The game is part of their “Popwins” collection, a payout mechanic invented by AvatarUX, who decided to go the Big Time Gaming route of licensing their idea out to other slot developers. I’m surprised they got away with this if I’m honest, as it’s a very simple game mechanic, but I guess that is a discussion for another day. The developers who created the mobile game Candy Crush sure have a lot to answer for, don’t they? In fairness, sweet-themed games existed long before Candy Crush first appeared on the scene, but there’s no denying it was that single game which kickstarted the trend towards a full-on genre of candy-themed games; console gamers are swamped by Puzzle Bobble style candy games, whilst online slots players are forced to wade through Candy Cashcades, Candy Stars, and Bon Bomb Luxpots Megaways, to find the game they are actually searching for.
So, how do the pays stack up? Well, the crown symbol tops out the paytable with a return of 12.5x your bet, followed by the bar at 8x for all five, the multi coloured star will pay you 6x for a full pay way of five-of-a-kind, and then there’s the ever-popular lucky seven symbol which is worth 4x for a completed pay line. Base Game & Modifiers
Upon opening the game, you’ll be transported to a candy world where it seems as if everything around you is constructed from some type of sweet. Putting aside the logistical nightmares of such a scenario, we’ll concentrate on the playfield; it’s a five reel, three row setup, so you may assume there are 243 payways – not so fast there, my friend.
This game states there are 486 pay ways right from the off – how can that be? It’s actually straightforward; the game pays in both directions. This means you can land three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels starting from the left or right, making it much easier to score a win. Each time you hit a win, the symbols that form part of the winning combination will divide into two, enlarging the participating reels and creating new payways in the process.
Expanding Reels
The base game reel set starts out at five reels with three rows each. Each time you hit a winning combination, the reels involved will expand by one extra position for every win that involves that reel. If you can successfully stretch all five reels to the maximum height of six, you will trigger the bonus round.
Super Stake
The super stake mode costs an extra 100% on top of the regular price per spin and adds multiplier symbols to the base game of between 2x and 100x. This increases the game’s volatility significantly, but it may just be worth the cost, as my results whilst using this feature were far more impressive than when I played with the option turned off.

Once the playfield reaches the base game maximum size of 5×6, the bonus round is triggered. The 5×6 base game reel set has 15,552 payways, which is the default number of ways that will be active when the feature begins.
Free Spins
Before the bonus round begins, you will be presented with the bonus wheel, which contains various numbers of free spins and multipliers. You can win between five and 15 free spins, with a multiplier of up to 25x. Note that there are three different bonus wheels; the first wheel has a maximum multiplier of 10x, whilst the second and third wheels have top multipliers of 15x and 25x, respectively. The wheel used for each feature is determined randomly before the bonus round begins.
Bonus Buy
If you opt to use the bonus buy feature, you can pay to access the more generous bonus wheels. However, the bigger wheels come at a significant cost. The first wheel will cost you 80x the regular spin price, whilst the second wheel with a 15x maximum multiplier costs 150x, and the best wheel with a 25x multiplier chance costs a whopping 400x. You can also take a chance on a random wheel for 200x the normal spin price.

Delicious Candy Popwins might not be up to the standard of the content we see from the original creator of the mechanic, but it’s still worth some spinning time if you find yourself at a loose end and your sweet tooth needs satisfying.
