I can barely believe that the third title in Elk Studios Games Battle of Nitropolis mini-series is already upon us. They are coming thick and fast, and it feels like only yesterday that I reviewed the first. So far, we’ve seen the Gritty Kitty character enjoy her moment under the spotlight, and the Rogue Rats receive a run-out in a rather unconventional game that I’m not sure even counts as a slot. Today, the Dirty Dawgs of Nitropolis take centre stage, so let’s check out what these crazy canines have to offer. As usual, we have to make do with a disappointing RTP of just 94%, but the reasonable maximum win of 25,000x that was also seen in the previous two releases remains a positive.
We are introduced to each character in turn as part of this mini-series, exploring their home turf as they prepare to fight in the final battle, which will be Nitropolis 5. The Dirty Dawgs hangout is a graphically rich, futuristic urban setting, and the gameplay takes place on a 6×4 grid across 20 fixed paylines. This is a deviation from the norm, as previous Nitropolis games have tended to feature payways, cascading reels, and an expanding grid – none of those are present here. This is more of a traditional slotting experience, but there are plenty of modern features laid on top. These include the Nitro Raffle feature, where stake multiplier coins can land with values up to and including a max win, the Dirty Wilds activation, which sees fully stacked wild reels hitting the screen, and the familiar Nitro Reels, which in this version only contain wild symbols.
With the pace at which these titles are being pumped out, it can be hard to keep up. I’m sure fans of the series will be pleased with the volume of new titles, but it also leaves less time for each slot to be fully appreciated. Dirty Dawgs Of Nitropolis Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
This run of releases almost has must-see TV box set vibes about it. You know, the type of scenario where everybody is talking about what happened in the latest episode, and you have no clue what they mean but nod along anyway. Well, if that’s you, it’s time to get yourself up to speed. The natural place to start would be Gritty Kitty of Nitropolis, the first in the series, which essentially sticks to the familiar formula of the previous Nitropolis games. The sequel to that is Rogue Rats of Nitropolis, which is a shocking change of direction for the series. It sees the rodents stepping away from the reels, riding around a massive open world, collecting pay values and blowing up the environment as they go. Right then, I packed as much as possible into the introduction section. Now it’s time to analyse the features of Dirty Dawgs of Nitropolis in greater detail, starting with the paytable.
With the switch away from a payways system in favour of a smaller number of fixed winlines, I’m hoping the symbol values have been raised to compensate. Let’s see what we’re working with. The top symbol on offer is the Dirty Dawgs Crest, which will return 25x the stake per line of six. Next, we have the Studded Collar at 20x, a Pistol at 15x, the Beer Mug at 10x, and the final higher-paying symbol, the Dog Bowl, weighing in at 5x. The non-premium offerings are the familiar A, K, Q, J, and 10 worth 3.5x, 2.5x, 2x, 1.5x, and 1x, respectively, for each winning combination of six. Not bad, then, but nothing to get our tails wagging uncontrollably.
We have Elk Studios’ usual impressive range of stake options at our disposal to attack this slot with. These range from as low as €0.20 to as high as €100.00, with plenty of well-placed entry points between those extremes. As such, all players should be able to find a stake selection that suits them here.
Dirty Dawgs Of Nitropolis Slot Base Game
Dirty Dawgs of Nitropolis uses a static 6×4 grid with 20 fixed winlines. As I’ve mentioned, this is unusual for games in this series, which usually operate expanding reels, payways, and cascading symbols, but none of those elements are on display here. Forming a winning combination is as simple as matching three or more corresponding symbols on adjacent reels, from left to right, commencing on the leftmost reel, a mechanism that most slot players will be more than familiar with by now.
Nitro Wild Reels
Nitro Wild Reels cover two to four vertical row positions and can land on all reels. They contain between two to ten stacked wild symbols, which will substitute for any pay table symbol in a winning line.
Nitro Feature Box
The Nitro Feature Box is a 1×1 symbol which can land in any grid position and contain one of several modifiers, as described below:
- Wild: Converts the Nitro Feature Box into a standard wild symbol.
- Re-Spin: Awards a re-spin of the reels, with any Nitro Reels, Nitro Feature Boxes, and scatter symbols remaining sticky.
- Nitro Expand: Expands the size of a randomly selected Nitro Wild Reel
- Nitro Raffle: Coverts any Nitro Wild Reels on the grid into Nitro Raffle reels. These will then spin and may land coins that represent stake value multipliers, the largest of which is the Max Win coin that pays 25,000x
Dirty Wilds
Randomly, on any base game spin, the Dirty Wilds feature may activate and land fully expanded 1×4 Nitro Wild Reels on between one and six reels. Each will contain a random number of wild symbols up to ten.
Dirty Dawgs Of Nitropolis Slot Bonus Features
As with most Elk Studios slots, Dirty Dawgs has a standard and bonus free spins feature. Let’s see what these variations offer and how they are triggered.
Bonus Game
Landing three or more scatter symbols on the reels will trigger the bonus game, which begins with ten free spins. During the bonus, any Nitro Wild Reels that land become sticky for the duration of the feature, and the number of scatters involved in the trigger will determine how many of these special reels are in place when the bonus begins.
Three scatters start with zero Nitro Wild Reels, four scatters start with one, and five scatters begin with two. If six scatters activate the feature, the Super Bonus will be awarded, which begins with three sticky Nitro Wild Reels in place. If a Nitro Wild Reel lands on all six reels in any of these bonus variants, then five additional spins will be awarded.
X-iter
Players can purchase various enhanced game modes directly via the X-Iter bonus buy button. These options are described below:
- Bonus Hunt: More than triple the chance of triggering the bonus game. Cost – 3x.

Although I appreciated the ingenuity, I wasn’t a fan of the unusual gameplay style of Rogue Rats, so I was pleased to see that Elk had returned to something more conventional in Dirty Dawgs. They’ve swung the other way here, moving to a more traditional fixed payline system, which works perfectly well, but many players may miss the action-packed style of gameplay that a large number of pay ways and cascading reels offer in a usual Nitropolis slot. However, there are plenty of new features to enjoy in this release, with Dirty Wilds being the pick of them, and the prospect of a max win coin popping out to play is not bad either. This is a really enjoyable game, and I’ll look forward to seeing what the next release in this mini-series, Pug Thugs, has to offer.
