Game Overview
The Clover Bonanza video slot by BGaming looks like a clone of their Lucky Farm Bonanza video slot, though perhaps there could be a few changes under the hood that aren’t immediately apparent the moment you open the game. It’s another 6×5 playfield affair; wins pay anywhere according to the number of matching symbols that appear on the screen, we’ve got the same maximum win of 15,000x your stake, but curiously, the RTP is slightly less at 95.84% rather than the 96% offered by Lucky Farm Bonanza.
In terms of features, we’ve got the same option to double your chances of hitting a bonus round for 25% on top of your regular bet, a bonus buy option, and a free spins bonus round that can award up to 30 free spins with unlimited retriggers and an additional multiplier symbol that can boost your winning by up to 100x – or more if more than one multiplier symbol happens to drop at the same time.
If you have already played Lucky Farm Bonanza, there’s little new to see here, but if not, I recommend you give our free demo slot of Clover Bonanza a try below.
Clover Bonanza Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The theme of Clover Bonanza is an eclectic mix of fruits and lucky Irish charms – it’s a strange mix, but everything is drawn in super high quality and looks immaculate overall. My only gripe would be with the sound – I love the sound of the symbols dropping, but the background music drove me crazy quickly. Thankfully, you can open the settings page and disable the music whilst leaving the sound effects on. I recommend you do this, and you’ll have a much more enjoyable experience. I’m not going to try and compare this to any other slots – I could list a bunch of fruit-based slots, or I could list a bunch of Irish-themed slots with leprechauns and the like, but the blend of the two styles offered here is so unique that it just wouldn’t make any sense to try and compare it to those games.
Looking at the paytable, there are some clear differences here between the aforementioned Lucky Farm Bonanza, which explains the difference in RTP. For example, six scatter symbols pay 80x your bet here, rather than the 100x offered in Lucky Farm. The horseshoe symbol pays 40x your stake for 12 or more matching symbols, dropping to 20x for 10/11 symbols or 8x for eight or nine. The Irish top hat pays 20x for the maximum of 12, followed by 12x for the diamond and 9.6x for the four-leaf clover golden lucky charm. Some of these prizes are higher than the ones in the other game we have mentioned, so it’s clear that a different math model has been used here. After comparing the two at length, I have to say I prefer the payouts offered by Lucky Farm Bonanza, but that’s just my personal preference. If you want to look yourself, we have Lucky Farm Bonanza listed here at demoslot.com, so feel free to compare the two games yourself.
The lower paying symbols are all represented by fruits, including melons, lemons, oranges, cherries, and the like, and pay between 8x and 1.6x for the maximum combination of 12 symbols.
The betting ranges are also unique to the Clover Bonanza video slot, starting at €0.25 per spin and topping out at €31.25 per spin – a pretty strange number, but I’m sure BGaming has its reasons for choosing this maximum bet.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game of Clover Bonanza takes place on an unusually shaped 6×5 playfield, which will be filled with symbols each time you hit the spin button. If eight or more matching symbols appear on the screen, they will explode and be removed from the playfield. This allows new symbols to drop into their place, potentially allowing for further winning combinations. Unfortunately, there are no multipliers if you manage to hit many successive wins, but it is still possible to achieve some reasonably big base game hits via this mechanic.
Bonus Chance Boost
If you are willing to pay an extra 25% on top of your regular bet, you can double your chances of hitting a bonus round. This is a great deal if you are a low roller and betting something tiny per spin anyway – what’s an extra €0.04 on top of your €0.20? The dynamics change a little if you are betting €5.00 per spin and now have to pay €6.25 for this privilege, but overall I would say it is a good bet. It would be nice if BGaming told us precisely what the odds of hitting a bonus round are in the first place; however, we are getting double the odds, but double what exactly? That is my only gripe with this type of feature.
Clover Bonanza Slot Free Spins Feature
Hit four or more scatter symbols during the base game, and you can win yourself some free spins with a couple of additional features. Furthermore, whilst four scatter symbols will award you ten spins, five scatter symbols will bump this up to 15 and six scatters will grant you the maximum of 30 free spins. If three or more scatters drop during the bonus round, another five spins will be added to your remaining counter.
As we would expect from BGaming, the Free Spins bonus has been spiced up with some additional features. The big one is the multiplier symbol, which can drop randomly on any spin with a value between 2x and 100x. More than one multiplier symbol can land on a single spin; if this happens, their values will be added together before your winnings are multiplied by the total amount.
Bonus Buy Feature
For a cost of 100x your regular bet, you can skip the base game altogether and simply play the free spins feature instead. This increases your RTP very slightly, and according to the paytable, you can get a four, five, or six scatter trigger when you use this option. My experience was that I always received four scatters, with one single exception where I hit five scatters instead. It would be awesome to hit six scatters via this feature, but I would guess the odds of this happening are enormous. It still seems like a bargain to me, though, so if you can see this option (many jurisdictions such as the UKGC do not permit bonus buy features), then go ahead and do so!
Clover Bonanza Slot Review Final Thoughts
Clover Bonanza is very close to being a clone of Lucky Farm Bonanza, but I’d guess this is intentional – perhaps BGaming is creating their own “Bonanza” franchise. Sadly, in my opinion, this game is inferior to Lucky Farm Bonanza, so I’d stick with that game if you enjoy this type of slot. It’s a great game, for sure, but when there Is an almost identical game from the same developer with superior payouts, why play this one?
