Cubes 2 Slot (Hacksaw Gaming) Slot Demo & Review

The original Cubes online slot from Hacksaw Gaming was a smash hit with players, making it inevitable that a sequel would appear at some point in the future. I think that future has now arrived, as today we’ll be checking out Cubes 2. I almost got confused there for a moment – it’s actually rather difficult to tell this game apart from the original Cubes! Although the two games are visually near-identical, Cubes 2 boasts a much larger jackpot of 10,500x, more features, bigger multipliers, additional colour blast jackpots, and an enhanced soundtrack. The RTP has taken a very small dip to 96.33%, although this is still a little higher than average.

The first Cubes game had a single middle multiplier square in the centre of the screen; this time, Hacksaw placed four multipliers in each corner of the grid instead. This increases your chances of accumulating a winning cluster around a multiplier and makes it much more likely that a grid expansion will enhance your multiplied winning cluster. The first Cubes offered a 2,500x jackpot for landing a 70-symbol cluster during free spins; Cubes 2 retains that prize, as well as offering 500x or 7,000x for clusters of 50 or 90 symbols, respectively. There’s also a bonus buy facility this time around, with two options priced at 109x and 129x the normal cost per spin.

Hacksaw’s games are always popular here at Demoslot, so I probably won’t need to convince you to try our Cubes 2 demo slot – It’s available to play below.

The original Cubes online slot was a deceptively simple game that I imagined would prove popular with fans of puzzle games such as Tetris. The machine became a smash hit and one of the first breakthrough titles to really put Hacksaw Gaming on the map. My biggest criticism of the original game was its relatively low jackpot cap of just 3,000x the total bet, so I was thrilled to discover that Hacksaw had boosted this game’s top win to more than 10,000x the stake. If you want to try some other top highly volatile titles from Hacksaw here on our site whilst you’re visiting, I suggest taking a look at their RIP City slot or the incredibly popular Wanted Dead or a Wild slot, both of which I think you’ll find interesting to play.

We’re onto the paytable next, and just as in the original Cubes, the six colours shown on the paytable of Cubes 2 all share equal returns. Any cluster of 25 or more adjacent matching symbols will reward you with 40x your total stake, with smaller payouts of 32x, 24x, or 10x the total bet on offer for clusters of 20-24, 15-19, or 12-14 symbols, respectively. The smallest payouts are awarded for clusters of just five adjacent matching symbols, although this will only get you a measly 0.1x your total stake! These payouts won’t be enough to excite anyone on their own, but they can also be boosted significantly by means of the four corner multiplier squares – see below for details.

There’s no change to the minimum/maximum betting limits available in Cubes 2 – those are still set at €0.20 and €100.00 per spin, respectively. The lower end of the range has plenty of intermediate bets to choose from, although the gaps get frustratingly wide once you begin to approach the upper limit.

Cubes 2 Slot Base Game & Modifiers

Cubes 2 Slot Base Game
Cubes 2 slot base game

If you’re familiar with the original Cubes, you’ll feel immediately at home when playing Cubes 2. For the uninitiated, these games start with a 5×5 reel set for a total of 25 symbol positions; hitting a winning cluster anywhere on the playfield will cause the grid reels to expand in all four directions up to a maximum size of 11×11.

Corner Multipliers

The four corner spots of the playfield are marked with an ‘X’ during the base game. If a winning cluster forms around one of these spots, the ‘X’ will transform into a number that matches the number of cubes in the winning cluster. The total win for that cluster will then be multiplied by the number shown. If a winning cluster links more than one corner spot, their multipliers will be added together before being applied to the win.

Cubes 2 Slot Bonus Features

Cubes 2 Slot Free Spins Feature
Cubes 2 slot free spins feature

Hacksaw has retained the same free spins feature present in the original Cubes but has also added a new multi-colour free spin mode. Interestingly, the cost of the multi-colour version when using the bonus buy facility is a little lower than the regular free spins, suggesting that the latter is probably the more lucrative option.

Free Spins Feature

To trigger the regular free spins feature, you will need to land five winning clusters of different colours during a single spin. Five free spins are guaranteed upon entry to the bonus round, but this can be increased to a maximum of 12 using the ‘Pick Me’ bonus that appears before the feature begins.

One colour is chosen to be ‘sticky’ during each set of free spins. Winning clusters of the selected colour will remain in place for the duration of the bonus round, allowing you to collect their prize multiple times. If a symbol cluster exceeds certain size limits, a jackpot prize will be added to your winnings:

  • 50 Symbols: 500x Total Bet
  • 70 Symbols: 2,500x Total Bet
  • 90 Symbols: 7,000x Total Bet

Multi-colour Free Spins

If all four corner multipliers are included in winning clusters, the multi-colour free spins will be triggered. Five free spins are guaranteed upon entry to the bonus round, but it’s possible to increase this to a maximum of 10 by picking mystery cubes before the feature begins. The maximum win achievable in this mode is capped at 7,500x the total bet, which is a little puzzling considering that the cap is 10,500x in every other part of the game!

Bonus Buy

If you like to play free bonus buy slots then the ‘buy bonus’ button in the bottom-left corner of the screen opens a menu with two options:

  • Free Spins Feature: 129x Total Bet
  • Multi-Colour Free Spins Feature: 109x Total Bet

As far as I can tell, the two features play identically – the only difference between them seems to be their varying maximum wins of 10,500x and 7,500x, respectively. I don’t see the point in the cheaper option here; If you’re going to buy a bonus, you may as well go for the one with the highest potential – especially when the difference in price is so small.

Pros

  • Solid maximum win of 10,500x.
  • Above average RTP.

Cons

  • It may be confusing for some players initially.

Cubes 2 Slot Review Final Thoughts

Cubes 2 makes for a worthy sequel to the original – the increased jackpot is certainly welcome, and who could complain about having two methods of triggering the bonus rather than one! The only issue here is the lower jackpot cap enforced by the multi-colour mode – surely this arbitrary limitation goes against the entire ethos of the Pocketz series? Ah, well, not to worry… I’m sure Hacksaw will nail it once and for all when they publish Cubes 3!
