Let me start by saying I preferred the soundtrack on DJ Fox as it was more up-tempo than what’s played here. That said, despite growing up during the early days of rave music, such as happy hardcore, house, and trance, neither really hit the spot with me. We’re not here for the music, though, are we? It’s the mechanics and features most of you will care more for. In that regard, you can look forward to the return of the Win What You See mechanic, unlockable rows, multiplier meters, and the Push-Up feature.

If you thought the soundtracks provided by DJ Fox and DJ Cat were good enough to have you contemplating a night out at your local nightclub, wait till you hear what’s offered on The Rave and DJ Psycho.

Let’s get back to DJ Cat and see what you can expect regarding payouts. Well, at this point, I should point out there’s no paytable in sight. Like DJ Fox, this slot utilises Push Gaming’s Win What You See mechanic to determine payouts. That mechanic debuted on the developer’s Generous Jack slot and returns for the third time on DJ Cat. There are five rows of four positions, but you’ll only win from those that are active. The four positions can spin in Duds, which are worthless, or numerical values of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, and you get to win what you see divided by 10. For example, say it’s a 9; you’ll win 0.9x your stake. However, two numbers next to each other combine. So, for example, a 3, 0, Dud, Dud is 30 and will pay 3x the stake. If a Dud breaks up a sequence of numbers, each number is treated as an individual, and their payouts are added together. For instance, a 3, Dud, 3 Dud would be 0.3x + 0.3x = 0.6x.

I know it isn’t very clear, but after a few spins, you’ll start to understand how this mechanic works. The bets you can make range from €0.10 to €100.00 as standard, although the Push Bet feature I’ll discuss later can drastically change the price to play.

The reel levels vary depending on the amount you are currently betting, but on a standard spin, you start with just the bottom row unlocked. However, as you play, you can unlock further rows and even trigger win multipliers.

Arrow Symbols

Aside from the Duds and numerical values, it’s possible that Arrow symbols can land on the reels. These unlock the next row above and reward a respin of all unlocked rows.

Multiplier Meters

The most significant difference between DJ Cat and DJ Fox is that this title has individual win multipliers instead of a global multiplier for the reels. The higher the row, the larger the potential multipliers.

  • Row 1: 1x, 2x, 3x, and 5x
  • Row 2: 1x, 3x, 5x, and 10x
  • Row 3: 1x, 5x, 10x, and 15x
  • Row 4: 1x, 10x, 15x, and 20x
  • Row 5: 1x, 20x, 50x, and 100x

At the start of a spin, those multipliers start at 1x, but VIP and Double VIP symbols can increase those values whenever they land. A VIP symbol on a row increases that row’s multiplier by one position. As you might have guessed, a Double VIP moves the meter up two positions. Each time either of those symbols lands, all Dud positions on all rows receive a respin.

All the features take place throughout the base game, so there isn’t a main bonus game as such. There is a Push Up feature, however, that allows you to pay more per spin to start with additional rows unlocked.

For an increased spin bet, you can choose to unlock between 2 and 4 of the rows above the default single unlocked row. The more you unlock, the more you’ll have to play, and the more you can potentially win.

Dj Cat Slot Review Final Thoughts

Innovative slot developers such as Push Gaming will always split opinions, especially if their slots drift too far from what typical slot games are. Some will love the new mechanics, while others will find them confusing. I understand both opinions, although fall more on the side of enjoying something new. That said, I didn’t feel like DJ Cat offered anything we didn't already see in DJ Fox, so for me, this is a bit of disappointment despite offering up plenty of fun.
