Game Overview
For the second time this week, I have a mining slot to review; yeah, that just shows the amazing creativity on display in the modern online slot design world right now. The fact that today’s review is a collaboration between two slot developers who, between them, couldn’t come up with something more original makes it quite a bit worse. Nevertheless, Dynamite Diggin Doug is a new collaboration between Reel Kingdom and Pragmatic Play that has resulted in a 5×3 slot with 10 fixed paylines, a max win of 3,000x the stake, and a 96.51% RTP.
I was fully expecting a horizontal reel above the main reel configuration, as you see on many other mining slots when I loaded the game up, but there isn’t one, so that’s something, at least. What you do get is a prize ladder to the left of the reels that pays out cash prizes based on the number of dynamite symbols that land on a spin. Those prizes range from 0.5x your stake up to 100x and could trigger the free spins bonus at an enhanced level. In terms of the base game, that’s all you get aside from a wild symbol that substitutes for all regular icons. As for the main bonus game, it is a Hold & Win type game that gives you 3 re-spins that reset each time a new cash prize lands on the reels. You’ll receive those prizes whenever they fall off the reels following new symbols landing. A dynamite wick to the right of the grid also burns down, and once the dynamite explodes, a win multiplier increases.
Sometimes, it’s easier to see what a slot offers by playing it yourself – fortunately, we give you that option via the Dynamite Diggin Doug slot demo below.
Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
You won’t need to grab a shovel and pickaxe to dig around for other mining slots to play, as these are commonplace in casino lobbies in iGaming markets worldwide and, indeed, free play slots sites like ours. I reviewed one just the other day, Max Win Gaming’s Glow Dig, which, judging by my early impressions, edges out this one in terms of features, playability, and aesthetics. It’s early days, though, so there’s still a chance Dynamite Diggin Doug could prove me wrong; if it doesn’t, make sure you check this one out as a decent mining slot alternative.
We’re heading over to the Dynamite Diggin Doug paytable next, and I can tell you there are ten regular symbols, with the best-paying being the Mining Cart full of gold, which returns 200x the stake for a five of a kind win. The same sized combo of the Pickaxe rewards 100x, while the Lantern, Shovel, and Lamp round out the premium symbols, returning 40x, 20x, and 20x, respectively. As always, we end the pays section with the lower value symbols where the Ace, King, and Queen are worth up to 10x the stake, while the Jack and Ten return up to 4x.
Regardless of the theme, you have to give Reel Kingdom and Pragmatic credit for the number of possible staking options you can choose from on Dynamite Diggin Doug. These begin from a very low roller friendly €0.10 a spin and max out at a huge €375.
Base Game & Modifiers
Dynamite Diggin Doug is one of the more casual/simple slots to come off the Pragmatic Play production line in recent months, so I’d advise you not to expect much in terms of features. The reels are delivered in a 5×3 format, with 10 paylines for you to form your winning combinations. Whenever three or more symbols of the same type line up across a winway on adjacent reels beginning from the first reel, you’ll land a payout.
Dynamite Diggin Prize Ladder
To the left of the reels, you’ll notice a prize ladder containing payouts as a multiplier of your stake ranging from 0.5x up to 100x. The number on the prize is how many dynamite symbols you’ll need to land on the reels to land that prize. You’ll trigger the bonus game if you land 8, 9, or 10 Dynamite symbols.
Plunger Symbol
Triggered randomly during the base game, the Plunger symbol will give you one of the rewards from the prize ladder. It’s even possible to trigger the bronze, Silver, or Gold levels of the bonus game.
Ant Bet
For 50% on top of your current spin bet, the Ante bet feature lets you spin with an increased chance of triggering the free spins bonus.
Dynamite Diggin Doug Slot Bonus Features
Dynamite Diggin Doug boasts a hold & win bonus variant that triggers once three or more scatter symbols land anywhere in view or if you trigger the feature from the Bronze, Silver, or Gold level via the prize ladder.
Dynamite Bonus Game
If you’ve played slots with a hold & win bonus before, you’ll know what to expect here. You receive 3 spins of the reels, which can contain blank symbols or the following money symbols with cash values of a multiplier of your stake:
- Cash Prizes: Worth 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 6x, 8x, or 10x the stake.
- Bronze Money Symbols: Worth 25x, 30x, 35x, 40x, 45x, or 50x the stake.
- Silver Money Symbols: Worth 75x, 80x, 85x, 90x, 95x, 100x, 105x, 110x, 115x, 120x, or 125x the stake.
- Gold Money Symbols: Worth 150x, 160x, 170x, 180x, 190x, 200x, 210x, 220x, 230x, 240x, or 250x the stake.
Each time a prize symbol lands in a vacant position, the spins reset back to 3. The reels also move down one position whenever a new cash prize lands, and any that fall off the bottom of the reels are collected in your total win for the bonus. Doug then throws those values back onto the reels in new positions or on top of other prizes. The thrown-back symbols can sometimes have a 2x, 3x, or 4x multiplier added to their value.
Not only that, but each new symbol will burn down the fuze that is located to the right of the reels. Once it burns down, you’ll unlock the next tier, whether that’s the Bronze, Silver, or Gold, and now you can land the money symbols of that level.
However, you can only unlock one level above, so where you start is important. If you triggered the bonus via three scatter symbols, you’ll begin with the prospecting level and can only unlock the Bronze tier above. Starting from the Bronze, Silver, or Gold levels is only possible via the prize ladder.
Bonus Buy
Those who prefer higher-risk slot gameplay can buy the free spins bonus for 100x the stake via the buy bonus feature to the right of the reels.
Pros
- The bonus game is what makes this slot barely enjoyable.
- Huge choice of stakes.
Cons
- Just what we needed, right? Another Mining-themed slot.
Dynamite Diggin Doug Slot Review Final Thoughts
Dynamite Diggin Doug comes across as a lazy slot to me; everything from the theme, mechanics, and bonus feature lacks imagination. It’s not terrible; it’s just nothing we haven't seen before, which will hardly have people rushing to play it.
