Devil’s Crossroad (Nolimit City) Slot Demo & Review

When Nolimit City releases a new slot, you sit up and take notice. Why? Because they tend to be different from your regular developer, who is happy to churn out uninteresting slots that offer nothing new. You also know you’ll likely get a much darker theme, like their title, True Kult, that most providers wouldn’t touch with a barge pole. This time, the slot focuses on the devil and those who have sold him their soul in return for greatness, money, or whatever else they desire. It is a unique slot with an unorthodox playing grid with a 96.06% RTP and a 13,180x max win.

A first glance at this slot might conjure confusion simply because of its cross-like reel configuration. However, as you’ll find out later in this review, it is not as complex as it first looks, and after a few spins, you’ll have an idea of how everything works. As for the features, you’ll come across wild symbols and cross-section multipliers in the base game, as well as a Hold & Win Bonus that includes a whole host of multipliers. There’s also the chance to buy features if you like high-risk and reward gameplay.

I’m not sure about you guys, but if a slot is released that needs a little more understanding than usual, I appreciate free slot demos more than ever, as we can learn about the game and its features without risking real money. You can check out everything this latest title offers in the Devil’s Crossroad slot demo below.

As mentioned, Nolimit City is not what you’d call a developer for the faint hearted, and Devil’s Crossroad is one of many titles from the developer with a darker theme. Mental, Karen Maneater and Serial are just some slots featuring less than conventional slot themes. Subject matter aside, what I love about those slots and the many others in the NLC portfolio is that you almost always come away thinking the mechanics and gameplay are unique to what you’ve ever experienced before.

You’ll see that pattern again with the reel format of Devil’s Crossroad, but before I get into that side of things, let’s look at the symbols and payouts this slot offers. There are five main characters that represent the higher pays. The Yellow Man and his 10x payout for a complete 5-symbol combination is the highest you’ll come across. The Red Lady, Green Man, Blue Man, and Purple Lady will pay 6x, 4x, 3x, and 2x, respectively, for a five of a kind winning combination, whilst the Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and Ten offer the lower payouts of 1x, 1x, 0.8x, 0.6x, and 0.4x.

Nolimit City has given Devil’s Crossroad a fairly wide betting range, so all real money players shouldn’t have any issue finding a suitable bet size to choose from. These range from a minimum of €0.20 per spin to a maximum of €200.00. However, as NLC slots do pay their max wins regularly, don’t be surprised if you see casinos limit the top end to a more sensible amount.

Devil’s Crossroad Slot Base Game

Devil's Crossroad Slot Base Game

You can always count on Nolimit City to develop unorthodox slot games, and Devil’s Crossroad is yet another title that fits into that category. Most players won’t have seen the reel configuration before, as it comprises four cross sections, each with four positions. They are connected in the middle by a Devil Wild symbol, which substitutes for all regular symbols and, due to its position, is always involved in winning combinations.

A win will be created when matching symbols land on consecutive positions, starting from the Devil Wild and moving outwards across a particular section. Three or more matching symbols (including the wild) are required for each winning combination. All winning symbols are removed from the reels, allowing new symbols to cascade towards the centre of the reels.

Cross Wilds

As well as the aforementioned Devil Wild symbol, there is a chance that regular symbols connected to the Devil Wild will randomly turn into wild symbols. These also substitute for all regular paying symbols.

Cross Multiplier

After a win, all instances of the winning symbol are removed from the playing grid, even if they’ve not formed a winning combination. Those removed symbols also increase a win multiplier value for their cross sections by 1x. That multiplier will apply to future winning combinations during the spin within the respective cross sections.

Scatter Symbols

Scatter symbols can also increase the multiplier value of the cross sections. They can land in any position on the middle row/column of a cross-section, and if they land directly next to the central grid position, all other symbols in the section become inactive. They, and all other instances of those symbols, disappear from the reels. They’re also removed from the reels completed, so they will not fall into the grid for the remainder of that spin. Each symbol removed from a cross-section will then increase the multiplier of that section by 1x.

Devil’s Crossroad Slot Bonus Features

While the base game is out of the ordinary, you couldn’t say the same about the bonus game. It still has a lot to offer, but essentially, it is a Hold & Win bonus with a bunch of modifiers. This bonus triggers when four or more scatter symbols land in any position on the grid.

Redemption Spins

As with many other bonus games of this type, you receive three respins, which reset to three each time a new coin symbol lands. The coins all have a multiplier of your stake value that you collect once the bonus game finishes. Whenever an entire column is filled with coin symbols, a random modifier is applied to that column for all remaining re-spins. The random modifiers are:

  • Gluttony: Applies its multiplier value to all coin symbols on the column/row.
  • Wrath: Multiplies the value of a random coin on its column/row.
  • Lust: Moves you one step closer to uPGrading the Redemption spins bonus.
  • Greed: One coin symbol is randomly selected as a collector symbol. It will collect the value of all coins in its column/row.
  • Envy: Converts a random coin in its column/row into a replica of the highest-valued coin on the grid.
  • Pride: The value of one coin on the column/row is applied to all others.

It’s also possible to upgrade the Redemption Spins Bonus. That happens once you fill four upgrade positions on the bar. To fill one of the positions, you need to trigger the Lust modifier or land a scatter symbol directly next to the most central position on the reels. Once you have filled the four positions, you will trigger modifiers when filling entire rows. Finally, a Devil Coin can land during the bonus game, automatically triggering one of the modifiers for the column it lands on. If it lands after the bonus is upgraded, a modifier is also applied to its row.

Bonus Buy

If you’re the type that likes to skip straight to the bonus game on slots, there is a Bonus Buy feature you can use. It is only available in regions where bonus buys are allowed. You have three options:

  • You can buy into the standard Redemption Spins Bonus for 80x your current stake.
  • upgraded Redemption spins for 500x.
  • One of the two decided randomly for 250x.

Pros

  • xWays, xSplit, and xNudge all make a welcome return.
  • Three variations of the free spins bonus game.

Cons

  • A partial reskin of Remember Gulag - but with a different maths model.

Devil's Crossroad Slot Review Final Thoughts

Last time out from Nolimit City, we got a clone of Remember Gulag in the form of Jingle Balls, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect when Devil's Crossroad came across my desk this morning. This time around, we do have an original release, but as I mentioned earlier, whilst the base game offers unique elements, the bonus feature has been done countless times before.Die-hard NLC fans may get a kick out of Devil's Crossroad in the short term, but I don't see this going down as one of the provider's all-time hits.
