Cooler, for sure, but all that queueing makes for a whole lot more effort than I’m comfortable with. Surely there’s a better alternative. ELK Studios has an idea for us – it’s called “DROPZ”. This is a 729 pay way game with the potential to expand up to 262,144 pay ways under certain circumstances – a heft number of pay ways to go with a chunky maximum payout of 25,000x your bet. However, the 94% RTP is way below average and is slightly disappointing for such a prestigious development house.
The game features several different levels with varying playfield layouts, a “Free Dropz” bonus game, and a whole host of base game modifiers to enhance your chances of hitting big outside of the main features – keep an eye out for the Chocolate symbols, in particular, as these can crack to reveal hidden special symbols and even features! One especially unique feature is a “symbol pair” mechanic, which adds multipliers to your winnings each time specific pairs of symbols land adjacent to one another. It takes a little time to learn which symbols form part of these pairings, but it isn’t even really necessary to remember them if you don’t want to – you can enjoy a surprise multiplier when they do appear, instead!

Dropz Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Regular readers here at Demoslot will be more than familiar with my disdain for unimaginative fruit-themed slots, and while Dropz is a fruit-themed slot in many respects, it certainly isn’t an unimaginative one! The layout of the game is completely original (perhaps except for a handful of other ELK Studios titles), and there are a variety of unique symbols mixed in with an eclectic selection of fruits on the reels, too; there are no typical plums, cherries, or watermelon symbols filling up the screen this time around! I guess I would call this a “fruit and nut” themed slot!
How about the paytable, then? Top of the list, we have the lucky seven, with a payout of 50x your bet for a full pay line of six-of-a-kind, but that truly is an outlier here – the next symbol down is the strawberry and pays just 5x the bet for all six of those, after which the apple is worth just 2x, the grapes just 1x, and the lemon… 0.5x. Ouch. Let’s not even bother touching on those lower-paying symbols, eh…! There’s no relief from the wilds or scatters either, as neither of these has any payouts attached to them whatsoever.
The regular betting range begins at €0.20 per spin and maxes out at €100.00 for each round, but there is also an “X-iter” bet, which doubles the cost of each spin in return for more than double the odds of hitting a bonus round.
Base Game & Modifiers
Base gameplay takes place on a 6×6 playfield, but every spin will add several chocolate blocks to the reels, preventing you from scoring as many wins as you otherwise might. The game does not inform you of the currently activated number of payways once these chocolate blocks have fallen, but I assume that you must get a minimum of 729 per spin as that is what is mentioned on the paytable. Clear all the chocolate blocks, and you reach a total of 262,144 payways. How do you do this? Let’s find out!
Avalanches
Winning and paired symbols will immediately explode, allowing new symbols to fall into place from the top of the screen. This procedure will repeat indefinitely as long as further symbols explode.
Chocolate
The chocolate blocks that surround the reels and block other winning combinations can be destroyed by exploding adjacent symbols. Such explosions will crack the chocolate, revealing further hidden symbols, or perhaps even scatter or bonus symbols!
Special Symbols
There are four bonus symbols which will help you greatly to score bigger wins:
- Level Up Symbol – This symbol activates more rows or columns, up to a maximum of a humongous 6×8 playfield!
- Dropz Symbol – Awards two free additional “Dropz” (IE, Spins)
- Wild Symbols – Substitute for all other regular paying symbols
- Locked Wilds – These special wild symbols will remain sticky for the next three paid spins
Dropz Slot Free Spins Feature
The main bonus game is scored whenever three bonus symbols land on a single spin. The bonus game is played on the maximum level three sized playfield.
During this mode, your current win multiplier will be transferred over from the base game and remain static until your free spins end. The bonus begins with five free spins, and no additional chocolate symbols will drop in this mode. Sadly, any chocolate symbols present when the feature was triggered WILL be transferred over to your feature reels!
All of the special symbols from the base game are also available here, but I did hope there would be a bit more to this feature than there is; if you have the option to use the x-iter facility, then you can purchase yourself an upgraded free spins feature, but for everybody else, the default bonus is a bit of a damp squib for me.
X-iter Bonus Buy Feature
The X-iter facility has five options, as follows:
- 2x Bet – More than double the odds to win a full bonus round
- 5x Bet – Seven bonus symbols will be dropped onto the reel set. However, many of these can be hidden by chocolate blocks. If you can unveil all seven bonus symbols, this can be a real bargain, but don’t get your hopes up!
- 25x Bet – Three sticky wilds will be added to the reels on the next paid spin. This can be fantastic if you get a lot of avalanches. However, you can also end up with three dead spins making this option a total waste of money.
On the bright side, the three options listed above are available in all jurisdictions, so UK players can at least enjoy a little of the fun. The following two options, however, are not UKGC-compliant:
- 100x Bet – Buy yourself a regular bonus round – I’d give this one a miss if I were you, and play for it organically. If you want to buy a feature, you really need to splash out on the super bonus.
- 500x Bet – This super-pricey option offers you the chance to play on a maximum-sized playfield with no chocolate blockers to spoil your party. Your returns are likely to be huge, although they could obviously fall short of the price of entry. I did hit over 2,000x my bet on one occasion, but for a cost of 500x a go, I think that is pretty reasonable myself!
Dropz Slot Review Final Thoughts
Dropz is a fun game, but it’s flawed in far too many ways for me to give it a full recommendation. The regular bonus round is seemingly gimped, perhaps to persuade players to go for the super bonus – but what about all of those players who aren’t allowed to purchase a super bonus? ELK’s past few games have all been winners, so it’s a shame to see them ruin a fantastic run with this game.,
