s Enormous Jackpots bonus games. This bonus pays an average of 23.56x the stake.
  • Rebecca’s Rewards: Another picking game, you choose 3 from 25 positions to receive cash prizes of up to 20x the stake, upgrades that increase the prizes up to 30x, 50x, or 100x, or the Frasier’s Free Spins or Norm’s Enormous Jackpots bonus games. This bonus pays 28.27x the stake on average.
  • Carla’s Crazy Choice: You receive 3 picks from 24 and can win cash prizes of up to 50x the stake, additional picks, the Frasier’s Free Spins or Norm’s Enormous Jackpots bonus games. This bonus pays 32.94x the stake on average.
  • Diane’s Destiny: This is a trail pick game that gives you 4 picks to reveal +1, +2, or +3 move symbols, a collect icon, or the Frasier’s Free Spins or Norm’s Enormous Jackpots bonus games. Moves progress you through the trail with each section having cash prizes of up to 100x the stake. This bonus pays 37.73x the stake on average.
  • Sam’s Super Spins: You’ve guessed it, this is another picking game. This time, you continue to pick until a COLLECT symbol is revealed. Picks can also reveal SPIn, which delivers a cash prize of up to 100x or the Frasier’s Free Spins or Norm’s Enormous Jackpots bonus games. This bonus pays 47.08x the stake on average.
  • Frasier’s Free Spins: This is 10 free spins of the base game reels that pay out an average of 56.56x the stake.
  • Norm’s Enormous Jackpots: Players continue picking until three of one of the Mini (50x), Major (200x), or Mega (1,000x) jackpot symbols are revealed. This bonus pays 94.26x on average.

Bonus Buy

In the same order as the bonuses above, you can purchase the nine bonus games for 10x, 15x, 25x, 30x, 35x, 40x, 50x, 60x, or 100x the stake, respectively. Alternatively, for 50x, you can buy a random bonus game.

Pros

  • A cracking theme of an iconic television show.
  • The graphics and presentation are top-notch.
  • 9 bonus games!

Cons

  • Most of the bonuses are boring picking games.
  • The RTP is low.

Cheers Slot Review Final Thoughts

I love the theme, I love that there are so many bonus games, and the presentation is fantastic. However, what I don’t like is the fact most of the bonuses are simple picking games that are light on entertainment value. Still, whether you’re a fan of the Cheers TV show or not, this is an excellent title from Light & Wonder/Atlantic Digital that I suggest everyone try out.
