Collapsed Castle Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Let’s talk about the theme used in Collapsed Castle a little more for a moment; I said that the music had a somewhat “epic” vibe to it, by which I was giving my opinion that it has a kind of “about to go on a valiant, noble quest” feeling behind it. I love that aspect of this machine, but it’s a shame that the game itself is a little less dramatic in its execution. If the music from this game had been combined with something more akin to Big Time Gaming’s Castle of Terror, I reckon that it would be a perfect package of slot machine epicness, big win potential, and general castle-themed excellence!
On to those all important winning symbols then, and at the top of the paytable, you will find both the wild shield and the treasure chest, each with a return of 20x the current stake for a full payline of five-of-a-kind. Next, a special-looking book and a sack of golden treasure share a lower payout of 15x your bet for all five symbols. Finally, a dragon that looks to be climbing out of a pot and a knight’s helm complete the high-paying section of the table, both with a return of 10x the bet for a complete payline. There are five circular low-paying symbols as well, all of which pay 5x the bet for a five-of-a-kind combination.
Players with bankrolls of all shapes and sizes look to be well catered for by Collapsed Castle, as the minimum bet per spin is just €0.10. The maximum permitted wager will likely vary between casinos, but the free-play mode tops out at €300.00 per round.
Base Game & Modifiers
The unusual playfield layout was touched on earlier but hasn’t been fully explained until now; the quickest way to visualise the configuration is probably to picture a standard 5×3 reel set before adding an extra top row to the centre three reels only.
This creates a 3-4-4-4-3 layout that doesn’t seem particularly unusual until you remember that this game utilises standard paylines rather than payways. The problem with this setup is that the 18 available paylines do not cover many of the most instinctive and obvious paths from left to right. Because of this, there is a near certainty that you will repeatedly hit combinations which look like they should return a win but do not.
Win Multiplier
The current win multiplier is displayed in a purple sphere to the left of the main reel set. During the base game, the win multiplier will be reset after every spin, whilst during the bonus round, the active multiplier is retained between spins for the duration of the feature.
Magician Symbol
These special symbols appear in all game modes and significantly boost the value of the current win multiplier. There are four colours, each with a different multiplier value: blue at 2x; purple at 5x; red at 10x; and finally, yellow at 25x.
Collapsed Castle Slot Bonus Features
Scatter symbols appear on the first, third, and fifth reel only, and you will need to hit all three of them simultaneously to win yourself a set of ten free spins.
Note that there is no mention on the paytable whether the free spins can be re-triggered, but I didn’t see any scatters on the reel strips during my game testing. This is unfortunate because the bonus round does tend to give a lot of dead spins, meaning that it can be over in the blink of an eye.
Free Spins
The bonus round offered by Collapsed Castle is mostly just ten spins on the same setup as the base game, with one key difference: the active multiplier will now be held between each spin! This enhancement ensures that every magician symbol that shows up on a free spin is extremely valuable, as the multiplier they hold will be active for the remainder of your free spins.
If just one yellow magician appears during free spins, you will immediately receive a boost of 25x on top of your active multiplier. The tricky part, however, is to go on to hit a valuable winning combination once you have reached an impressively high multiplier!
I managed one or two decent bonus rounds while writing this review, but it was pretty difficult to hit the feature to gather data on how much I had won. For reference, the official materials for the game list a maximum base game win of 1,204x the bet, along with 3,105x in the bonus round.
Collapsed Castle Slot Review Final Thoughts
Just like the other Evoplay games that I have tested, there are lots of positive things to say about Collapsed Castle. It’s not a perfect machine, however, and Evoplay can do plenty more to improve the design and operation of its future releases. For the time being, at least, this is what we have – decidedly better than average but unlikely to keep you coming back over the long term.
