Colt Lightning Firestorm (Play'n Go) Slot Demo & Review

For the most part, Play’n Go is not a slot developer you’d associate with sequels. Okay, I can hear many of you shouting at the screen about the Rich Wilde Book of Dead slots, but I obviously meant aside from the 300 or so (slight exaggeration) machines in that franchise. Other than those, there really aren’t that many. There’s Reactoonz 2, Troll Hunters 2, and a few more I can think of off the top of my head, but we’re not swimming in sequels, let’s put it that way. On that note, then, you know what’s coming, as I have a new one for you today, and that is Colt Lightning Firestorm, a sequel to the Colt Lightning slot that was released early last year. The original proved a reasonable slot, so I’d like to see whether Play’n Go has created something even better. A look at the core stats suggests so, as it is a 5×4 slot with 1,024 ways to win, a 96.20% RTP, and a significant maximum win of 50,000x the stake.

That max win and the available win ways are double that of the original, so that is a good start. Bigger numbers always impress, but how do the features compare between the two? Well, they’re entirely different, so kudos for that. This time, a Lightning Blaze feature creates Fire Frames, transforming symbols within into the same type of premium for improved chances to win. It’s possible to trigger two bonus games, too. The better being a free spins bonus, which plays across an expanded grid that now offers 3,125 ways to win, sticky fire frames, and a top-paying symbol that pays twice as much as before.

Were you a fan of the original Colt Lightning slot and want to see if the sequel is even better? Once again, we have you covered, as you can find out for yourself on the Colt Lightning Firestorm slot demo below.

Colt Lightning Firestorm Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Colt Lightning Firestorm Slot Paytable
Colt Lightning Firestorm slot paytable

You have to feel sorry for horses; they are the kings of the race track, but when it comes to online gambling, they’re rarely used as a theme for slots. Playtech has produced a few less than inspiring releases within the niche, and Inspired Gaming has released the popular Gold Horsey Winner and Big Horsey Fortune games, but the only other I can think of is Happy Hooves from Pragmatic Play, so there is an opportunity for Colt Lightning Firestorm to be considered one of the best in this genre.

Whether it achieves that will depend on its features, but I’d like to get into the paytable and symbols before we uncover more about those. The Colt is out in front with an 8x return for a maximum five-symbol combination. Furthermore, during the free spins bonus, that symbol transforms into a Fire Colt with 16x up for grabs. Following either Colt are the four other premium animal symbols, the Eagle, Lion, Wolf, and Snake, which pay 4x, 3x, 2.4x, and 2x for a completed line of five. In terms of the low pays, you can win up to 1.6x from the Ace, 1.5x from the King and Queen, and 1.2x from both the Jack and Ten. The final base game symbol is the Wild, which can generate winning combos by substituting for other paying symbols.

There’s a solid number of staking options on the Colt Lightning slot, and you can pick from 17 bets between the minimum of €0.10 and the maximum of €100.00. This comprehensive selection should ensure players of all sized budgets are catered for.

Colt Lightning Firestorm Slot Base Game & Modifiers

Colt Lightning Firestorm Slot Base Game
Colt Lightning Firestorm slot base game

Play’n Go has gone with a more conventional reel setup for Colt Lighting Firestorm, giving us 5 reels and 4 rows instead of the 5×3-4-4-4-3 on the original. We also have more win ways to aim for, as this latest slot has double with 1,024 ways to win. Aside from the Colt Symbol in the base game and Fire Colt in free spins, which require two or more, you’ll need three or more symbols across consecutive reels to land to form a winning combination. Those combos must start from the leftmost reel.

Lightning Blaze

The Lightning Blaze feature triggers whenever the Horseshoe symbol appears on the central reel. It adds between 3 and 30 Fire Frames on the symbols, turning those inside into the same type of Premium symbol.

Colt Lightning Firestorm Slot Bonus Features

Colt Lightning Firestorm Slot Bonus Feature

The Colt Lightning Firestorm slot has two bonus games, both of which trigger via the Firestorm feature. The feature kicks into action once three Firestorm scatter symbols land anywhere on the middle three reels, and you’ll randomly receive one of the Fortune Strike or Free Spins bonus games.

Firestorm Strike

If you receive this bonus, there’s not really much of a game to enjoy. You’re given an instant prize with a random value between 5x and 200x your stake.

Free Spins Feature

Undoubtedly, the best of the two bonus games is the free spins round, which plays out across an expanded playing grid. An extra row is added, meaning we now have 3,125 ways to win. The regular Colt-paying symbol is upgraded to a Fire Colt, which now offers double the original payouts. You’ll also receive an additional spin each time the free spins scatter lands anywhere in view.

It’s possible to trigger the Lightning Blaze feature during free spins, but this time, it’s different from what you get in the base game. Up to four Fire Frame symbols are added to the reels and remain sticky until the end of the bonus. Once the bonus finishes, all the Fire Frames become a random premium symbol.

Pros

  • I cannot complain about a 50,000 max win, although how realistic it is, I am unsure.

Cons

  • The Firestorm Strike feature is just there to RNG you out of triggering the main free spins bonus.

Colt Lightning Firestorm Slot Review Final Thoughts

So, what was better? The original or the sequel? Well, while Colt Lightning Firestorm offers twice the pay lines and a winning potential of up to 50,000x, I preferred the gameplay and bonus features in the original. It is a fine line between the two, though, so I’m sure some of you will side with this sequel instead.
