Cossacks The Wild Hunt Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
So, just who are the Cossacks anyway? Our ever-trusty resource over at Wikipedia explains that they are predominantly East Slavic people with Orthodox Christian beliefs. They originated from the steppes of Ukraine, eventually becoming the Don Cossacks of Russia during the 19th century. A semi-nomadic yet semi-militarized people, the Cossacks were allowed a great degree of self-governance in exchange for providing military service to their motherland of Russia. Cossack traditions continued into the 20th century when they were assigned as a special force’s unit of the Soviet Union’s formidable armed forces. The reputation of the Cossacks eventually became somewhat tainted because of their willingness to fight for Nazi Germany, at least before their invasion of Russia. At the end of the second world war, their units were disbanded, but as of the 2002 Russian Census, almost 150,000 people still identify as Cossack in ethnicity. I hope some of you found that interesting – I’m a bit of a history geek, if I’m honest, but you really should be, too – we can only hope to learn from the past by studying it.
Back to the Cossack’s online slot now, and the highest-paying regular symbol is labelled “Roman” on the paytable, and he is worth 1.5x your current bet for a completed pay way of six-of-a-kind. Taras is next, and he will pay you 1.2x the stake for all five of his symbols, then we have Yana at 0.8x, the Bear, also at 0.8x, and finally, a wolf and a boar, both of which are worth 0.6x for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind.
Things sure get interesting once you start checking out the wagering options in this game. First up, the minimum and maximum bets in the default configuration are €0.20 and €25.00 per spin, respectively, but it is the Foxify bonus bet which takes things to another level. Bonus bets sometimes add an extra 25% to your regular wager. Occasionally, these features may also cost an entire additional 100%. This time around, however, the price to enable the Foxify bonus is a staggering 500%, increasing the minimum and maximum bounds to €1.00 per spin or €125.00 per spin at the other end of the scale.
Base Game & Modifiers
The surprises continue once you begin spinning the base game; the grid appears to utilise a 6×6 format, you you will quickly notice that the left, right, and top columns and rows are mostly filled with blanks on the vast majority of your spins. This is where the WonderWays mechanic comes in, so let’s take a deep dive into that now:
Wonderways Mechanic
The reels are effectively divided into two distinct sections; the inside area of 4×5 positions has 5,625 pay ways, whilst the outer zone – when enabled – will increase this up to the maximum of 46,656 pay ways.
During every regular paid spin, a random number of blocker symbols will appear in the outer zone. As you would expect, the number of blockers will limit the number of available pay ways for that spin.
This is a “rolling reels” slot, a style that Foxium enjoys using, but rather than just implementing this payout mechanic in the typical way that most other online slots do, Foxium has also included an ascending multiplier which activates during the base game and the bonus round.
Foxify Bonus Bet
Enabling the expensive Foxify bonus bet facility will increase the cost of each spin by 500%. You must expect something special for such a huge increase in the regular cost per spin, and Foxium has wisely delivered a couple of special features… the question is, are they enough to offset this huge price? The RTP increases by 0.03% when the Foxify option is enabled, but that alone is not enough to tempt me!
To Arms Modifier
This mod can trigger at the beginning of any spin, causing several arrows to attack the reel set. For every symbol pierced by these arrows, a transformation will occur that will create a guaranteed six-of-a-kind win of one of the highest-paying symbols.
Release The Wilds Modifier
At the start of any base game or bonus round spin, a set of blades may appear, smashing into the reels and converting any symbols which they hit into wilds. This is an excellent modifier as it almost always results in a huge win of at least 100x your bet.

How about the main bonus round, then? You’ll need to hit all four “HUNT” scatter symbols to kick this one into action, but there is a slight catch – they only appear on rules two through five. It takes a lot of spins to hit this feature, so I couldn’t help feeling a tad disappointed when I discovered you only get eight free spins with which to try and hit the big prizes.
A variety of new symbols appear during this mode; if you were lucky enough to hit any additional +2 scatters on the triggering spin, your bonus round will be extended to ten, 12, or maybe even more free spins. I never saw this happen whilst I was testing the game, but I feel confident in saying a 12 free spin bonus round is almost sure to deliver a monstrous prize!
Hold up, though – Foxium hasn’t finished just yet! The free spins bonus round also has a multiplier meter which increases by 1x each time you hit a winning combination. I can’t help but feel a certain level of déjà vu when I talk about this feature – if you’ve played any Megaways Slot, you’ll likely know where I am coming from with that statement.
Finally, a new symbol which appears to be two axes carved into stone, will appear on reels two, three, four, and five during the bonus round only. If you can manage to land an axe on all four of those reels, one additional free spin will be added to your remaining counter.

What a game! Foxium can’t seem to do any wrong in my eyes recently. Each game that they produce seems better than the last. Once again, I am excited to see what this fledging software house will come up with during the next ten years – they certainly have the potential. If they pay attention to their customer’s feedback – something that many other developers dismiss as timewasting – then Foxium has a golden opportunity to make its way to the top-tier of online slots developers.
