Chicken Drop Slot (Pragmatic Play) Slot Demo & Review

As someone who reviews online slots, it’s always nice to be handed a Pragmatic Play game to investigate. Why? The documentation provided with these games is absolutely first-class, with all of the relevant information quickly accessible in exactly the spot where you would expect to find it. These advantages don’t just benefit reviewers, however – I suspect that everybody who likes to play a lot of slots would agree with me regarding the first-class presentation of Pragmatic Play’s games. A quick browse through the paytable of Chicken Drop teaches you that this is a grid slot with 49 positions, has a 96.50% RTP, and a maximum win of 5,000x your bet. You wouldn’t believe how difficult getting those three simple details can sometimes be!

Alas, those numbers alone aren’t enough to make a great slot, of course! Chicken Drop offers a so-called “progressive feature”, meaning that each winning combination that lands on the reels will create larger symbols and bigger multipliers on the next set of tumbling symbols. There’s also a free spin feature awarding between 10 and 20 spins depending on the number of triggering scatters, and you can also opt to buy those free spins if you wish.

You may be surprised to learn just how many games there are with “chicken” in the title in the online casino marketplace! Chicken Chase is another Pragmatic Play production, which makes you wonder what it is with these guys and chickens! That’s not to say they are the only one, of course – there have been dozens of slot releases where chickens have been at the front-and-centre of the action, and many more based around farms where chickens played a minor part in proceedings. Why? I have no idea! But it’s definitely a fun concept!

And finally, the moment of truth… how does it pay?! The highest-paying symbol is the strawberry which has a return of 1000x your bet for the largest combination of… ah. You need at least 37 symbols in a cluster to win this huge prize, which ensures you won’t see anything like that very often. For scale, note that the entire grid of Chicken Drop consists of just 49 positions, so we’re talking roughly ¾ of all possible positions being filled with matching symbols for the biggest wins. The blackberry takes second place, paying 500x for the maximum cluster size, whilst a corn cob will pay you 250x, the acorn and mushroom are both worth 100x, and the two low-paying club and heart symbols are each worth 50x for the maximum cluster of 37 or more symbols. Smaller cluster sizes pay significantly less, so it’s probably wise not to get too hung up on the headline numbers.

As for the betting range, there’s no surprise here – Pragmatic Play is strangely consistent in this regard, and you’ll find their typical €0.20 minimum and €100.00 maximum bets both implemented in Chicken Drop.

Base Game & Modifiers

Chicken Drop Slot Base Game

Grid slots play quite differently from normal online slots, especially when cluster-pays are involved, as is the case here. Chicken Drop uses a 7×7 grid for a total of 49 possible positions, and the biggest wins are reserved for clusters of between 37 and 49 matching symbols. Every normal symbol requires at least five matching symbols in a cluster to award a win, whilst the chest symbol that acts as the game’s scatter will pay when four or more symbols appear anywhere on the screen.

Note that winning combinations in this game are removed from the grid immediately, meaning that you can potentially win several times from a single paid spin. Pragmatic Play refers to these as “tumbling” symbols, but you may have heard them called rolling or cascading reels/symbols elsewhere.

Progressive Feature

During the base game, any winning combination that lands on the reels will cause an upgrade to two important aspects of the game. After winning symbols are removed, an egg is guaranteed to drop onto the reels as part of the subsequent tumble. These eggs will create new winning clusters, but the process will only repeat if an “upgrade” symbol happens to land on the reels.

The upgrade symbol is represented by a watering can, and each time it appears, the next egg drop will increase to 2×2, 3×3, and so forth until it reaches a size of 6×6.

A four-leaved clover also represents a second upgrade symbol. This has a different effect to the watering can and will add a multiplier to the value of your current round. This multiplier can reach as high as 11x if you continue to win on consecutive tumbles many times, although I never got anywhere near that number during my game testing!

Chicken Drop Slot Bonus Features

Chicken Drop Slot Free Spins Feature

The bonus scatter symbol is represented by a chest in Chicken Drop, and you will need at least four of these to trigger the free spin bonus round. Hitting five or six chests will award additional free spins – either 15 or 20, respectively, instead of the usual ten.

Free Spins

During the free spin bonus round, all upgrade symbols that land on the reels will stay in effect until the end of the feature. It’s hard to say which is the most beneficial upgrade symbol in this part of the game – sure, you definitely want to get yourself a bigger multiplier so that each spin is worth more, but could the egg be even more valuable?

Each time the watering can lands on the reels and increases the size of the egg symbol, it guarantees that you will hit a larger winning cluster on the subsequent tumble. Because the size of the egg is maintained between spins in this mode, I believe that you will probably win more by growing the egg than by hitting multipliers. I could be wrong, of course, and it would be nice to get a good mix of multipliers and egg size boosts if you can!

Bonus Buy

It costs 100x, the price of a regular spin to purchase the bonus round, and the number of free spins you will receive is determined randomly according to the number of scatter symbols which drop after you buy in.

I only received the minimum four-scatter trigger every time I tried this option during my testing, but perhaps I was unlucky – your mileage may vary!

Chicken Drop Slot Review Final Thoughts

Pragmatic Play has done a great job ensuring that Chicken Drop has the perfect blend of fun, playability, and big win potential. If you enjoy a light-hearted and colourful slot with a decent – but not nosebleed – level of variance, then you will surely enjoy this one.
