We recently reviewed the original Chicken Fox game by Lightning Box, and it seems the developer has been busy as we already have a sequel to check out named Chicken Fox Jr! Am I the only one getting a serious “Donkey Kong” vibe now? Older readers (showing my age here…) might remember that Nintendo followed up that game with a sequel named Donkey Kong Junior; let’s find out if Lightning Box can follow in their footsteps by offering a vastly improved game in Chicken Fox Junior! On that note, let’s start with the vital statistics; 20 fixed pay lines, a 95.5% RTP, and a 2,733x maximum win.
There are a few similarities between this game and the original, but Lightning Box has also added a few unique features. Two new modifiers can activate on any paid spin, grouped together as the ‘fox junior’ bonuses on the paytable. These can remove all the low-paying symbols on the reels or award additional golden egg scatter symbols. The main bonus round is dubbed the ‘Chicken Catch’ feature and awards between 8 and 30 free spins depending on the number of triggering scatter symbols.

Chicken Fox Slot Jr Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The foxes are back, once again on the prowl for as many of those delicious chickens – or their eggs – as they can get their grubby paws on! The presentation of Chicken Fox Jr is several steps up from that of the original machine, featuring far better symbols, backgrounds, and information pages. It’s still just as fun and light-hearted as ever, though, which is definitely a good thing, in my opinion! The highest-paying symbol on the paytable is the wild lady, paying 83.33x the current bet for a full pa line of five of a kind. Unfortunately, the wild lady only appears in the base game and is replaced by the wild fox – who has no payout attached – during the free games. The scatter symbols can pay up to 100x the current bet when all five appear anywhere on the reel set. The rest of the paytable looks to match the original Chicken Fox game, starting with 13.33x the bet for five tractors, 10x for five pigs, and 8.33x for five goats. Any set of five mixed chicken symbols on a pay line will award 6.66x your bet. Whilst the low-paying royals offer between 3.33x and 5x your stake for a full payline of five of a kind.
The betting range has been toned down slightly compared to the original; the minimum bet of €0.30 is still available, but the maximum has dropped to €90.00 per spin. I suspect this is still plenty for most players, so it shouldn’t cause any problems.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game of Chicken Fox Jr utilises a standard 5×3 playfield, spanned by 20 fixed paylines. That’s five less than the original game, but I doubt you will notice this during play. What you certainly will see, however, are the new modifiers! The paytable lists both of these new features together, but I have split them up below for clarity:
Fox Junior Upgrade
At the start of any base game spin, a fox may appear and begin to shoot arrows at the reel set. The fox will target all the low-paying royal symbols, uPGrading them to the higher-paying wild lady, pig, goat, or tractor symbols.
Fox Junior Award
Alternatively, the fox may decide to pop one of the balloons located around the edge of the reel set instead. An extra golden egg will be awarded when this occurs, potentially activating the free spin bonus round.
Chicken Fox Jr Slot Bonus Features
Hitting three, four, or five golden eggs during the base game will award 8, 15, or 30 free games, respectively. The golden egg symbol does not appear when the free games feature is active, but you can still win additional spins via the egg catch feature.
Free Spins
In this mode, the wild lady symbols are removed from the reels and replaced by new fox and multiplier fox wild symbols. Foxes can catch chickens or white eggs; if the fox catches a chicken, the prize shown underneath it will be added to your total win. If the fox catches a white egg, you will be awarded up to 5 additional free spins. The multiplier fox will double the value of each chicken or award twice as many free spins as the regular fox.
Chicken Fox Slot Jr Review Final Thoughts
Chicken Fox Jr certainly looks a lot better than the first game, but it’s also a much lower volatility machine. The top payout has been lowered, along with the prize for hitting a full payline of the wild lady symbols. If you prefer higher volatility games, I’d probably stick to the original. For everybody else, Chicken Fox Jr is the superior machine of the pair.
