Let’s start with the vital statistics – This is a 20-pay line machine that offers a 96% RTP in regular play, increasing slightly to 96.13% if the bonus buy facility is used. Wins are limited to a maximum of 5,000x your bet, which is not terrible, but I would still like to see a slightly larger number.
There’s a handful of features to talk about, starting with the super wild symbols that appear on reels two, three, and four. What makes these wilds so super? Why, they create additional sticky wilds in alternative positions, of course! The main bonus round is a free spins feature that can award up to 30 free spins depending on the number of triggering scatter symbols.

Dragon Hero Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
When I first saw the title of this game, my mind played a little trick on me, and I started thinking about the classic Dragon Warrior video games on the NES. Of course, Dragon Hero does not have anything to do with Dragon Warrior, but this is not even the first time this has happened! Other dragon-themed games such as Dragon’s Cache, Dragon Fire, and Dragon Tiger all had a similar nostalgia-provoking effect on me. One of these days, I should probably get around to grabbing one of those NES classic consoles to satisfy that itch!
Let’s get back on topic now, starting with the paytable! The highest-paying regular symbol is one of those oriental-looking gold bowls (I’ve tried to find a proper name for these without success, unfortunately) and has a return of 40x your bet for a full payline of five-of-a-kind. Next, a golden frog will pay you 25x your bet for all five symbols, whilst the golden fish drops to 15x for a complete payline. There are two more medium-paying symbols represented by a scroll and a triple-coin necklace with payouts of 7.5x and 5x your bet, respectively. At the lower end of the table, we have five royal symbols, which pay between 1.25x and 2.5x your bet for five of a kind.
Most of Pragmatic Play’s recent games all share an identical wagering setup, including Dragon Hero, meaning that you can bet from a minimum of €0.20 per spin up to a maximum of €100.00.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game of Dragon Hero utilises an enlarged 5×4 playfield. This does feel like a large area considering that there are only 20 fixed paylines available, and you will probably end up hitting quite a few combinations that look as if they should return a win yet do not. This isn’t a huge problem, but it might be frustrating for some players.
Super Wild Symbols
Regular wild symbols appear on all five reels, but the enhanced super wilds can only land on reels two, three, and four. Each time a super wild hits, it will automatically cause up to three standard wild symbols to be held. At the beginning of the next spin, the held wilds will be sent to new random positions. Up to three super wilds can be active at any time, potentially creating up to nine wild symbols on the following spin.
Dragon Hero Slot Bonus Features
Hitting three or more scatter symbols will trigger the main free spins feature. Before the bonus round begins, several bonus wheels will be shown to determine the number of free spins awarded.
Six bonus wheels are awarded for a three-scatter trigger, while eight or ten wheels will be granted for four or five scatters, respectively. Each wheel can award one, two, or three spins, so you can receive anywhere from 6 to 30 free spins.
Free Spins
The free spins feature begins just like the base game, but as soon as the super wild symbols start to land, the bonus can become much more exciting. Each time a scatter lands on the reels, it will charge up all super wilds that are currently visible by 50%; after a super wild reaches 100%, it will gain the ability to create one more wild symbol.
If you have a fortunate bonus round, you can end up with super wild symbols that create five, six, or even more new wild symbols every time they land. The feature cannot be re-triggered, so keep your fingers crossed that the bonus wheels initially award you plenty of free spins!
My results from this feature during testing were somewhat mixed; I did have a couple of great results, suggesting that this is a very volatile bonus round.
Bonus Buy
If permitted within your jurisdiction, you can bypass the base game and go directly to the free spins feature for a cost of 100x the normal price per spin. The number of triggering scatters is determined randomly each time you purchase the feature.
Dragon Hero Slot Review Final Thoughts
The game feels somewhat generic to me, and very little about it stands out. Considering this is a Pragmatic Play release, it isn’t all that impressive. Whilst it certainly isn’t terrible, I can’t imagine many people remembering much about this game in 12 months time.
