DJ Psycho (Nolimit City) Slot Demo & Review

We’ve all been there on a night out, begging the DJ to put our favourite song on, but chances are the person in charge of the tunes was a bit more laid back, unlike the dudes behind the decks on Nolimit City’s DJ Psycho slot. Yes, I’m sure the game won’t feature anything controversial at all, well, maybe just the odd narcotic or two. As for the stats, we’ve got ourselves a 4 reel game running on the cluster pays engine, complete with an RTP of 96.05% and a maximum win of 25,420x bet.

Whenever I open up a Nolimit slot menu, the features section always reminds me of those joke snakes that you get in a can. You know, the ones where you flip the lid off, and they just fly everywhere. The same can be said for DJ Psycho, which comes with six special symbols, each activating its own unique modifier, which we’ll come to later in the review. As for the free spins round, there are two versions of this on offer, and if you’re unable to utilise the bonus buy option in your jurisdiction, you’ll need to trigger them organically by filling up the beat bar. Easy Peasy, right?

Could we be set for another banging cluster pays slot from Nolimit? One thing is for sure; you’ll want to get your headphones plugged in for this one, as the sound guy at NLC is definitely doing bits on this game. Try it out in our DJ Psycho demo slot; it’s ready for you to play below.

Dj Psycho Paytable
DJ Psycho paytable

Nolimit has turned its hand to several themes and slot genres over the years, and in DJ Psycho, we see them mix two of these they have previously tried before. Of course, we had The Rave, where the NLC sound guy stole the show with more outstanding audio work, and then there was The Border, NLC’s first attempt at a cluster pays slot, which has actually proven to be very popular here on our demo platform by continuing to rack up the plays each month. So, just how will they fare this time around? Let’s get the game loaded, crank up the volume and find out, shall we?

The paytable features ten square symbols in total. First, we have the premium pays, with the highest value symbol being the pink crown and valued at a random 1,271x bet for clusters of 40 or more. Next is the orange acid smiley worth 750x, followed by the green cannabis at 650x, the purple skull at 550x, and finally, the blue alien paying 500x for winning clusters of 40 or more. The low pays include no pictures inside them and are dulled-out versions of their premium paying counterparts. So again, we have pink, orange, green, purple and blue square symbols, paying 450x, 400x, 350x, 250x, and 200x, respectively, for combos of 40 or more winning symbols.

Nolimit doesn’t tend to stray too far from their standard betting range across any of their titles, and that is again the case in DJ Psycho, with minimum/maximum limits coming in at €0.20 and €100, respectively. It’s worth noting that if you do play this slot for real money, there could be restrictions on the max you can bet, as several casinos now restrict the limit you can stake certain games at. Generally, this applies to slots from providers that do pay their max wins out. This is kind of understandable in a way, as I’m sure paying a maxi out on a €100 bet could be curtains for some of the smaller concerns.

Base Game & Modifiers

Dj Psycho Base Game
DJ Psycho base game

The gameplay begins on a cool-looking mixer with a reel set 4×4 in play with 16 positions for symbols to land in on each spin. You’ll need just 3 symbols to match within the playfield for a win to be awarded with those winning symbols then being replaced with new ones for further chances to win. As I mentioned in the intro, six special symbols can appear, each with its own special modifier, so let’s look at what these are.

Crossed Symbols

Whenever a symbol gets transformed by one of the below-listed features, the symbol gets a second value.

  • On first transformation, any medium paying symbol turns into an additional media paying symbol.
  • On first transformation, any low paying symbol turns into an additional low paying symbol.
  • If the newly formed symbol gets transformed again, it becomes wild.

Xknob

xKnob symbol turns into a wild and adds a value of minimum +1 to the overall multiplier affecting all wins. The achieved value is sticky in the Psycho Spins.

Break

Break symbol gives itself and neighbouring symbols (left, right, below and above) an additional selected symbol value.

Medium paying symbols turn into an additional medium paying symbol, called Crossed symbols. Low paying symbols turn into an additional low paying symbol called Crossed Symbols.

Bite

Bite symbol gives itself and neighbouring symbols an additional selected symbol value.

Medium paying symbols turn into an additional medium paying symbol, called Crossed symbols. Low paying symbols turn into an additional low paying symbol called Crossed Symbols.

Drop

The Drop symbol only activates if there are 2 pieces of this symbol on the reel area. If one Drop symbol is present, it is regarded as a dead symbol. In case 2 Drop symbols land, the shortest path between them is selected, and all symbols in this path transform into a second symbol.

Xbpm

xBPM symbol turns into a wild when landing and will multiply the symbol size by 2 for each symbol on that row only.

Beat Bar

The Beat Bar tracks the progress of multipliers on all coloured symbols. Each time a coloured symbol connects, +1 is added to that specific colour.

The Beat Bar will reset for every new game round in the base game. Each spin,1 to 5 colours are chosen as freespins triggers. Furthermore, the Beat Bar becomes sticking during reel avalanches, Geez Spins and Psycho Spins until a new bet is made.

Dj Psycho Slot Bonus Features

Dj Psycho Free Spins Feature
DJ PSycho free spins feature

There are two free spin features that can be triggered in DJ Psycho. These are the Geez Spins and the ultimate thrill, the Pyscho Spins. Check them out below.

Geez Spins

In the base game, if a chosen colour or colours reach a 3x multiplier, the Geez Spins bonus will be triggered, and 5 free spins will be awarded. That specific colour or colours need to have free spins activated on the Beat Bar for the bonus to be triggered. Reaching a3x multiplier for any other coloured symbol during this bonus round will award players 2 extra spins.

Psycho Spins

Reaching a 5x multiplier for all coloured symbols in the Geez Spins bonus will trigger the Psycho Spins. Alternatively, if a 5x multiplier is achieved for all colours through the base game, 17 free spins are granted in Psycho Spins.

During this bonus round, the general multiplier is sticky, and any hit will guarantee a future in the next avalanche.

Boosted Bet

For an extra cost of 235% on top of the original stake, players are 3 times more likely to hit the Geez Spins and 7 times are likely to trigger the Psycho Spins.

Bonus Buy

If you can access the bonus buy menu, you can choose from the following options.

  • 7 Geez Spins: Costs 50x bet.
  • 15 Psycho Spins: Costs 420x bet.

Pros

  • Outstanding work on the audio once again.
  • A cheaper bonus buy option at just 50x bet.

Cons

  • It can initially be confusing until you work out what's going on with the modifiers.
  • The lower end of the RTP range offered to casinos is pretty grim.

Final Thoughts

You sure can't fault the design and graphics of this slot as they are exceptional, and the sound guy at Nolimit City is a special talent that should be wrapped in cotton wool and handled with care at all times. However, other than the great music, I just couldn't connect with this game and, like most, I would imagine, was a bit baffled as to what was going on for an extended period of time.I might come back and reflect on this score after playing it a little more in the week, but as it stands for me, it's a rare miss from Nolimit City, but perhaps you'll have a different take on it. Give it a blast and find out.
